TABLE TENNIS NOTES.
1.- HISTORY (WHO, WHERE, HOW)
Table tennis, also called (trademark) Ping-Pong, ball game similar in principle to lawn tennis
and played on a flat table divided into two equal courts by a net fixed across its width at the
middle.
The game was invented in England in the early days of the 20th century and was originally
called Ping-Pong, a trade name. The name table tennis was adopted in 1921–22 when the old
Ping-Pong Association formed in 1902 was revived.
it was Englishman David Foster who invented table tennis.
2.- EQUIPMENT.
There are four basic pieces of equipment that include the ball, racket or paddle, table, and
net.
        Ball.
        Rubber, Racket, or Paddle.
        Table Tennis Table.
        Net and Post.
3.- THE GAME: SINGLES, DOUBLES, HOW CAN BE PLAYED?
SINGLES:
A player takes two serves before the ball switches to the opponent to serve, except during
periods of extra play where it changes each time. The first person to serve at the start of the
game can be determined in many different ways, we’ll leave that up to you to decide! Service
can be diagonal or in a straight line in singles.
DOUBLES:
Service must be diagonal, from the right half court (marked by a white line) to the opponent’s
right half court.
Service change over in Doubles is as follows:
At the start of a game, the serving team will decide which player will serve first. The first player
to serve is A1 and;
A1 serves to B1 (2 services)
B1 then serves to A2 (2 services)
A2 then serves to B2 (2 services)
B2 serves to A1 2 services)
Repeat
At the end of game 1 and the start of game 2, team B will take the first serve; B1 must serve to
A1. A1 then serves to B2 and so on.
4.-THE OBJECT OF THE GAME (SCORE)
The object is to hit the ball so that it goes over the net and bounces on the opponent’s half of
the table in such a way that the opponent cannot reach it or return it correctly. The lightweight
hollow ball is propelled back and forth across the net by small rackets (bats, or paddles) held
by the players.
A game is won by being the first player to win 11 points, and be at least 2 points ahead of his
or her opponent. If both players have won 10 points, then the first player to get a 2 point lead
wins the game. A match is the best of 5 games.
5.-SERVICE RULES.-
The ball must first bounce on your side and then in your opponents. Your opponent must allow
the ball to hit their side of the table before trying to return this.
The ball must pass cleanly over the net – if it ‘clips’ the net and goes over, it is a ‘let’ and the
serve is retaken. If it hits the net and doesn’t go over, the point goes to the other player/team.
There are no second serves.
Service in doubles must be diagonal, from the right half court to the opponent's right half
court. At the start of game 2, team B will take the first serve; B1 must serve to A1. A1 then
serves to B2 and so on. In doubles, you should alternate hitting the ball with your partner.
6.- BASIC RULES.
1. Games are played to 11 points.
2. Alternate serves every two points
3. Toss the ball straight up when serving
4. The serve can land anywhere in singles
5. Doubles serves must go right court to right court
6. A serve that touches the net on the way over is a “let”
7. Alternate hitting in a doubles rally
8. Volleys are not allowed
9. If your hit bounces back over the net by itself it is your point.
10.Touching the ball with your paddle hand is allowed
11. You may not touch the table with your non-paddle hand

10.- BUTTERFLY, WHAT´S IN A NAME?
Hikosuke Tamasu was the creator of this Brand. Hikosuke began to devote himself to table
tennis, a sport for which there were few competitors at the time. Later, as he further honed
his skills, he won prizes in all events at the All Japan Table Tennis Championships.
His passion for table tennis did not stop even after his career as a player had ended, therefore
in 1950 he established Tamasu Co. Ltd. in order to create table tennis equipment. His
pioneering activities went beyond the bounds of being a simple equipment manufacturer.
“Players are flowers in the table tennis world, and they are the very enchantment of table
tennis; we would like to be butterflies flying around the flowers providing them the essential
needs in the table tennis world”
