Introduction to wireless communication and mobile
computing
Wireless communication involves the transmission of information
over a distance without the help of wires, cables or any other forms
of electrical conductors.
Wireless communication is a broad term that incorporates all
procedures and forms of connecting and communicating between
two or more devices using a wireless signal through wireless
communication technologies and devices.
Wireless communication is the transfer of information between
two or more points without the use of an electrical conductor,
optical fiber or other continuous guided medium for the

Wireless is a term used to define telecommunication and data
transmission without wires.

Wireless Communication is a method of transmitting information

Generally, in a communication system, information is transmitted
from transmitter to receiver that are placed over a limited distance.

Wireless Communication, the transmitter and receiver can be placed
anywhere between few meters (like a T.V. Remote Control) to few
thousand kilometers (Satellite Communication).
Communication Systems can be Wired or Wireless and the medium used
for communication can be Guided or Unguided.
In Wired Communication, the medium is a physical path like Co-axial
Cables, Twisted Pair Cables and Optical Fiber Links etc. which guides the
signal to propagate from one point to other.
Such type of medium is called Guided Medium. On the other hand,
Wireless Communication doesn’t require any physical medium but
propagates the signal through space. Since, space only allows for signal
transmission without any guidance, the medium used in Wireless
Communication is called Unguided Medium.

Mobile Computing
Mobile simple describes a computing device that is not restricted to
a desktop.
Mobile device may be a PDA a “smart” cell phone, a laptop
computer, or any one numerous other devices that allow the user to
complete computing task without being connected to a any
network.
Mobile computing refers to the set of IT technologies, products,
services and operational strategies and procedures that enable end
users to access computation, information and related resources and

Mobile Computing refers a technology that allows transmission
of data, voice and video via a computer or any other wireless
enabled device.
It is free from having a connection with a fixed physical link. It
facilitates the users to move from one physical location to another
during communication.

physically. Mobile computing technology provides a vast
coverage diameter for communication.

Interference:- wireless technology is susceptible to interference

includes: cordless phones, microwaves, televisions and other
wireless LAN implementations.
Network and Data Security:- Wireless LAN technology is designed
to provide access to the data being transmitted, not security of the
data. Additionally, it can provide an unprotected entrance into the
wired network.
Technology:- technology continues to evolve. Wireless LAN
technology does not currently provide the speed or reliability of
wired LANs.
