MATERIALS AND TOOLS
1. Yarn
 Alize Cotton Gold (100g/330m, 55% cotton/45% acrylic) of light green (193), red (56), white (55), yellow
(216) colors
 Yarn Art Jeans (50g/160m, 55% cotton/45% acrylic) of olive (82) color
 Some yarn of similar composition and yardage of brown color for design of the face, brown color for the
base of the garland and any seven colors at your discretion for the garland bulbs

2. Stuffing (hollofayber)
3. The Hook Clover No 1.75 (1.75 mm)
4. Wire d=2,5
5. Adhesive plaster for wire insulation
6. Black halfbeads for the eyes d=14 mm
7. Glue
8. Plastic (I use a soft cutting board)
9. A thick needle for sewing of the details
10. Scissors

ABBREVIATIONS
MR – magic ring
ch – chain
sl st - slip stitch
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (crochet two sc in 1 stitch)
dec – decrease (crochet two sc together)

Crochet in a spiral without sl st. At the beginning of the row use a marker or thread of different color,
which help mark the first loop of each new row.
The finished toy is 16,5 cm = 6,3”.

Crochet with the red thread.

Take plastic (I use a soft cutting board) and circle the crocheted detail on it, cut out (photo 1) and put it aside for
now, continue crocheting.

Cut the thread, fasten off. Make one more detail in the same way. Don't cut the thread in the end of crocheting
(photo 2). Attach two crocheted details to each other face to the inside so that the second detail is located at the bot-
tom. Connect them crocheting 1 row of 66 sc. Insert the hook in the back loops of the lower detail and all loops of
the upper detail (photo 3). Don't forget to insert the plastic circle (photo 4).This will be the 12th row (photo 5, 6).
Continue to crochet the toy, stuff tightly in the course of crocheting.

DESIGN OF THE FACE
Begin with the tightening for the eyes. To do this mark the points 1 and 2 between the 63rd and 64th rows, the space
between them is 8 sc and the points 3 and 4 between the 61st and 62nd rows directly under the points 1 and 2 as it is
shown at the photo 9.
Now insert a needle in the head, fasten off a thread and take it out in the point 1, then insert in the head in the point
3 and take out in the point 2, tighten a thread. Again insert a needle in the head in the point 4 and take it out in the
point 1, tighten a thread. Repeat this action 2-3 times, fasten off, cut a thread and hide inside the head (photo 10).
How to make the tightening, look on example at the link https://youtu.be/MN6aGh2xDrg. Glue the eyes (photo 11).

Crochet the eyelids with the light green thread (2 details). Make chain 5 ch and crochet 4 sc from the 2nd loop from
the hook. Cut the thread, leaving a long end for sewing.
Sew the eyelids as it’s shown at the video https://youtu.be/rQCkGApakug. First decorate the eyes with yellow
thread (I use the whole thread Alize Cotton Gold №216).
Embroider the nose with the brown thread (I use Alize Cotton Gold, 2 threads of 4). Place it between the 59th and
60th rows at the center between the eyes, nose width is 4-5 sc. With the same thread (1 thread of 4) embroider freck-
les. How to do it, look on example at the link https://youtu.be/wgCSbhsOgT4.
Crochet the brows with the olive thread (2 details). Make chain 8 ch and crochet 7 sc from the 2nd loop from the
hook. Cut the thread, leaving a long end. Sew the brows.
Make the whiskers. Turn the toy upside down and insert the hook on the side between the 60th and 59th rows and
take out between the 59th and 58th rows, grasping the olive thread and make chain 10 ch. Insert the hook between
the 59th and 58th rows and take out between the 58th and 57th rows, crochet sl st. Repeat 6 more times. Cut the

Make the forelock with the olive thread. Make chain 6 ch and crochet 5 sl st from the 2nd loop from the hook, Make
chain 8ch and crochet 7 sl st from the 2nd loop from the hook, again make chain 6 ch and crochet 5 sl st from the 2nd
loop from the hook. Cut the thread, leaving a long end for sewing. Sew the forelock to the Grinch’s top.

DOOR
Crochet in back-and-forth rows with the yellow thread with 1 ch at the beginning of each row. Make chain 11ch.
1 rnd: 10 sc 5 rnd: dec, 10 sc (11)
2 rnd: 9 sc, inc (11) 6 rnd: 9 sc, dec (10)
3 rnd: inc, 10 sc (12) 7 rnd: 10 sc
4 rnd: 12 sc
Turn crocheting and make 10 sc 10 sc, further crochet 1 sc, (inc, 1 sc)*3 at the top of the door, further make 10 sc
on the second side of the door and 7 sc at the bottom. Cut the thread, fasten off, hide the end (photo 12). Attach the
red thread to the 1st side fr lp as it’s shown at the photo 13 and crochet 2 «back-and-forth» rows of 30 sc with 1 ch
at the beginning. Turn crocheting again and make 1 more row of 30 sc, grasping yellow bk lp (photo 14). Cut the
thread, fasten off, hide the end. Embroider the white stripe on the door, as it’s shown at the photo 15 (I use the
whole thread Alize Cotton Gold №55). Glue or sew the dorr to the mug (I glue).

HANDLE
Crochet with the red thread. Make chain 5 ch and crochet from the 2nd loop from the hook.
1 rnd: 3 sc, 2 sc in the last loop of the chain, further crochet on the other side of the chain 3 sc (8)
2-36 rnd: 8 sc (35 rows)
Crochet required amount of sc, so that the beginning of row is on the side (I have 1 additional sc).
Take a piece of wire with a diameter of 2.5 mm as long as 2 crocheted handles. Bend the piece so that the cut points
are inside (photo 16), insulate the wire with adhesive plaster (photo 17). Place the frame inside the crocheted han-
dle. Fold the detail in half and connect the edges by 4 sc. Cut the thread, leaving a long end for sewing. Sew the
handle to the mug as it’s shown at the photo 18, 19, 20.

GARLAND
Crochet 7 colorful light bulbs:
1 rnd: 6 sc in MR
2 rnd: 6 inc (12)
3-4 rnd: 12 sc (2 rows)
5 rnd: 6 dec (6)
Stuff the detail. Cut the thread, tighten the opening, hide the end in the detail (photo 21).
Make chain 5 ch with the black thread, insert the hook in any loop of the last row of a bulb, as it’s shown at the
photo 22 and crochet 1 ch. Further crochet 10 ch and attach the 2nd bulb in the same way. Repeat 5 times more. Af-
ter the last light bulb has been attached, crochet 5 ch more, cut the thread, leave a long end for sewing (photo 23).
Sew the garland to the mug.

SCARF
Make chain 5 ch and crochet in back-and-forth rows of 4 sc with 1 ch at the beginning of each row, alternating
white and red colors.

Little Grinch is ready!
