SCRIPT:
NARRATOR 1: Once upon a time on an old farm, a Mother Duck was
sitting on her eggs.
MOTHER DUCK: My eggs are hatching! I have… 1,2,3 ducklings!
NARRATOR 2: But something was not right.
MOTHER DUCK: That egg didn't hatch, and it is bigger than the rest. I’ll
sit a while longer.
NARRATOR 1: When the last egg finally hatched, it was a strange looking
duckling with grey feathers.
MOTHER DUCK: I can’t understand how this ugly duckling can be one of
mine!
NARRATOR 2: As the days went by, the poor ugly duckling became more
and more unhappy.
NARRATOR 1: His brothers didn’t want to play with him.
THREE BROTHERS/SISTERS: We don't want to play with you. You are so
ugly!
NARRATOR 2: All the other animals laughed at him.
(To the tune of Merry Old Land of Oz)
Ha-ha-ha! He-he-he and a couple of tra-la-las,
This bird, he doesn’t look like us,
We think he’s very odd.
Ha-ha-ha! He-he-he and a couple of tra-la-las,
This bird, he doesn’t look like us,
We think he’s very odd.
His feathers are grey, from his tail to his wing,
He waddles all wrong, and that’s why we all sing
UGLY DUCKLING!
Ha-ha-ha! He-he-he and a couple of tra-la-las,
This bird, he doesn’t look like us,
We think he’s very odd.
UGLY DUCKLING: Do you know of any ducklings with grey feathers like
mine?
BIRDS: We don’t know anyone like you.
NARRATOR 1: He went to another pond, and asked a pair of large
geese.
UGLY DUCKLING: Do you know of any ducklings with grey feathers like
mine?
GEESE: We don’t know anyone like you. Go away!
UGLY DUCKLING: If nobody wants me, I’ll hide here forever.
NARRATOR 2: Winter came and the water froze. The poor duckling left
home to seek food in the snow.
NARRATOR 1: He dropped exhausted to the ground, but a kind farmer
found him.
FARMER: I’ll take him home to my children. They’ll look after him.
NARRATOR 2: The farmer’s children loved the grey duckling and helped
him to grow strong.
NARRATOR 1: By springtime, he was strong enough to care for himself!
FARMER: I’ll set him free by the pond!
NARRATOR 2: That was when the duckling saw his reflection in the
water.
UGLY DUCKLING: Goodness, how I’ve changed. I hardly recognize
myself!
CHILDREN: Look at that young swan! He’s the finest of them all!
(To the tune of Good Mornin’)
We’re different, all different
That is what makes life fun
I’m different from everyone
We’re different, all different
That is what makes life fun
I’m different from everyone
When I try to be like you I end up feeling sad
I’m really great at being me and that makes me so glad
We’re different, all different
That is what makes life fun
I’m different from everyone
