Bear this in mind:


Our beliefs determine our actions, and our actions determine our results. If you’re not
getting the results you desire, your beliefs may deserve some examination. Your beliefs are the core
of your results. Life and success are both easier and more consistent when your beliefs are
supportive of the things you want out of life
Belief
 Is something that is considered true and correct.
 A person can believe in various things such as cultural, personal faith, morality or values.
Itexpresses viewpoints, but it is not based on facts or other pieces of evidences. A belief is
also an opinion, which is why it cannot serve as the basis for a formal argument.
Example:
1. In my personal view, corona virus makes us separated from others because of social
distancing.
Beliefs are very personal ideas and cannot be rejected because they express an opinion. Also, these
beliefs are not mandatory to change completely with new experiences

CONVICTION
 Is something that an individual is convinced of.
 To be convinced, you need to obtain all the related information. Based on the information that
the conviction is built, a belief changes with time and new experiences, yet, a conviction
remains the same.
Example:
1. In my personal view, it is necessary to follow social distancing to ensure safety for all. 
Conviction is more complex than belief as it becomes a point of view of the world.

How can we express beliefs or convictions?


 Use the basic signal phrases in expressing “beliefs” and “convictions” Basic Signal
Phrases:

I believe... I feel…
In my opinion…

I think… In my personal view…

 Their intentions and purposes would highly rely on the additional specific
information as your source. Belief is an acceptance that the statement is true or

that something exists while conviction is a firmly held and stable, long term belief
based on related information.

Learning Task #1:


Directions: Study the sentences taken from the video clips presented. State
whether each sentence is an example of belief or conviction. If the statement is an
example of belief you need to clap 3 times and if it is a conviction you need to stamp
your feet twice.
