Trouble shooting
6.2 Engine
Faults Possible cause
The engine does not Starter defective or pinion not engaging Fuel tank
start empty
Temperature below starting limit
Fuel filter clogged, in winter due to paraf- fin
separation.
Fuel lines leaking
Battery discharged or not connected
Injection valves or injection pump defec- tive
The engine starts Battery power too low, battery clamps loose or
poorly and works oxidized, causing the starter to turn too slowly
irregularly with poor Especially during winter: the use of too viscous
power engine oil
Fuel supply restricted, in winter fuel sys- tem
clogged due to paraffin separation
Incorrect valve clearance Injection valve defective
Injection lines leaking Turbo charger defective Dry
air filter dirty
Excessive play in the throttle cable

Remedy
Have examined by a specialist Fill and bleed the
tank
Use winter fuel and engine oil acc. to the ambient
temperature.
Change the filter. use winter fuel
Check all line connections for leakages and
tighten the fittings.
Tighten the pole clamps, check the cable
connections
Have examined by a specialist
Have the battery checked, clean the ter- minal
clamps, tighten them and cover them with acid
free grease
Use engine oil suitable for the ambient
temperature
Change the fuel filter. Check the line con- nections
for leaks and tighten the fittings. Use winter fuel in
the cold season.
Adjust the valve clearance Have examined by a
specialist Check the lines for leakages Have
examined by a specialist clean, replace if
necessary
Adjust the throttle cable, change it if nec- essary
Remedy
Drain the oil to the upper dipstick mark clean,
replace if necessary

Have compression rings and pistons ex- amined
by a specialist, adjust the valve clearance
Adjust the valve clearance
Clean the cooling fins
Have examined by a specialist
Top up engine oil to the upper dipstick mark

Top up oil
Shut the engine down immediately, check fittings
on oil lines, lubrication oil filter and oil cooler for
leaks, if necessary tighten the fittings.
