Tina took a vacation to Egypt as a history lover to experience its ancient civilization. She sailed down the Nile River and visited the beautiful Luxor Temple, which was buried under streets for thousands of years until its excavation in 1884. Tina also saw the impressive pyramids, including Khufu's pyramid which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Her trip opened her mind and showed her how history shapes cultures. She believes travel is important for gaining understanding and appreciation of other places and people.

Visiting ‘History-Mystery’ Land

Being a history lover, I went to Egypt on a

vacation. Since Egypt is one of the oldest
civilizations on Earth, it is also known as a
‘history-mystery land’. You are not a true
traveller, if you have not been to Egypt.

You are sure to feel like a pharaoh cruising

on Nile. I sailed next to the picture- perfect
amber desert, stunning granite rocks and
magical emerald islands. The Nile is the
longest river in the world — a long stroke of
a painter’s brush.

Close to the Nile was the beautiful temple of Luxor. How would you feel covered
under a heavy quilt for many years? For thousands of years, this temple was
buried beneath the streets and houses of Luxor! Around 1884, Professor Gaston
Maspero got the permission to excavate this temple.

Then, I saw the pyramids. The masonry work

robbed me of speech. I love to daydream, so
I closed my eyes to visualise the masons. I
imagined their skin burnt by the merciless
Sun while working hard to build the pyramids.

The pyramid of Khufu is one of the Seven

Wonders of the Ancient World. It made my
pulse race with excitement. Whether this
pyramid is a tomb, an astronomical
observatory or something else is a mystery. Its top is flat and not pointed.
Why? Visit this pyramid. Maybe you will solve the mystery.

Egypt is not only an historical place, but
a shopper’s paradise too. I spent almost
a lifetime in Khan el-Khalili bazaar
buying gifts. It was euphoric choosing
from the silver jewellery, clothes,
perfumes, spices, t-shirts and other
souvenirs.

However, more than anything else, my

visit to Egypt gave me a new way of
looking at the world around me. I realised how history helps shape us and form
various cultures. So many people have worked so hard to give us the life we lead
today. Sometimes, we learn from the mistakes that our forefathers have made
and sometimes we use their lives and work as an example to live our life. We
find inspiration from the past and maybe try to continue their creative work or
even create new things on our own.

My visit to Ehypt opened my mind and that is why I believe travelling is so

important. Travel helps us break out of our routine, gets us out of our comfort
zone and burst the bubble we end up living in. We get to know people from
another culture, we discover their stories and gain a better understanding of
the world we live in, which is full of variety. There is a beauty in diversity and
travel helps us appreciate that.

On that note, I come to the end of my blog. Write to me if you need more
information on Egypt. I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on
my blog.
