 Try a quick meditation or prayer to get some perspective
More:
 Go for a walk, even if it’s just to the restroom and back. It can help break the tension
and give you a chance to think things through.
 Take a break to pet the dog, hug a loved one or do something to help someone else.
 Turn on some chill music or an inspirational podcast to help you deal with road rage.
Some more:
 Walk away from the situation for a while, and handle it later once things have
calmed down.
 If it’s not urgent, sleep on it and respond tomorrow. This works especially well for
stressful emails and social media trolls.
 Break down big problems into smaller parts. Take one step at a time, instead of
trying to tackle everything at once
 Work out or do something active. Exercise is a great antidote for stress.

3. We need rest and to be away from work in order to reduce chronic stress

Keeping in mind the importance of your health, your finances, your employability and the
need to maintain a work-life balance; you should work out the goals that you want and go
about to achieve them

Wheel of Life. This is Zig Ziglar's tool

1. Mental
2. Personal
3. Physical
4. Family
5. Career
6. Spiritual
7. Financial

When you have identified the goals that you want for your life, you may find that these
are not very specific and may take a long time for you to reach. If that is so, then you will
have to break your goals into objectives. Objectives are shorter measurable targets that
help you achieve a bigger and longer goal. See these examples showing the difference
between goals and objectives to get a better understanding.

Objectives should be

 Specific - you know exactly what you want to achieve

 Measurable - there is a concrete thing or quantity that you can show when achieved
 Achievable - you can have the ability to carry out the action required and it is
possible to be reached in the given situation and time
 Relevant - it contributes to the achievement of the goal
 Time bound - there is a specific time when it is supposed to be done

Importance
If you have goals that you cannot translate into objectives, it could mean that
 The goal may actually be a short term objective
 The goal is something you wish for but have not really seriously thought of achieving
 You do not know how to achieve the goal
Having objectives is also good because the accomplishment of each objective along the way
will show progress and give you encouragement.

Persistency and Consistency

In the first video of this course, Tom Ziglar mentioned two things that are needed for us to
achieve our goals - persistency and consistency. He said that persistency is taking it up a
notch (putting in greater effort), and consistency is doing it every day.

Being persistent is also to keep on doing the right thing even when it gets difficult and we
feel like giving up. Without persistence there will be no success. We must also be consistent
in doing things the right way every day or all the time. Not doing things with the same level
of quality and effort all the time will also not give us much success.

Monitor and Review

After you have run the plan for a while with persistency and consistency, there is a need to
know whether you are going to achieve your goal successfully. You should monitor all
objectives to see if these are successful.

When an objective is achieved, you should let check on the achievement of the next. When
an objective cannot be achieved, then you have to make a decision as to whether to
 extend the deadline if more time is needed
 change the objective slightly
 substitute with another set of objectives
When all objectives are achieved, review if the goal is successfully achieved. If you are not
satisfied with the outcome, you can look at the plan and do up a new plan.
For goals that are successfully achieved, celebrate your success first and decide what to do
with after that.
 Some goals just need a one-time achievement (e.g., have family holiday in Europe,
understand my job, get a degree) and then can repeated, or substituted with other
new goals.
 Many goals need maintenance and on-going action or your will lose them (e.g., have
good diet and nutrition, have a creative imagination, be strong and flexible). These
you will have to keep doing certain actions till they become part of your routine. You
should review the status of such goals regularly.

Arrange the steps to get a good way to plan and implement your personal goals
 Do the Wheel of Life self assessment
 Identify one or two areas you want to work on
 Write one goal for each area
 Break the goal into relevant objectives to achieve the goal
 Re-arrange the objectives in order of having to achieve first
 Schedule the work for the objectives into your organizer
 Carry out work without procrastinating; with persistency and consistency
 Monitor status of objectives and take necessary action to get achievement
 Celebrate goal achievement and decide on next steps with the goal achieved or new
goals
