Useless Bolt

Lubos Sabatka, chairman of IDEA StatiCa, discusses how their software can show that many bolts used to connect steel I-profiles to end plates are unnecessary. Standard component methods are limited by bolt spacing requirements, but IDEA StatiCa Connection's computational method considers individual bolt forces and has no such limitations. This allowed the software to prove extra bolts were not needed in one project, saving the client money. If we connect 2 I-profiles to the end plate, we usually use two lines of bolts. If this is not
enough, as in our case with a large tensile force, we will use four lines. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱
𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
It is no surprise that bolts further from the profile are not used much.

The 𝗖𝗕𝗙𝗘𝗠 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 is not limited by bolt spacing, and we can prove that a remarkable
number of bolts would be unnecessary in the connection.

This case was also one of the impulses for creating 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗖𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Back then,
we saved the investor of a building much money. ✅
