Stages of Infection DLP KEN

1. The document describes the four stages of infection: incubation, prodromal, acute, and convalescent. 2. During the incubation stage, the virus multiplies without symptoms. In the prodromal stage, initial symptoms develop. 3. The illness stage is when full symptoms of the disease are present and the person is most contagious. In the decline stage, symptoms begin to lessen as the immune system gains control.

Standard prevention and control of communicable diseases for the
attainment of individual wellness
B. Performance Consistently demonstrates personal responsibility and
Standards healthful practices in the prevention and control of
communicable disease
C. Learning 1. Describe the four stages of infection: incubation,
Competencie prodromal, acute, and convalescent.
s 2. Analyze the importance of early detection and
treatment of infections by discussing how each
stage of infection affects individuals emotionally
and mentally.

“Tired”
“Hungry”

Before we start, I'd like to request everybody to please

cooperate with me and listen carefully as we tackled our
new lesson okay?

Yes Sir!
B. Establishing a Today, we will be having our next lesson in
new lesson. Health.

Before we start our discussion, I’ll show you some

pictures and try to analyze each picture okay?
Yes Sir.
st
Now for the 1 picture

Now what can you say about the 1st picture?

I can say that the guy is sick
Yes, Angela? and runny nose because of so
many used tissues in the
Okay very goo that is right, the person is sick. picture.

Now for the 2nd picture.

Uhm I think this guy is more
sick than the 1st picture
Now what can you say here in the 2nd picture? because we can see that he is
having a flu or he’s not really
Yes Eric? feeling well.
That’s is correct thank you Eric

Now for the third picture.

As we can see the person in

the picture has a serious
So, what can you say to our 3rd picture? illness because he is in the
hospital, meaning he is in a
Yes Aliza? serious condition that need a
medical attention.

Okay that is right.

So, all of you are very observative and very good for
Analyzing each picture.

So based on the activity, what do you think is our

topic for today?
Our topic for today is about
sickness sir
Yes, Dave?
I think our topic is about stages
Okay, other hands? of sickness sir
Yes, Stephanie?
Well very good Stephanie you are so close to get it
right but our topic for today is Stages of infection.
Students raised their hands
Who among you here experienced an illness that is
caused by infection?

Okay I can see that many of you have a story to tell

about their experiences.
Now lets go now to our new lesson
D. Discussing
new concepts A. INTRODUCTION
and practicing
new skills STAGES OF INFECTION
(Formative
assessment#1) 1. INCUBATION STAGE

 The onset of contagious disease wherein the

virus multiplies until it affects the body’s
defenses
 The period when infection and the first signs
and symptoms associated with a disease
appear
 During this stage, a sick person may actually
spread the disease-causing microorganisms
without knowing because this is symptom-less
stage where microbes can multiply inside the
body and also spread to other people
 The length of this period is dependent on the
kind of microorganism that invades the person
and his/her immune system

So can you give me an illness that requires the

sick person to be isolated and incubated?

Yes Ricamae? I think chicken pox sir and

covid19.
Okay that is right. Also the incubation period of
chickenpox is 14-16 days and COVID-19 for 5-14
days

Did everyone understand what is incubation stage?

“Sir, Yes sir!!”

2. PRODROMAL STAGE
 During this stage, although the person does not
feel weak, sick, or may not appear sick, the
virus has become stronger than the body’s
defenses
 The illness may be spread to other people
 This is a short stage of disease development
where a person begins to feel that they are
getting sick
 The signs and symptoms during this stage
typically result from activation of the immune
system, such as fever, pain, soreness, swelling,
or inflammation.
So in this stage, the initial symptoms of the
infection start to manifest.

3. ILLNESS STAGE
 The illness has developed
 In case of flu, fever, aches, and pains, and
other symptoms are present
 This is the stage where a person feels the
typical signs and symptoms associated with
the disease
 This is also the stage where the person can
most easily transmit a communicable disease
to another person
 The peak of illness intensity is known as acme
point
.
(students will listen)
4. DECLINE STAGE

 This is the stage of disease development where

the immune system begins to bring microbial
replication under control which leads to the
lessening of the signs and symptoms
associated with the disease .
 Damaged tissues begin to repair, and pathogen
numbers decrease
So, in this stage you are actually slowly starting to
get better

5. CONVALESCENCE STAGE

 This is the final stage of the disease process

where the microbial replication is fully
stopped and the person returns to the pre-
illness stage
 Although depending on the disease, the person
may not proceed to this stage and may die
from their disease or be disabled

(students will listen)

The progression of an infectious disease can be
divided into five periods, which are related to the
number of pathogen particles (red) and the
severity of signs and symptoms (blue).

ABSTRACTION
So, class do you understand the 5 stages of Infection?

what are the 5 stages?

Yes sir!
Okay very good, you all listened well to our
discussion.
“Incubation stage”
“Prodromal Stage”
“Illness Stage”
“Decline stage”
“Convalescence stage”

E. Assessment of So now you will be grouped into 6 groups. Each

Learning group will show the 5 stages of infection in a role
play scenario. So, I’ll give you 15 minutes to prepare
and later on each group will perform their role-play
F. Making The students will generalize the lesson by answering
Generalizations this.

 What did you learn in our discussion today? “We learn the 5 stages of
infection and how to
recognize each stages sir”

G. Evaluating Let's now have a short quiz based on our class

Learning discussion and activity today.
Get ¼ sheet of papers and answer the following.
Write what stage is being describe or asked in
each number.
Choices: Incubation stage, Prodromal Stage,
Illness Stage, Decline stage, Convalescence
stage.
1. What is the stage called when you've just
been infected but don't feel sick yet?
2. When do you start feeling a little sick, but
the symptoms are still mild?
3. What is the stage when you feel the worst
and have the strongest symptoms?
4. After you start feeling better, what is the Answers:
next stage called? 1. Incubation Stage
5. Which stage is important to catch early to 2. Prodromal Stage
stop the illness from spreading? 3. Illness Stage
TRUE OR FALSE 4. Decline Stage
6. During the incubation stage, you usually 5. Incubation Stage
have severe symptoms. 6. False
7. The prodromal stage is when you start 7. True
feeling a little sick, but the symptoms are 8. False
still mild. 9. True
8. The convalescence stage is when you feel 10. False
the worst and have the strongest symptoms.
9. After the decline stage, you start feeling
better and symptoms gradually subside.
10. The incubation stage is crucial for early
detection and treatment to prevent the
spread of illness.
