i) is minimum for critical activites ii) can never be less than zero
iii) can never be greater than zero iv) is always zero for critical activity
(g) PERT calculation yields a project length of 60 weeks with a variance of 9 weeks. Probability factor
corresponding to 95% is 1.647; then the number of weeks required to complete the project with a probability
of 95% is
i) 60.94 ii) 62.94
iii) 64.94 iv) 66.9417
(h) Which one of the following project management technique is deterministic in nature?

(i) What is the duration by which the completion time of any activity can be delayed without affecting the start of
any of the succeeding activities?
i) Interfering float ii) Free float
iii) Independent float iv) Total float
j) Whenever an activity has zero total float, then
i) free float of the activity must be zero but independent float may not be zero
ii) independent float need not be zero
iii) free float and independent float both must be zero
iv) free float and independent float both need not be zero
2. What do you understand by term CPM and its significance? As per the given below network diagram, calculate the
following: 14
(a) Estimated duration of project
(b) Critical path
(c) EST, EFT, LST and LFT of each activities.
(d) Total floats of each activity.
E
t=5 6
2
A I
t=3 F t=6 t=1
B G
1 t=4 3 t=4
C D t=3 5
t=14 H t=1
3. (a) What is project management? Also, explain the elements of project management. 4
(b) Explain various methods of project scheduling. Also, draw a bar chart with the help of given information and calculate
the project duration.
Activity No. Duration
1 1
2 2
3 4
4 3
5 1
6 2
7 4
Activity 2 and activity 3 can be done concurrently and both must follow activity 1. Activity 2 must precede activity 4.
Activity 5 cannot begin until both activities 2 & 3 are completed. Activity 6 & 7can be started only after activities 4 & 5 are
complete. 10
4. (A) Define event and activity and also explain different type of activity with the help of a network diagram?

A 4 2 8
B 7 3 15 A
C 4 4 4 A
D 11 5 23 B, C
E 8 4 16 B
F 6 3 15 D, E
G 5 5 5 D
(i) Draw Network Diagram, find critical path, the expected completion time.
(ii) What project duration will have 95% confidence of completion? Take Z = 1.64. 10
5. Define direct cost, indirect cost and cost slope of a project and also explain Total Cost Curve.
A, B, C and D are the activities. Their normal and crash duration and associated costs are given in thr table below:
Activity Normal Norma Crash Crash
Duration l cost Duration Cost
(Days) (Rs.) (days) (Rs.)
A 8 6000 4 12000
B 4 2000 2 14000
