TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THIS MODEL

3D Papercraft: Pine Christmas Tree
Approximately size (Height x Width x Depth): 24.0 cm/ 9.5 in, 19.3 cm/ 7.6 in, 19.3 cm/ 7.6 in
Paper: A4 or A3 colored or white(preferably cardstock 160-300 gsm/ 60-110lb cover weight)
(in States, the equivalent A4 is Letter and equivalent A3 is Tabloid)
A4 Template (PDF): 6 pages - 22 parts
A3 Template (PDF): 3 pages - 22 Parts

This paper model contain templates in A3 and A4 format. You can choose, which is the best for you.
It is the same pattern for two paper formats. The nal size of the paper model won't change, if you use A4 or A3.
If you want a bigger sculpture, print the A4 pattern on A3 paper. While printing,
click on „custom scale>and indicate 140%.“
If you want a smaller sculpture, print the A3 pattern on A4 paper. While printing,
click on „custom scale>and indicate 70%.“
BE CAREFUL: with smaller parts, the sculpture will be harder to assemble.

A4 is identical with letter format and A3 is the same as Tabloid. There is a small
different between size of the US format and the international format. Before printing,
I recommend to check if the pdf document will ll whole your page. If not, you can
decrease the size of pdf document until it will be t perfectly. For example, something
about 97%. The nal paper model will be a bit smaller.

REQUIRED TOOLS

Printed pattern. You can print it at home or in copy shop. I prefer colored cardstock paper with density/grammage
of 160-300gsm (60-110lb).
Too thin paper will be easier to assemble but whole sculpture can collapse into itself. Too thick paper will be hard to
assembly, but sculpture will be stronger.
Use these colors: Green. Or use color you like, but not too dark, you won't see the printed lines and numbers.
Snap-off knife, pair of scissors, paper scalpel or any small knife with a sharp, xed and thin blade.
Score/crease tool. Ballpoint pen (without ink) or something like that. It works very precise and doesn't damage
the paper.
Cutting mat for work with cutting knife/scalpel. You can use self-healing cutting mat(plastic mat) or any wood
or plastic board.
Metal ruler is the best option. Plastic or wood ruler can be damaged easily when you use cutting knife/scalpel.
Liquid white glue or white school/hobby glue, both fast-drying and does not damage the paper.

HOW TO DO IT

CUT only along the solid lines! (They are a bit thicker then other lines)

SCORING basically means embossing the fold lines to make sharper, crisper folds. Scoring
may seem like an extra, time-consuming step you can skip, but I highly recommend to score
your models then the pieces will t together more seamlessly and beautifully. A ruler is
also useful here for scoring straight lines. Score along the dashed lines, for a mountain
fold, and along the dashed lines with dots, for a valley fold. Do not trying to cut Mountine fold line - this is
through them, you just want to crease the paper, to make it easier to fold. generally a ‘mountain’ fold
where the fold is upwards,
like a mountain.
FOLD along the lines that you have scored. Generally the folds are 'mountain folds'
meaning the fold ends up at the top, and the sides slope down, like a mountain. Sometimes
the folds are 'valley folds' which are the opposite, meaning the fold ends down at the bottom,
and the sides slope up, like a valley.

ORGANIZE cutted and folded parts by numbers (numbers in circles). You can better imagine,
which parts will put together. This process will save your time , because you won't need
search for each part all time.

Solid line (cut line)

Valley fold line – when this is
shown it’s essential that the
Dashed line (mountain fold) crease goes downwards,
like a valley.

HOW TO DO IT apply the glue. On the entire

ap/tab area. (also to the corners)

And naly the STICKING. You must match the numbers (number 1.
with the other number 1., number 2. with the other number 2., etc...).
One number will have a ap (tab) and the other will not. You must
use the aps (tabs) to glue this two parts together. Flaps can be
recognized by the areas with the grey shade.

Apply glue to the other side of the ap/tab (on the non-printed side).
Printed side should be hidden inside the model. Apply glue on the
entire ap area (also to the corners where a toothpick might come
in handy) and press the tab to the underside of the other piece with
the matching number. When you glue two parts together, remember
to pinch that area tight for 10 seconds or so, until the glue dryes. Glue
the aps one at a time. Do not make a lot of aps at once, the glue
will dry fast.

Begin with number 1, continue with number 2, etc .

Follow the numbers from 1. to 88. Or you can follow the numbers of parts
from 1 to 22 (numbers in circles).
Also pictorial assembly scheme will be able to help you. (on the next pages) Two parts before sticking.

Two parts after sticking.

This papercraft model is created to has the numbers of the pattern on the INSIDE of the sculpture.

However, it is possible to make him with the numbers of the pattern on the OUTSIDE the paper model.
In this case, you will have to invert the folds (Valley folds will become Mountain folds and vice versa).

Making the sculpture that way is easier. But, be careful! Then, you can not use
the Assembly Scheme, because sculpture will be mirror-reversed!

With both techniques (numbers inside or outside), the aps go always in the inside
of the sculpture.
