Folder Redirection
enables users and administrators to redirect the path of a known
folder to a new location, manually or by using Group Policy. The
new location can be a folder on the local computer or a directory
on a file share.
Steps on How to Configure File Redirection:
SERVER
is a type of computer that shares information with
other computers.
CLIENT
A client is a computer that connects to and uses the
resources of a remote computer or server.
SERVER SET UP
We are going to install
first the server
Select Installation type which is Role-Based or Feature-based
Installation and then click Next button
Select Running windows Server and then select Next
Select roles to install on the selected server after
selecting click next button
Select Group Policy Management to allow a network
administrator in charge in Microsoft active directory to implement
specific configurations for users and computers and then Click
Next Button
Click Next Button
To Confirm Installation Click “Install”
Wait for installation complete
• Click the Task Details
• Click “Promote this server to a domain
controller” for Active Directory Services
• Select “add new Forest “
• Create a root domain name example
(Group5.com)
• Click Next
• Create Password and confirm
• Click Next
Click Next
Click Install
• Click “Tools”
• Choose “Active Directory Users and
Computers”
• Right Click the domain name
• “new > Organizational Unit”
> Create Name and the Click “ok” button
• Click Organizational Unit name (omboy)
• Right Click > new > User
• Put first Name,Lastname and user Log in Name
• Click Next Button
• Put the Password and confirm password
• Select “Password never expires”
• Click Next Button
>Click Finish
• Go back to Users
• Click “Omboy”
• Right click “Analou Omboy” > Properties
• Select “Member Of”
• Click “Ok” button
• Enter the object name to select (Ad)
• Click “Check Names” > ok > ok
• Select Domain User > Add > Apply > ok
Click “Tools” > Select Group Policy Management
Right Click domain name (Group5.com) >
“create a GPO in this Domain”
Put name eg. (tinga) > click “ok” button
Click “User Configuration” > click “ok”
button
Click “Policies”
>”windows Settings”
>”Folder Redirection”
>”Desktop”
>Right Click “Desktop” > “Properties”
➢ Select “Basic –Redirect everyone’s folder
to the sane location”
> Create Folder
Create “Share name” > “ok > apply > ok”
>Click “Advance Sharing” > Advance Sharing
➢ Select “Full Control,change,Read”
>Click “Advance Sharing” > Security
>Click “Advance Sharing” > Security >Advance
>”change “
>Click “Advance Sharing” > Security >Advance >”change
“
➢ Go back to “desktop Properties”
➢ Copy the “Network Path” and paste to “Root
Path”
➢ Click “ok”button
➢ Wait to restart
>open network and sharing center
➢ Change adopter setting > Right click
“Ethernet” > Properties
➢ Click Internet Protocol version 4 >
Properties
Put ip address
After Setting up the ip address
>open network and sharing center
➢ Click Change advance sharing setting>
➢ Turn On “Private”, “Guest or Public Profile”, “Domain”
➢ Turn off the Password in “All Networks”
Go to your folder and open
Click and open the “omboy” folder
Continue and your done
setting up the server
CLIENT SET UP
Put ip address
Go to change setting
Put your domain name
Put your username and password
Click ok and restart now
Go to your folder that you created in server and click desktop and
continue
After You can see the folder from server
and process successful
