1.

My character, personality

I have some weak and strong points in my character. Sometimes I can keep myself to myself
but usually I’m a down-to-earth.
A lot of people tell me that I take after my brother because I’m a people person and a good
listener. I think I’m an extravert as I love people and everything around me. I am a really
friendly person and make friends quite easily. Also I like meeting new people and
communicating with them. I always try to adapt to every situation because many things in our
life can constantly change.
On the one hand, I have some positive traits, for example, sensitivity, responsibility,
reliability. Furthermore, I like to achieve my goals. My friends say that I’m a good laugh and
often call me the soul of company, although I may be shy or fretful. But there are moments
when people hurt my feelings and make me anxious. I usually try to ignore them since I really
dislike rude and lying people.
In addition, one more of my positive traits is generosity. It takes pleasure when I share
something with other people. I'm a punctual person and I always do everything according to the
schedule.
I’d say that one of my disadvantages is perfectionism. Sometimes I want to do really difficult
things and when I can't do it I feel frustrated.
In conclusion I’d like to say that every person is a personality and each of us has a different
character. It depends on the people around us. We should constantly improve ourselves as a
person

2.The gamut of feelings I have experienced

Hi, guys!
There are many ways to have fun in your free time, so today I want to tell you about a concert I
recently visited. Last month I have visited a concert of my beloved Russian band MiyaGi & Andy
Panda. It is held on the second of September at the stadion Ukraine at 9 o’clock in the evening.
Their leader writes songs about his life himself. They performed songs in rap style. I like their
songs because it is a simple text.
Before this concert, I felt anxious because I have waited for it for a long time. However, this concert
was started I felt impressed when I heard my favorite song ”Kosandra”. After the concert emotions
overwhelmed me for a long time.
It’s an activity I’d like to recommend to all my friends.

3.The activity to do before you die

I want to tell you about activities which I want to do before I die.

I would like to try diving. I saw a lot of films of this activity. This is very interesting to see how
different fishes live at the bottom of the sea.

I want to spend my time on Bali. They have a lot of exotic fruits and cocktails which I want to try.
Also, I want to meet the sunset over the sea. Also I want to organized party on the beach.

I would like to celebrate Halloween in the USA. This is traditional holiday there. Children wear
monstrous costumes and asking every citizen “Trick or Treat”. At the same time, it`s quite scary
and funny.

My favourite kind of film is detective, so the last activity which I want to do, it`s to make my own
movie about this genre. Actors of this film will be my friends and my family.

4.Big help can start out small scale

I want to give you an example of how a small scale can grow into a big help.
A dry cleaners is offering its services free of charge to unemployed people to help them look their
best for job interviews. Ken Thind , who owns Thind cleaners in Vancouver got the idea from an
article he read on the internet. They have done this for three years and since they started , the
company has cleaned over a hundred outfits. The money comes out of him profits but for him it’s
worth it . He always say to them “Go out and get that job” and a lot of people do it. That makes it
all worth while.
I think we should help others because it's easy. You mustn’t give money, you can do what you can.

5.Surveillance technology:keeping us safe or invasion of privacy?

Since surveillance cameras have been invented for security reasons at shopping malls and
stores they have also been place in public areas such as stoplights, parking lots, hallways, bus
stops, and more.
I mainly think that our privacy maybe invaded due to the cameras being placed in a mass of
public areas privacy can easily be invaded I don’t like it because if your on the phone and the
people that watch the tapes can read lips can see what you are saying/texting and with texting
they can zoom in on the messages.
Basically the government wants to see what we are up to 24/7 which is wrong for us now in
stores and businesses I don’t really care for because those are to help catch thieves in the act of
stealing store goods like TV systems, games systems and a lot more but really they invade a lot
of privacy. Security cameras can be found in shopping malls, stores and in schools to help
prevent theft in those buildings with security cameras can be benifituary in the places to catch
robbers thieves shoplifters and employees not doing their work on camera.
Basically security cameras are basically good and bad in all ways due to helping the public
and bad for invading peoples privacy daily which would not surprise me that the government is
also up to no good doing all of this but if it helps catches people who are hacking computers
from other countries then oh well with that stuff. So in all ways they are good and bad for most
public areas besides stores and high criminal activity area parking lots for otherwise crime will
not stop for the people and privacy will keep being invaded as long there is crime

.6.Violent video games.For and against

Violent video games have more negative effects that the positive effects. The effects of the
violent video games, mostly affect the audience, regardless of the age. Violent games are highly
watched by teenagers . It is apparent that players of violent video games do not target at a
specific audience, but they get sold to all potential customers in the market.

Some of the positive effects of violent video games include; allowing children to improve their
computer literacy and player’s manual dexterity. It is clear that the violent video games may not be
seen as violent by children, especially if the aim of watching is entertainment and gaining of S
computer literacy. A child understands how to use the computer and other gadgets connected for
enabling proper watching of the video game .Like any other video games, violent video games
increase the eye-hand coordination to the player.

Violent video games have harmful effects to all people apart from the violent game players. Violent
video games increase the angry feelings and physiological arousal Many people who watch violent
video games develop angry feelings and they may cope and practice what they watch on video to
their peers. Some people may have more feelings and tend to increase the physiological arousal due
to the nature of the game they watch. Some violent video games involve mass killings whereby
after watching people being shot to death, the audience may think as if it is real and happening
around him

Watching violent video games lead to decrease of the behavior of helping other people, as well as
feelings of empathy for other people. Many violent video games seek to show that people should be
handled with violence regardless their status . Violent video games, no mercy gets applied or help to
the ones suffering, but violent gets applied even to the most suffering people in the game. People
stop having humanity as they handle other people because of watching the violent video games
whereby they practice the fact of the game in their real life and as they live with other people.

Violent video games are not the same as movies, but the players behave as if they are acting and
practicing real violence. It is apparent that many children imitate the violence they see as they play
the violent video games. Some children handle problems with violence as a result of being much
exposed to violent video games. The more children get exposed to violent video games, the more
they get affected by them . Violent images of video games also affect children with behavior and
emotional problems whereby some develop bad dreams as they sleep, just to scare them.

Being overly involved in playing violent video games leads to many problems as they players spend
much time on the games. Players develop poor social skills, many students spend much time away
from the school work (Anderson, & Brad, 359). Many people spend much time away from family
and other hobbies and the students score low grades and read less. There is less exercise for the
video game player whereby majority of them become overweight.

Violent video games have more negative effects compared to positive effects to the player. The
large numbers of people who play video games get addicted and spend much of their time on the
games. They enable players to gain computer literacy whereby they use computers and for them to
play well they need to understand more about computers. Violent video games make many people
to develop violence to other people, whereby they lose them

7. Cosmetic surgery.For and against.

With the application of science and technology in medicine, people, especially youngsters, are
becoming more aware of cosmetic surgery. According to a recent survey, nearly half of teenagers
from 14 to 18 years old said they wanted surgery in pursuit of a "designer" body like their idols and
celebrities. However, having cosmetic surgery before turning eighteen is still illegal in most
countries. There are pros and cons in doing this.

There are two main reasons why youngsters want to go through cosmetic surgery. Firstly, the
surgery will theoretically make them more beautiful. Usually, a teen wishes to use the surgery to
correct poorly proportioned parts of their body including a mis-shapen nose, protruding ears, overly
large breasts, asymmetrical breasts, or severe acne and scarring. After their physical characteristics
have been corrected, they should look prettier and more attractive. Secondly, having cosmetic
surgery is a way to gain self-esteem. Because their physical problems have been solved, they no
longer feel awkward about their appearances. Therefore, they frequently gain more confidence in
themselves. For example, Caitlin Clemons, an American teenager, who used to have low self-
esteem because of her body, was reported to gain confidence after her breast augmentation surgery.

On the other hand, having cosmetic surgery before 18 also has some drawbacks. Firstly, it increases
the risk of being affected by side effects from these surgeries. Because teenagers' bodies have not
yet matured to their final shape, going under the knife for plastic surgery could cause some dangers.
For instance, when going under cosmetic surgery, there is a chance that you could have a reaction
against anesthesia used in the operations, which can be deadly. Furthermore, cosmetic surgery is
likely to make patients get scars, which cannot be corrected. Secondly, allowing teenagers to go
through plastic surgery may make them overestimate physical appearances over inner
characteristics. Gradually, they may not treasure their personalities but try as hard as possible to
enhance their looks.

In conclusion, having cosmetic surgery has both advantages and disadvantages. It could help you
become more beautiful, but at the same time, make you become a surgery disaster, if the surgery
does not succeed. As a teenager, trying to enhance our body is necessary, but we should also try to
improve our personality.

8.Downloading and sharing film. For and against.

Large number of people download films for free. Today it’s like a usual thing. Also there are lots of
people who love it and who hate. I can’t say that I’m for it or absolutely against. On the one hand
it’s a crime as artists have copyright on their song so you’re stealing from them. What goes around
comes around. A great example is story about one man from the USA. He got fined about over the
million dollars for downloading and sharing films. And the very thought of it makes me anxious.
But I don’t know any similar situation in Ukraine. So maybe that’s not a problem here.
On the other hand many people literally don’t have enough money to watch film. But they also want
to watch something moving, intense, hilarious or dramatic. So these people look up some special
websites and download films. They go on doing it and other go by them.

9.Compulsory school uniform.For and against.

School uniforms come in all sizes and create a sense of unity among students. But not all parents
like the idea of sending their children to school in a uniform. Many schools in the US today
propagate the concept of uniform for the students, but there are many private and public institutes in
the country that feel otherwise. It is believed that kids who wear a school uniform perform better in
their school and have a higher sense of safety. But there is no right answer to whether kids should
wear a school uniform or not. In this article, we have come some advantages and disadvantages of
wearing school uniform. These should help you decide if you should buy a school uniform for your
child or not!
Let’s discuss the advantages of school uniforms for children.
One of the many benefits of wearing school uniforms for children is that they create a sense of
identity and unity among school students. When children wear a similar uniform daily, they will
have a similar identity and they won’t compete over who wears expensive or fashionable clothes.
Children who cannot afford to wear expensive clothes won’t feel insecure if there is a uniform.
When all the kids are dressed in the same clothes it is difficult to establish their economic
background. Uniforms create a sense of equality among kids, which makes them mingle with each
other without bothering about their economic and social status.
When there are fewer distractions and lesser concerns on the way one looks, a child can spend more
time doing schoolwork. Also, according to one of the studies it was established that students’ scores
improved after a uniform was introduced in the school.
Buying school uniforms for kids is more economical than buying an entire wardrobe for the season.
Also, the school uniforms are made from stronger and better fabric, which means they can stand
repeated washing and everyday wear and tear better than normal clothes. This also means that a few
sets of uniforms can be sufficient to sail effectively throughout the entire academic year.
Apart from various other reasons, clothes are one of the major reasons for bullying in school.
However, wearing the same clothes or uniform helps in ensuring that there is no discrimination on
the basis of clothes or how a particular child dress up.
When students wear uniforms, it becomes easier for the teachers to find out who is an outsider and
who should not be on the school premises. It also discourages gang affiliations in school, which is
usually evident by the colour of the clothes.
Here are some disadvantages of school uniforms:
By not allowing kids to dress up in the way they wish to, most schools hamper with the
individuality of a child. The child is forced to dress up in a way that he may not be comfortable in.
In an effort to enforce equality amongst students, sometimes certain uniform rules can create other
kinds of biases and inequalities such as girls may not be allowed to wear pants. They may be asked
to wear stockings. Similarly, wearing ties may be compulsory for boys, which they may not like.
Some kids may not be comfortable wearing a certain kind or type of garment that may include
school uniforms too. This can be due to the fabric, the fit, or the cut of the uniform. This may cause
utter discomfort to the child and may affect a child’s concentration and mood in the school.
Not all students like to wear school uniforms. They may not be happy with the idea of wearing
same clothes every day and may want to dress up. But having to wear a uniform daily can instil a
sense of resentment in a child. He may not like his school, teachers, and even parents.
The above-mentioned are some of the pros and cons of wearing school uniforms. There will always
be talks or debates about whether children should wear school uniforms or not.

10. Husbands and wives sharing household duties equally

I’d like to talk to you about a common issue concerning sharing of household duties between
husband and wife. Several centuries before men used to work hard and women used to stay home
and bring up children. As the time goes by, everything changes. Now many family couples try to
share duties. Personally, I think that it’s a right thing to do. Generally speaking, lots of husbands
don’t support and don’t help their wives with growing up their children and doing some housework.
They are sure that their main task is to earn money and that’s all. That’s why many women start
complaining. Men don’t have to put feet up, they have to take a lead. What tends to happen is that
women will be encouraged in some way and their life may be eased. The most important thing is
that fathers should spend more time with their children and their lives will be on a more keel. That’s
bound to be a huge advantage. However, it also can be risky if man hates doing housework or
staying with kids. Anyway, it is not possible for one family member to do all the staff. If duties and
tasks are divided, then it’s fair enough. In addition, I wand to add that husband and wife must
understand and trust each other. Whatever happens, they should be ready to take a lead and solve a
problem. In this way, it won’t be too problematic for them to share duties

11.Tell a story about an experience in your life that illustrates a saying/disproves a saying

NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED

Nowadays our life is impossible without risks. So, today I want to tell you about my experience.

When I was in the eighth grade, I made a decision that changed my life. Apparently, like all
teenagers, I wanted to make money to realize my wishes. Inspired by the photos on the Internet, I
decided to make sets of hair accessories.

Firstly, I discussed this idea with my parents and received support from them. Secondly, I bought
the necessary materials and started looking for instructions for the right job. I had been thinking
about some risks. Eventually, my little dream came true and the first set was bought. After that I
started receiving a certain number of orders. I was very happy, because it is natural to worry about
it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t continue to make accessories because schooling started.

Finally, I’m glad I had a great experience and tried myself in a little business.

12. Tell a story about of a famous person

Chester Bennington was born in 1976. When he was a kid, his parents got divorced, so Chester
grew up with his father. Actually, his father couldn’t bring him up and spend time with him due to
his job. Chester suffered violence when he studied at school. It was a huge childhood trauma which
remained with him till his last days. He dropped out school when he was a teenager and took on a
job as an employee in Burger King. In spite of all the difficulties and no financial support, he was
fond of music. Music enabled him to wake up every day and carry on. He was a member of a rock
band called “Grey Daze” for several years. Once, he was invited to another group called “Xero” by
Mike Shinoda. After that they made some changes in the group. They had been thinking for an
appropriate title of the band when Chester requested to call the band “Lincoln Park”. Guys slightly
changed this title and after that a Linkin Park band was born. After recording the first album
“Hybrid Theory” the band became well-known and quite popular. Many people looked up to
Chester as an inspiring and strong personality. As the years went by, guys remained popular and
continued recording new songs. Chester was a true inspiration for millions of fans. He ignited a
flame of passion in their hearts forever. Unfortunately, he passed away on July 20th, 2017

13. Tell your own six-word story about an aspect of your life/the life someone famous/smone you
known

Self-development, optimism, music, books, motivation and friendship. That’s how I describe my
present life. I am going to explain each point. Self-development – I reckon that it’s the key point of
my life. I always try to rediscover my curiosity by digging into things like languages, psychology,
history, culture. I’ve been studying these essential things since high school. I don’t want to run out
of ideas, so I keep getting new knowledge. Optimism – another key aspect in my life which helps
me to stay strong. Many people keep saying that I am a good laugh. I’ve always tried to be satisfied
with what I have. Music – exactly music inspires me and overwhelm me with special power.
Whenever I feel frustrated, I take my guitar and play something. I also can turn on some songs and I
feel relieved. I can’t express this incredible feeling… Books – another source of knowledge. I had
read lots of books from classic literature before I took up reading psychological novels. Motivation
– if you are motivated enough then you are considered as a remarkable person. You will never give
up what you are doing if you are passionate about it. I make much of an effort to go beyond the
limits and achieve my goals. Friendship – as I am a people person, I do love making new friends
and communicating with others. I respect everyone and have good relationship with everybody.
You know, initially, I was embarrassed to show my skills and express myself in these spheres. Now,
I understand that I made a big mistake. If only I hadn’t been afraid of that. I wish I were more
experienced now…

14. Choose a film adapter from a book

I want to tell you about film adapted from a book “A dog’s purpose”. It is
American adventure comedy-drama directed by Lasse Hallstrom, released in 2017. The film is
based on the novel of the same name by W. Bruce Cameron and tells about the life and various
reincarnations of the dog. The story of one devoted dog who finds the meaning of his own existence
through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. At first, he simply learned to open the
door and guard the owners. He then became a faithful friend and companion to one boy. He saved
lives and was a joy to those who needed it, again and again, trying to understand the purpose of his
life, which he dedicates to the people around him.
In my opinion, the film better presents all the emotions than books.
15.Tell the students about your favourite film moment/scene

The Battle of Helm’s Deep is one of the most engaging and exciting parts of Peter Jackson’s The
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The scene, which occurs towards the end of the film, is a
desperate battle for survival as Saruman’s army closes in on the outnumbered Rohan refugees.
Throughout this scene, Jackson uses a combination of techniques – mainly camera techniques,
acting, editing and sound – to engage the audience.

One of the things that makes this scene engaging is not the action but rather its focus on the helpless
victims inside the castle. Before the action scene begins, Jackson shows the women and children
being herded into a cave beneath the keep. In this part of the scene, camera techniques, acting and
sound all help the audience identify with these characters. Cutting to the caves, Jackson tracks a
group of women as they shuffle inside. Music plays an integral role in encouraging the audience to
identify with these characters, Howard Shore’s emotive and mournful score rising in the
background while a baby cries and the camera pans to reveal a long shot of how many people are
crammed into the cave. Jackson then cuts to a close up of a woman, tearful, as she farewells her
elderly husband. The music begins to rise as Jackson cuts to a slow motion shot of a solider tearing
a young boy away from his mother, whose face is twisted in anguish. A third shot shows two young
children huddling with their mother. This combination of editing, acting and music helps to engage
the audience, compelling them to feel a sense of sympathy for these characters.

As the Rohirrim prepare for battle, Jackson uses a montage to engage the audience by conveying
how the odds are stacked against them. The montage begins with King Theodin (Bernard Hill)
reciting a poem as he is strapped into his armour. Throughout this montage, music plays a very
important role in audience engagement. The sense of sorrow has been replaced by a sense of unease
as the sound of dramatic male choir rises in the background. “To whatever end,” Theodin says
grimly. Jackson cuts to a series of shots which show, dark backlit orcs marching across the
landscape. “Where is the horse and the rider?” Theodin starts to recite, “Where is the horn that was
blowing?” In this moment, Jackson’s use of shot size and editing helps to engage the audience by
conveying how hopeless the battle is. He cuts to a series of shots: an old man sharpening a sword, a
line of elderly men collecting weapons, a young boy being fitted with a helm, another receiving a
battle axe, both with terrified expressions on their faces. “The days have gone down in the west,”
Theodin says, as Jackson cuts towards another shot of the approaching orcs, then to another final
shot of a young boy picking up a shield. “How did it come to this?” Theodin asks as the montage
draws to a close.
Before the battle begins, Jackson takes another opportunity to build suspense. In this part of the
sequence, the camera pulls back to reveal the men standing on the ramparts. Sound and sound
editing is very important in this part of the scene to create a sense of anticipation and suspense.
There are few sounds: the mournful sigh of the wind, the creak of battlements and, in the distance,
the battle cry of an orc. Throughout this sequence, mise en scene also makes an important
contribution to audience engagement. The castle is wreathed in fog and the moonlight casts a
desaturated blue tone across the battlefield. There is a suspenseful clap of thunder and flash of
lightning as the orc army marches relentlessly towards the wall. Jackson slowly dollies in on a shot
of Theodin as rain begins to fall then cuts to several shots of the orcs, their weapons and armour
clanking ominously, as they approach.

Throughout The Battle of Helm’s Deep, director Peter Jackson uses a number of techniques to
engage the audience. It isn’t just the tense battle scene but rather the lead up to this which, through a
combination of camera techniques, acting, mise en scene, editing, lighting and sound – helps to
engage the audience.

In the climactic scene of Thor, director Kenneth Branagh uses a range of cinematic techniques –
including camera techniques, acting, editing and sound – to engage the audience by emphasising
Thor’s sacrifice and heroism.

The scene begins with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) confronting the Destroyer sent by Loki. Branagh
uses a medium shot of Thor which emphasises the resolve on his face as he drops a useless shield to
the ground. In this shot, Branagh also creates a sense unease by using a canted shot. Because this
type of shot is unconventional, it contributes to the sense of unease that the audience feels about
Thor’s fate. Branagh cuts to a close up of the shield as it clatters dramatically to the ground as the
score becomes lower and more dramatic. Part of the effectiveness of this scene is the way Branagh
cuts between Thor and his friends. Before Thor approaches the Destroyer, Branagh cuts to a
medium shot of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) who turns around in shock and yells, “Wait!” In the
next shot, Thor walks slowly towards the Destroyer in slow motion with his friends watching
helplessly in the background. To increase the drama, Branagh cuts to a handheld dolly-in on Jane as
she says, “What’s he doing?!” This dolly-in increases audience engagement by emphasising the
shocked expression on her face. Branagh cuts to a long shot of the street, the camera dollying up
slightly, as Thor approaches the machine. The heroic score written by Patrick Doyle rises in the
background which engages the audience by highlighting Thor’s heroism. At this point, Branagh
cuts to an aerial shot of the street which emphasises how small and helpless Thor looks amid the
destruction. Branagh again highlights the character’s heroism by cutting to a close up of Thor as he
approaches the Destroyer.

Thor’s sacrifice is made particularly moving through the use of music, acting and dialogue.
“Brother, however I have wronged you, whatever I have done that has led you to do this, I am truly
sorry,” Thor says softly as the heroic music rises in the background. “But these people are innocent,
taking their lives will gain you nothing. So take mine, and end this.” As Thor delivers this line of
dialogue, Branagh lingers on a tight close up of the character to engage the audience by
emphasising his sincerity and the nobility of his sacrifice. Before he finishes the line, Branagh cuts
to a low angle shot of Thor standing in front of the Destroyer, emphasising its size and how helpless
Thor looks in comparison. When he is struck down by the Destroyer, Branagh cuts to a slow motion
shot of Jane running towards his body. The following conversation is filmed in tight close ups to
emphasise the emotion of the moment.

The scene builds to an exciting confrontation when Branagh cuts to a flashback of Odin (Anthony
Hopkins) saying, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of
Thor!” As he says these words, Branagh cuts to a rapid series of shots which show the hammer
breaking free from stone. He lingers for a moment on a tight close up of the hammer, stone breaking
away. The music begins to build in intensity as it streaks towards the sky. Branagh cuts to a close
up of the seemingly dead Thor as the music continues to rise. To emphasise the drama of the
moment, there are loud percussive crashes as Thor reaches out and catches the hammer.

Throughout this sequence, director Kenneth Branagh uses a combination of camera techniques,
acting, editing and sound to engage the audience by emphasising the nobility of Thor’s sacrifice.
