1.
Write 250-500 words reflecting on one summer School activity that you attended and
include the following points:
Your expectations of the activity beforehand and upon reflection, whether they
were met
The impact the activity had on you, and what you learnt about yourself
You may wish to use an example of an activity that took you out of your comfort zone
or presented a challenge to you. Alternatively, you can talk about the activity that you
enjoyed the most.
One Summer school activity that I had attended was the Water sports activity, the obstacle course
on water was an amazing experience that I will never forget, and I thoroughly enjoyed.
My Expectations of that evening was not exactly what ended up happening, my thoughts on water
sports were going on water slides or Rollercoasters that ended in us getting wet. I envisioned the day
were my friends and I would have time to create memories with one another. Not only did this
happen but it enabled me to make new friends during this activity. Beforehand, me and my friends
though we knew how to swim, and we were confident that our skills at swimming will be strong
enough to take part in this activity, but we were wrong and for some of us it was our weakness. we
discovered that swimming was not our strength at all, which prevented us from getting far within
the obstacle course.
However, in hindsight, my friends and I, as well as the new ones, created rich memories that will
stick with us forever, that our common struggles from not big able to swim was what brought us
together. The impact the activity had on me was now understanding that not everything has to go
to plan and in fact a bit of spontaneity can act as a blessing in disguise but the experience serve as a
reality check, teaching me that no matter how good you believe you are at something there is always
room for improvement and that process can lead to amazing results, in this case were the new
friends I had made.
2. Write 250-500 words reflecting on the following points:
Discuss the skills and personal attributes you will need in order to be a successful
university student.
Reflect on how you have developed one of the skills or personal attributes
mentioned above.
Identify a skill or attribute you know you need to develop further and reflect on
how you can develop this over the next year.
There are several skills and attributes that I will need in order to be a successful university student,
such as having self-motivation, procrastinating less, organisational skills, listening skills, budgeting
skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, social skills as well as being able to collaborate with
others and many more.
These skills are essential to have in everyday life situations and I have been trying to develop these
skills through secondary to Sixth form and soon University and although I have developed some of
these skills, I still must work on most. Through my time at secondary, during GCSE I had to work hard
on Procrastinating less and on my Organisation skills and not being afraid to ask questions to get
the grades I had wanted and although it was hard the drive of succeeding was very helpful and
pushed me as far as to get me into Sixth form, which is why I know that more improvement within
these targeted skills are needed. I have also needed to develop on my Critical thinking, social and
budgeting skills; during my time at Sixth form. As all my subjects requires me thinking creatively and
being able to have a unique perspective on different scenarios whether in looking at why things
happen in a book I am reading or how a business runs and why certain decisions are made. I have
also developed my social skills and budgeting skills from the new people I have met in sixth form and
being able to get a Job and approach people who require my services within my job, and this has
also enhanced my confidence and communication skills. Sixth form is also expensive especially as a
young teenager who wants to be able to save for the future but also have fun with friends and buy
things for myself, I have learnt how to manage my finances which will also be extremely helpful as a
Uni student.
Finally, a skills that I still need to work on is my Procrastinating sills and being able to balance social
life and Study life and to ask for help more when I need it and not feel like me asking question will be
a burden towards the teacher as it will make a difference towards my education, I can work on these
attributes by planning my routine on revision time and relaxing to not over work myself, get my
parents to encourage me to put in the work but most importantly motivate myself to realise that the
hard work will pay off at the end of the year.
3. Write 250-500 words briefly describing your own university and/or career goals and
discuss two or more specific actions you will take during Year 13 in order to achieve
these goals. You should include an appropriate timeline for completing these actions
and identify the resources and/or people that may be able to support you to achieve
these goals. You may wish to consider the following topics when considering your
actions:
work experience and/or research into a profession
university research/open days (including virtual)
preparing your UCAS application
preparing for admissions interviews
study skills
mock exams
revision techniques
developing coping mechanisms for when things get stressful
My university and or Career goals is to get the grades need to get into university to study Law with
Business, the career I want to pursue is either to become a corporate lawyer or become a business
analyst, yet my decision varies all the time.
To get to this stage in my life I will need to do more research on my Courses and what I will need to
add to my Personal statements on events that I have done that link to my career goals, such as
joining Debate mate. By joining Debate mate, it has enabled me to understand what it is like to
become a lawyer by using facts and Knowledge to prove my side of a case by doing this it has
broaden my idea of the profession. I also have a part time Job at Boots and through my Job I have
learnt the different business techniques needed to run a business whether by building connections
with customers or learning the financial aspects from my manager such as pricing and more which
has also increased my business understanding to an extent. I plan to get involved in more
programmes that will get me to understand more about my career choices from the opportunities
given at school this year. I also tend to use the resources with Future scholars to help me with
preparing for my UCAS application, University research and preparation for university admission
interviews. They have kindly offered to help a few students in London, and I was lucky enough to get
picked, which I am grateful for.
As for my Study skills and revision techniques for future mock exams, I am still figuring out what I
could do to improve and develop a way for me to properly revise but I am aware that my teachers,
friends, and family members will gladly help find what best suits me to prepare for my exams for
example, ‘How to properly answer exam questions’. Also, in time of stress a way that helps me rest
(my coping mechanism) is doing things I enjoy such as listening to music and singing as that is
something I do every day and it makes me happy. I also have a caring family who are always open to
listen to me as well as support me.
