I begin this summary of:
The Recitations of the Prophet (),
Other then the Faatiha, in Salaat
Notes:
1-The term “mufassal” means the “last seventh of the Qur’aan,” and it starts from soorat Qaaf
(#50) to the last soorah of An-Naass (#114).
2-The longest of it is from Qaaf (#50) to soorat An-Naba’ (#78).
3-The medium part of it is from soorat An-Naba’ (#78) to soorat Ad-Duhaa (#93).
4-The shortest is from soorat Ad-Duhaa (#93) to the end.
Salaat The Prophet’s Recitation Notes
Al-Fajr 1-He used to recite 60 verses in both rak’ah of Fajr or 60 in In the Sunnah of the
each Fajr Prayer:
2-Al-Mu’minon (23) until he reached to verse 45, or 50. 1-Q2:136 in the 1st
3-As-Saafaat (#32) rak’ah, and Q3:64 in
4-sometimes with the longer mufassal (#50 and the like) in the 2nd one, or Q3:52
two rak’ahs. (occasionally).
5-From soorat At-Toor (52) during the Farewell pilgrimage 2-Q109 in the 1st &
st
6-Soorat #50 or similar in the 1 rak’ah Q112 in the 2nd.
7-Soorat #30.
8-Soorat Yaaseen (sometimes).
9-Sometimes with the shorter mufassal such as #81.
10-Once he recited # 99 in both rak’ahs.
11-Sometimes with #113 & 114.
12-And soorat as-Sajdah (#32) in the 1st rak’ah and ad-Dahr
(#76) in the Fajr of Friday.
Al-Thurh 1-Sometimes he () used to lengthen it.
2-Sometimes he used to recite about 30 verses in each of the
1st two rak’ah., and about 15 verses in each of the last two.
3-Sometimes reciting: Q84, Q86, Q85, Q87, Q92, & similar
soorahs.
Al-‘Asr 1-Sometimes he () used to lengthen it.
2-Sometimes he used to recite about 30 verses in each of the
1st two rak’ah., and about 15 verses in each of the last two.
3-Sometimes reciting: Q84, Q86, Q85, Q87, Q92, & similar
soorahs.
Al-maghrib 1-Most often he () recited from the shortest of al-mufassal.
2-Also he sometimes recited Q7, Q77, Q52, Q44, or Q8.
Al-‘Ishaa’ 1-Sometimes Q84, and Q95 (once on a journey)
2-Q91 and the like.
3-Q84 and make sajdah (prostration) during it.
4-He () forbade prolonging the recitation in ‘Ishaa’ and
instructed Mu’aath ibn Jabal () to recite: Q91, Q77, Q96, or
Q92.
Al-Jumu’ah 1-Q62 and Q63 in the 1st and 2nd rak’ah, respectively, or
2-Q87, and Q88, resp.
‘Eed 1-Q50, and Q54, or
2-Q87, and Q88.
