AKIRA TORIYAMA

Born on April 5, 1955, of Japanese nationality, he was a Japanese manga artist


and character designer. He achieved popular recognition after creating the manga
character Dr. Slump, before creating Dragon Ball and acting as a character
designer for video games. such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger and
Blue Dragon. Toriyama is considered one of the most important authors in the
history of manga, especially for the creation of Dragon Ball.

He won the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen manga with Dr.
Slump, which went on to sell more than 35 million copies in Japón. It was adapted
into a successful anime series, with a second series created in 1997, 13 years after
the manga ended. His next series, Dragon Ball, would become one of the most
popular and successful mangas in the world.
