Plate 1 Finals

This document contains instructions for completing two plates of civil engineering problems related to simple and compound curves. For each plate, students are directed to write their name and section, copy problems, show step-by-step solutions with labeled diagrams, sign each page, follow instructions to avoid penalties, and submit on time. Plate 1 contains 5 sample problems testing skills like determining middle ordinate, stationing of points of intersection, and radius of a compound curve. Plate 2 instructs students to compose and solve 10 additional problems each for simple and compound curves.

PLATE NO.1

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.) Write your complete name on the left side of the paper and your section below, then write your complete
schedule on the right side.
2.) Copy the questions and draw the figure.
3,) Show your complete solution and draw the figure which is the basis of your analysis.
4.) Make your solutions clean and avoid too many alterations.
5.) Affix your signature on every page on the bottom right part of the answer sheet.
6.) Strictly follow all the instructions to avoid receiving large sum of demerit on your output.
7.) Strictly no late submissions.

Problem #1: A 4-degree simple curve have tangents with bearings of N 20° E and N 60° E, respectively.
The stationing of PI is 3 + 980.
a.) Determine the middle ordinate in meters
b.) Determine the stationing of PT
c.) Determine the stationing of Q on the curve whose deflection angle from PC is 12°.

Problem # 2: The deflection angles of two intermediate points A and B of a highway curve are 4°15' and
9°15' respectively. The chord distance between points A and B is 20 m. while the long chord is 120 m.
stationing of P.I is 80+060. Find the stationing of P.C. and P.T.

Problem # 3: A 5° curve intersects a property line CD at a point D. The back tangent intersects the
property line at point C which is 105.270 m from the P.C which is at station 2+040. The angle that the
property line CD makes with the back tangent is 110°50’

a.) Determine the distance CD

b.) Determine the stationing of point D

Problem # 4: The common tangent AB of a compound curve is 82.38 m. the angles of the common
tangent makes with the tangents through PC and PT of the compound curve are 21° 10’ and 15° 20’,
respectively. If the degree of the curve is 3° 30’, what is the radius of the second curve?

tangents. The common tangent of the compound curve is parallel to the long chord that is 185 meters
long.

a.) What is the radius of the smaller curve?

b.) What is the radius of the bigger curve?
