4.1 Introductory Activity (10 minutes) I. Preliminaries

II. Motivation: FIND ME!

The teacher will share the puzzle below on the TV screen. The teacher will instruct
the students to write down words they can find on the crossword puzzle. After 3
minutes, the teacher will ask the students and allow them to raise their hand if they
want to answer.

Direction: On ¼ piece of paper, write down the words you can find in the crossword
puzzle below. Words can go in any direction. Words can share letters as they cross
over each other.

Instructions:
The teacher will instruct students to take a seat. The teacher will divide the
class into 5 groups. Each group member should collaborate and write their answer
on a sheet of paper. Students will identify the 2 objects being compared in the text
(10 minutes) given. Each group should choose 1 participant to present their answer in front by
reading it aloud.

Figures of Speech
-is a rhetorical device that achieve a special effect by using words in a distinctive
way
-it is a use of language that has other meaning than its normal definition
-It makes the language more creative, more expressive and just more
interesting.

Types of Figure of Speech


➢ Simile
direct comparison that uses the words “like” and “as”

E.g. He is as tall as a mountain.


My best friend sings like an angel.

“Can anyone give me an example of Simile?”

12 minutes ➢ Metaphor
direct comparison without the use of “like” and “as”

E.g. Time is a thief. (Time seems to pass quickly)


Life is a roller-coaster. (Life has ups and downs)

➢ Personification
attributing human actions on inanimate objects

E.g. The moon played hide and seek with the clouds.
My flowers were begging for water.

4.5 5 minutes The same 5 groups of students will have the following tasks with their group mates.
Application These tasks will help the students to apply what they have learned to strengthen

Instructions:

1. Compose a poem with 2-3 stanzas using the figurative language to make
your piece more beautiful. Pick a leader from your group. The leader
should hear out each members’ ideas and collect them in order to make a
poem. Make sure to collaborate with your group mates and share your
ideas for a better result.
2. Practice for 5 minutes to present your poem in front. Make sure to
memorize your piece. You will be graded as a group.

The group’s presentation is graded based on the criteria below.
