Reference Equipment Required
Rule
Cylinder graduate.
Sample
Timer
Cup measuring 1000ml.
Scope:
For determination of water retention ability of fresh concrete under pressure, and the
thickness of a filter paper.
Measuring principle
The applied pressure for carrying out the test with the CE562 Concrete Filter Press was set to 5
bar, which is kept constant over a period of 5 minutes. Depending on the requirements and
experience, it may be necessary to screen the coarse-grained concrete to be examined to a
maximum of 8 mm. According to internal experience, this screening can usually be dispensed with
up to a maximum diameter of 20 mm.
Filtration water
High requirements ≤ 22 ml; Medium requirements ≤ 40 ml; Low requirements ≤ 60 ml
Filter cake
The filter cake produced in the test provides additional information on the suitability of the
fresh concrete.
A low filter cake height and a soft filter cake is advantageous. Rinse the filter and measure
by insert a ruler for 30s.
Procedure:
1. Put a sealing Ring in the Cylinder Bottom and add one Screen, then insert a filter paper
and add another Seling Ring to catch the Test Cylinder
2. Pouring the sample to be measure in the Test Cylinder and put in a Frame.
3. Add a Sealing Ring on Cylinder head and install the pressure regulator then tight the
Frame Locking Bolt and secure.
4. Set the Pressure Regulator on 5bar and add a cylinder graduated under to collect the
water, run the test for 30 min.
5. Realease the pressure and remove the top of seal and empty the cylinder.
6. Remove the filter, rinse, and measure the thickness by insert a ruler for 30s and make the
readings.
