INSTRUCTION MANUAL

PRINT SERVER for Windows

FS-100 Series

Be sure to read this manual prior to use.


Please leave this manual at the site of use for easy reference.
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the PRINT SERVER (FS-100U2/FS-100U/FS-100P).
To ensure safe and efficient long-term use of this device, read and thoroughly understand this
manual before using the device.
After using this manual, be sure to keep it in a handy place for reference.
This manual is for various models, so the specifications of your device may be different.

Precautions for printing and duplicating


There are restrictions on what you may print on the printer.
Please be aware that there are some printed materials that are illegal even to possess.

1. Printed matters banned by law


● Paper money, currency, government bonds and national and local bonds cannot be
duplicated, even if they are stamped with the “sample” seal.
● Paper money, currency and bonds, etc. that are valid in a foreign country cannot be
duplicated.
● Unused postage stamps and postcards cannot be duplicated without governmental consent.
● Government-issued papers pertaining to stamps, liquor and sales tax laws cannot be
duplicated.
2. Printed matters that require caution
● Printed-issued securities (stocks, bills and checks, etc.), passes and tickets require caution
in duplicating unless a business is duplicating them for required number for their own
business needs.
● Government-issued passports, public- and private-issued driver’s licenses, permits, IDs,
passes, food stamps, etc. require caution in duplicating.
3. Copyrighted materials
● Books, music, artwork, prints, maps, diagrams, movies, photography, etc. are banned from
duplicating outside the limits of private home use and their related non-sale usage.

A circle with a line through it indicates a prohibited action.
The particular act prohibited is indicated by a picture inside the circle.

A black disc indicates an instruction, or sometimes a prohibited action.


The instruction itself is indicated by pictorial symbols drawn in white on
the disc. (In the example shown here, the instruction is “Remove the
plug from the outlet.”)

● Precautions for use

WARNING

● If the device is used after foreign matter (metal fragments, water, or liquid) has
entered the device, this may result in fire or electric shock.
→ Turn the main unit’s power switch OFF, and then remove the power plug from
the outlet. Contact the dealer/sales distributor.

● If the device is used after heat, smoke, strange smell, or other abnormality is
detected, this may result in fire or electric shock.
→ Turn the main unit’s power switch OFF, and then remove the power plug from
the outlet. Contact the dealer/sales distributor.

● Do not insert or drop metal, flammable material, or other matter through the
ventilation holes into the device interior.
→ Doing so may result in fire or electric shock.

● Do not place flower vases, flowerpots, cups, or water containers (including


metal containers) on top of the device.
→ Fire or electric shock may result if liquid spills inside the device.

Do not connect two or more loads to a single outlet.

● Be sure to remove dust on the power plug and/or the outlet.


Using these without removing dust may have minute electric current flow to the
surface due to the humidity and cause a fire due to the heat.

● Do not remove or insert the power plug with wet hands.

● Do not damage, break, or modify the power cord.


Do not place heavy objects on, tug, or unnecessarily bend the power cord.

Setup Software
The following describes the setup software, which contains setup tools, general utility and the
manual. This can be used in Windows.

• If you are using Windows 8 or later version:

Turn the computer ON to start the Windows.

Insert the CD-ROM that came with the Duprinter


into your computer's CD-ROM drive.
[Select what happens with this disc.] appears in the
bottom right part of the screen. Click the message.

REFERENCE
• If you are using Windows 7 or earlier version, this message screen does not appear. Go
to the next step.
• This message will disappear automatically after a certain period of time. In this case,
open the drive where the CD-ROM is located from [Computer], then execute [Fssetup.
exe].

Click [Fssetup.exe].

REFERENCE
• If the [AutoPlay] screen does not appear, open
the drive where the CD-ROM is located from
[Computer], then execute [Fssetup.exe].

The main menu screen appears.

Select to install software separately. The screen below appears by selecting [Printer Driver
Setup] in the menu.

Install the printer driver.

• FS-Print2002
Install FS-Print2002 (print client software).
The supplied FS-Print2002 is required to print directly from Windows via TCP/IP. LPR (for
DUPLO Printers) is included.

Setup Software

Print Server Setup


Select [Print Server Setup] in the menu, the following screen appears. Select the desired setup.

• Quick Setup (recommended for the initial installation)


The wizard helps you for initial installation. You can also install FS-Print2002 after the
initial installation.

• Advanced Setup
You can run or install [AdminManager] which is used for advanced setup and
controlling this device.

Connecting Procedure

• Ethernet hub
• Network Cable

IMPORTANT

Before Use
• The device requires the Ethernet hub and the network cable (category 5 or above), which
support 100BASE-TX.
• The device requires the Ethernet hub and the network cable (category 5e or above),
which support 1000BASE-T.

Attaching the Ferrite Core


REFERENCE
An ferrite core comes with the Print Server depending on model. Attach it to the network cable
to be used.

Open the ferrite core (using a flathead screwdriver).

Attach the ferrite core to the network cable at a


location 10 cm from the base of the connector,
and wind the network cable around the ferrite core
10cm
twice.

IMPORTANT
• Attach the ferrite core to the connector side
that connects to the print server.

Connecting Procedure

Close the ferrite core so that it locks.

IMPORTANT
• Care should be taken not to get your fingers
caught when attaching the ferrite core.
• Do not close the ferrite core with the cord
caught.

Installing the FS-100 Series

IMPORTANT
• Please read the instruction manual of your printer before connecting the device to the
printer. The procedure and position may vary depending on the printer.
• Unplug the printer when connecting the device to the printer.
• If the device has been used in another network, reset to default. (“Resetting to Default”
→ see p.11)
• Use only the AC adapter supplied with the device. Other adapter may cause malfunction.

After turning OFF and unplugging the printer, connect the device.
At this time, the AC adapter should not be connected to the print server.

• FS-100U/U2
Connect the device to the USB terminals on the printer with the USB cable.
• FS-100P
Connect the device to the parallel interface.

Connect the cable to the port (10BASE-T/100BASE-TX) on the print server.

Connect the other end to the Ethernet hub (HUB).

After connecting the AC adapter to the print server, turn ON the printer, then check if it starts
properly.

Resetting to Default

FS-100U2

Turn on the FS-100U2 while holding down the reset button. 1


Keep holding down the reset button. initialization to factory default will start.

Before Use
When initialization has been completed, the LINK LED flashes in green.
Release the reset button.

FS-100U

Turn on the FS-100U while holding down the reset button.

With the reset button held down, confirm visually that LED (orange) on the network port
flashes once.

Then, hold down this button for 2 seconds and more. Initialization to factory default will start.

When initialization has been completed, the LED (orange) on the network port flashes.

FS-100P

IMPORTANT
• Be sure to turn off the printer when operating Dip switches.

Turn OFF the printer.

Turn OFF the FP-100P. (Unplug the AC adapter.)

Turn ON the Dip switch 2.

Turn ON the FS-100P. (Plug in the AC adapter.)

Wait for about 10 seconds.

Turn OFF the FS-100P. (Unplug the AC adapter.)

Turn OFF the Dip switch 2.

IMPORTANT
• Delete the printer driver for DUPLO if installed.(“Software Uninstallation” → see p.125)
• Administrator rights are required to sign in for installation, deleting and setting change of
the printer driver.
• If operating system allows multiple users on one computer, make sure that no other user
but you is signed in.

REFERENCE
• If you install the printer driver using this procedure, bidirectional support with DUPLO
printers is unavailable.


 Check the printer folder. 

The printer driver is already


installed.


 Delete the printer driver.

 Install the printer driver.

Read the SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT.


Select [I agree] and click [Next].

Select the language to be used, and click the [Next]


button.

Select your printer.


Click [Next].

Select the port to be connected to the DUPRINTER.


The port for this product will be created later.
For now, select [LPT1:(Local Port)] and click [Next].

REFERENCE
If you are using this product and reinstall the
printer driver for upgrade, the setup of this
product and creating network port have been
completed. In this case, select the same port that
you are using.

Easy Setup Using Quick Setup
You can easily setup the IP address of this product using Quick Setup. Select [Quick Setup] at the
initial installation. If you have already completed the IP address setting, go on to the next step.
If you need advanced setup, use AdminManager. (“Setting Functions” → p.101)

The following steps use Windows 10 screenshots, as an example.

Click [Software Install] from the Main Menu (“Setup


Software” → p.5) and click [Quick Setup].

proceed with the installation.

A promotion screen to add the application to the


exceptions list of Windows firewall appears. Click
[Yes] to register on the exception list.

Read the SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT.


Click [Yes].

Select the print server.


Select the device and click [Next].

REFERENCE
If the device is not in the search result overview,
click [Search]. The device can also be selected
by entering Ethernet address directly.

Check the [Assign IP Address] button and set IP


address for the environment that you are using.
Click [Next].

REFERENCE
• If DHCP server is available in the environment
that you are using, IP address can be assigned
automatically. However, if the IP address is
changed, you need to set the printer port again.

IMPORTANT
Be sure to check with the network administrator in advance for the IP address for the
environment that you are using.

Check the configuration parameter.


Click [Execute].

Installing FS-Print2002
You can use the supplied FS-Print2002 to print directly via TCP/IP using the device.
The FS-Print2002 is a print client sofoware LPR (for DUPLO printers) is included. After installing,
Add Printer Port Wizard starts. The following steps use Windows 10 screenshots.

IMPORTANT
• The supplied FS-Print2002 is required to print directly from Windows 98 or Windows
Me via TCP/IP.

REFERENCE
• LPR (Line Printer Remote)
A widely used protocol that enables printing with the printer on the Local area network
(LAN).

Click [Printer Driver Setup] in the main menu(“Setup


Software” → see p.5) and click [FS-Print2002].

FS-Print2002 Install Wizard starts.

The [Print] dialog box appears. Select a printer that
you are using, then click the [Preferences] button.

1. Preview
Shows the printed image for the current settings.

2. Paper source
Configures the source from where the paper is fed. Set the source to match the printer you
are using. When you select [Automatic paper feed], the paper source that supports the paper
size that you selected is automatically selected. If [Panel Setting] is selected, the paper
source set at the control panel is selected. If you select a paper source other than [Automatic
paper feed] or [Panel Setting], make sure that the correct paper size is being fed from that
paper source.

3. Document size
Selects the Document size for the document. Adjust the paper size to the document being
printed.
The Document size and types shown in the list are supported by the printer.

4. [Custom Paper size]


Allows you to set custom paper sizes.

5. Output size
To enlarge or reduce the print job to match the size of the paper, select a paper size from the
[Output size] list.
Output sizes in the list correspond to the sizes supported by the Duprinter that you use.

REFERENCE
• [100% (Automatic correction ON) ] normally prints at 100%. If [Document size] is larger
than the maximum paper size that the Duprinter supports, the document is reduced and
printed to fit on the maximum paper size.

6. Free scaling
If you set [Free scaling], you can freely adjust the percent of change in the document. You
can set the change in a range of 50% to 200%. To print the document at normal size (100%),
select [Equal to document size].

REFERENCE
If you set [Free scaling], duplex printing is not available.

7. Orientation
Specifies the orientation in which the document is printed. Set the layout in which the
document is to be printed [Portrait] (vertical orientation) or [Landscape] (horizontal
orientation). Match this to the shape of the document being printed. Select [Portrait] for
vertically long documents. Select [Landscape] for horizontally long documents.

REFERENCE
Printing on an incorrect document size or orientation may cause the document to be
printed in the wrong position or the wrong size.

8. Number of Copies
Sets the number of copies to be printed. You can set a value from 1 to 9999. If it is possible
to set the number of copies in the application software, then you need to set the number
of copies in either the printer driver or the application software. Some application software
cannot be set to the 9999 upper limit.

For duplex printing, set Copy count (Number of Copies × Number of Sets) to 500 or less.

9. Number of Sets
Sets the number of sets of copies to be printed. You can set a value from 1 to 99.

For duplex printing, set Copy count (Number of Copies × Number of Sets) to 500 or less.

10. Version
Displays the version of the printer driver.

11. Restore defaults


Returns the settings to their default values.

1. Document type
Specifies the document type depending on the content of the document. You can print
documents at a setting that is suitable for the content of the document.

2. Dither type
Select a halftone size that applies to the content set in [Document type].

3. Brightness
Adjusts the brightness and darkness of the image. Increasing the value makes the images
brighter, decreasing the value makes the images darker.

4. Contrast
Setting the value higher makes the darker areas darker and the light areas lighter. Lowering
the value reduces the contrast between the dark and light portions in the halftone parts of
the image.

5. Black setting
Use this setting to print black color of the document darker. Increasing the value makes black
color darker, decreasing the value makes black color lighter.

REFERENCE
• “Black setting” is for adjusting the density of all colors, not only black.
• Use “Black setting” if you get halftone image from the solid portion of the document.

6. Dither
Prints intermediate colors in halftones. Remove the check from this check box to print
intermediate colors without halftones.

7. Edge enhancement
Prints the image, emphasizing the area that brightness change is large. Emphasizes the
outline of light-colored small print, making it easy to read.

1. Color separation
Check this check box to do color separation. You can have the printer driver do color
separation when you print. This function makes it easy to print documents with several colors.
When you do color printing with color separation, set the color in the application software
beforehand. Set the available colors in [Designated colors] to do this kind of color printing.

2. Output of the designated colors


Only the color selected in [Designated color] is printed.
You can select more than one color.

3. Output excepting the designated colors


Colors other than that selected in [Designated color] is printed.
You can select more than one color.

4. Designated color
Specifies colors to be printed or not to be printed.
[Designated color] are controlled according to their RGB values. The RGB values of the
[Designated color] are as follows.

5. Fluctuation
Used to include a range of values for the designated color with the RGB value of the
[Designated color] as a base. Use it to specify colors that are nearly the same as the
[Designated color] when doing color separation.
For example, if you set a value of 50 for the [Fluctuation] value for a [Designated color] of
red (R:255, G:0, B:0), then color separation will be done for a designated color that covers a
range of colors that are R (205 to 255), G (0 to 50), and B (0 to 50).

REFERENCE
• Color separation may not be done correctly depending on the application software.

6. Dither
Prints intermediate colors in halftones. Remove the check from this check box to print

2. Online mode
Change online mode setting of the Duprinter before printing.

• Some models do not support online mode. If the Duprinter that you are using does not
support online mode, this item does not appear on the screen.
• Some models require to be upgraded even they support online mode. Contact a service

3. Proof print
Start printing after changing the proof print setting of the Duprinter.
Select [Not specified], [ON], or [OFF]. If you select [Not specified], the setting follows the
Duprinter that you are using.

performs automatic reset and reboot. Modify the workgroup name and IP address by

IP Address Configuration
Setting IP address manually.:
• Prior to the setting, check the Ethernet address, which is printed on the back of this device.
(Example: 00:80:92:4A:69:7C)

Select [Configuration] - [Set IP Address] from


AdminManager menu and start the IP Address
setup tool.

Enter the Ethernet address and IP address.


Click [OK].

Reset the device to activate the IP address.


Click [Yes].

IMPORTANT
• AdminManager [Restart] may not function depending on the printer. In this case,
restart the printer.

Uninstallation in Windows 2000/Windows XP can be performed in a similar way.

• If you are requested to enter password of administrator account during uninstallation of
the printer driver on Windows Vista, enter the password of the user with administrative
rights shown.
• Dialog on Windows XP/Windows 2000 differs from that on Windows Vista.

Click the [Start] button on the task bar and click


[Control Panel] on the menu.
