Best quality: Occult
Worst quality: Dissatisfaction
Signifies: Salvation, Vairagya, Tapasya, spirituality, knowledge, occult, aggressive speech, sudden breakup, separa-
tion, breaking, multicolour, suicide, sudden death, murder.

1.1.10 Uranus
Tagline: I evolve
Best quality: Originality
Worst quality: Rebellion
Signifies: Uranus represents the unconscious urge to become aware of your true inner individuality (the Sun).
Like a lightning bolt, Uranus symbolizes sudden flashes of insight, moments of revelation, and spurts of creativity.
Uranus’s energy is usually described as suddenness, revolution, change, shock, and disruption. Like lightning,
Uranus breaks into time and fractures our patterns. New ideas break into ordinary streams of thought, bringing
innovative solutions to stubborn problems. It is your intuition awakening you to a world beyond our social structure.
Uranus forces sudden changes when the usefulness of the old is gone and something newer, something higher and
better is ready to take its place. Uranus encompasses technology and all types of electronic devices. Uranus speeds
up the mind, making it to bypass logic and arrive at conclusions by leaping from A to Z, shocking people. Uranus
seeks alternatives to the common and accepted forms. True to itself, the planet Uranus stands out from the rest of
the planets by orbiting around on its "side." The rest of the planets orbit like a "spinning top," but Uranus insists
on rolling on its side like a ball. At best, Uranus encourages originality, versatility and independence. At worst, it
encourages eccentricity, perversion and rebellion. Uranus demands freedom.

1.1.11 Neptune
Tagline: I dream
Best quality: Idealism
Worst quality: Vagueness
Signifies: Neptune represents the unconscious urge to dissolve the boundaries of your ego-centeredness in order to
‘lose yourself’ in other realms of being. While Uranus breaks into our dimension to allow momentary flashes of
insight into other realms of existence, Neptune is those other realms. Neptune dissolves life’s patterns in order to
teach new meanings in the quest for universal wisdom. Neptune represents things that aren’t quite as they appear,
the illusive, and the unreal. It is the planet of receptivity, imagination, cloudiness, confusion, delusion, illusion, and
unreality. Neptune is also associated with movies, acting, and compassion. Neptune can indicate mystical visions of
a divine creator, or an experience of the primordial chaos before creation (dangerously, the latter can drive one to
madness). Neptune can indicate spiritual healing and service to others, or becoming lost in a foggy world of fantasy
and dreams. More often than not, Neptune indicates confusion in the House where it resides in your birth chart.
A negatively positioned Neptune in the natal chart can indicate a tendency to escape reality. The house and sign
will indicate whether it be through mind-altering drugs and alcohol, day-dreaming, sexual addiction, cult worship,
psychosis, potential suicide, or others. At its best, Neptune’s energy inspires marvelous art, music, theatre, dance,
poetry, and film. Above all, Neptune represents the intangible, and makes it very real.

1.1.12 Pluto
Tagline: I empower
Best quality: Transformation
Worst quality: Inversion (turning things upside down)
Signifies: Pluto represents the unconscious urge to transform repressed ego-desire energies into group-desire energies
in order to live out your role in society’s evolution. Pluto represents sexuality (the act itself, as opposed to the
energetic desire which is associated with Mars), obsessive desires, transformation, power, and the ingredients of
great wealth (investments, banking, loans, debt, mortgages). Pluto has dominion over drastic changes that bring
true upheavals. Since Pluto is the slowest-moving planet, an entire generation will share the same Pluto sign,
giving it historical importance. Drastic and permanent changes in civilization as a whole can be linked to Pluto’s
movement through the signs. On a personal level, the House that Pluto occupies in your chart will show how
6 CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION

Plutonian energy is manifested in your life. Pluto will transform those things in your life that require regeneration,
whether you desire it or not. You may experience dramatic crises or have to endure terrible suffering where Pluto
is involved in your chart, but for the purpose of healing. Pluto tears down only to transform and regenerate what
has been destroyed. Pluto is associated with recklessness, mental obsession and compulsion, emotional resistance,
and overall transcendence. It is also associated with unsolved mysteries, secrets, and taboos.

1.1.13 True mode or Mean mode for Rahu and Ketu?

Modern astrological softwares are built to use True and Mean, two different types of modes, to find position of
Rahu and Ketu. Both the modes have their own benefits. Let us understand it with examples

True Mode
A partial solar eclipse, observed in Nordic countries, occured on 1 June 2011 evening in Taurus. Trio, Sun, Moon,
and Ketu are together in Taurus sign if True Mode is selected while Ketu is in Gemini if Mean Mode is selected.
True Mode exactly represents the practical phenomena.

(a) True Mode (b) Mean Mode

Figure 1.1: Solar eclipse on 1 June 2011 in Nordic countries

Mean Mode
A jatak has problem in childbirth. Horoscope constructed using True Mode shows Rahu in Gemini for Aquarius
ascendant while it is placed in Taurus if Mean Mode is selected, exactly representing the problem of childbirth.
Panchmesh Venus’s affliction with Rahu is observed in Saptansh if Mean Mode is selected.

1.2 House
1.2.1 Lagn: First house
The first House is the House of self. This includes self-awareness, the physical body, personality, appearance,
personal views on life, self-identity, self-image, early environment, and beginnings; how we initiate, how we’re
impulsive. Any planets in this house will greatly influence your personality and how others perceive you.

1.2.2 Dhanbhav: Second house

The second House refers to your own money and possessions, what you value, your hidden talents, sense of self-
worth, self-esteem (how you value yourself, instead of describing your personality as in the 1st House). Possessions
include anything a person owns (except the house/home which is ruled by the 4th House): cars, furniture, clothing,
moveable property, investments and securities, etc. The 2nd house specifies how you gain and spend your own
money (as opposed to other’s money in the 8th house), your attitude towards wealth and material possessions, and
your potential for accumulating it/them.

(c) Saptansh in True Mode (d) Saptansh in Mean Mode

Figure 1.2: DOB: 10 August 1983, TOB: 18:45, 70E56 22N37

1.2.3 Parakrambhav: Third house

The third House is that of communication, which by extension includes one’s immediate environment: siblings,
neighbors, short journeys, and all forms of transportation. The 3rd house also includes the intellect, the lower mind
(details and small bits of information as opposed to the higher mind in 9th house), thinking patterns, and early
education (before college). Communication includes messages, deliveries, gossip, phone calls, visits, reading and
writing.

1.2.4 Sukhbhav: Fourth house

The fourth House refers to the home and everything associated with it (both the childhood home and the current
home): family, land, personal foundations (inner emotional security), your roots. Astrologers are divided over
whether this house is associated with one’s mother or father. What is clear is that a person’s upbringing is
associated with this House. On a deeper level, the 4th house is the base of consciousness or the center of our
concrete existence. See how the cusp of the 4th house is the I.C., the lowest point on the chart, representative of
things below the surface of Earth. Due to that, the 4th house was believed to rule the conditions at the end of
life, and graves. As the root or base of your real self, the 4th house rules where you go when you "die" but also
where you came from. For those who believe in reincarnation, the 4th house would give clues to your karmic lesson
for this lifetime. It shows what karmic baggage you brought with you into this life. Even if you don’t believe in
reincarnation, you’re likely to be surprised by what you find in your 4th house for it may move your soul. Any
planets in the 4th house affect your home life, your emotions, your subconscious, and possibly your relationship
with your parents.

1.2.5 Santanbhav: Fifth house

The fifth House refers to children, creativity, and the pursuit of pleasure. This includes personal interests, love affairs,
sports, hobbies, speculation, risk-taking, teaching, drama, creative self-expression, love given, gambling. The 5th
house is all about you being yourself and enjoying it. Romance, dating, love affairs, and sexual relationships are
8 CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION

ruled by this 5th house, yet marriage is assigned to the 7th. Why? Because, until very recently, marriage was not
entered into for pleasure, for love, nor for personal fulfillment. Marriage was hardly even entered into by choice, but
rather for the purpose of raising kids to preserve the values of a particular culture or religion. And these marriages
were most often arranged according to class and financial status, a partnership befitting the 7th house.

1.2.6 Ripubhav: Sixth house

The sixth House refers to daily work, service, diet, health and physical sickness, physical ability to work, employees.
This includes volunteer labor, civil service work, caretaking, and mundane daily tasks. The 6th house really involves
the quality of your work, the quality of the jobs you perform, as opposed to an actual career (career is represented
by the 10th house). Daily mundane tasks include personal hygiene and our method of responding to everyday crises.

1.2.7 Kalatrabhav: Seventh house

The seventh House is sometimes referred to as the House of marriage, but it encompasses all one-to-one relationships:
marriage, business partnerships, contracts, cooperative relationships, and also divorce, separation, quarrels, open
enemies, and law suits. The difference between the love affairs of the 5th House and love relationships of the 7th
is that the 7th House refers to more permanently binding relationships, whereas the 5th House refers to affairs
that may be temporary. When the 5th House affair progresses into a serious relationship, we can say that the
relationship has "moved into the 7th House." 7th house relationships are about cooperation and sharing, and they
generally serve some functional purpose in the larger social community (i.e. a marriage). This is different from a
5th house love affair, whose only qualification is "butterflies in the stomach." The 7th house includes the way you
relate to those closest to you. Planets in this house will influence your manner of relating. They also give clues to
issues that arise in your relationships.

1.2.8 Ayubhav: Eighth house

Simply put, the 8th house is the polar opposite of the 2nd house. Whereas the 2nd rules your own individual
possessions, the 8th house rules what a relationship owns (joint finances). The 8th House is one of the most
misunderstood Houses. This is probably because the things represented by the 8th House seem to have nothing in
common with each other, or they seem to be negative. This House governs death, regeneration, taxes, inheritances,
wills and legacies, sex (the actual act of sex), latent occult ability, joint resources, your partner’s money and
possessions, spouse’s money, bankruptcy, losses, personal sacrifices, alimony, clairvoyance. On a positive note, this
House is about transformation and healing. But transformation and healing require some type of death, loss, or
injury first. This House rules those processes and things by which we transform and become more powerful. Yes,
this includes the act of sex.

1.2.9 Bhagyabhav: Ninth house

The ninth House refers to philosophy, religion, law, learning, higher education (as opposed to early education by the
3rd House), ethics, morals, long journeys, travel, foreign countries and interests, spiritual urges, dreams, visions,
higher mind, ideas, understanding and wisdom, books, publishing, ceremonies, and rituals. This is the House of
big thoughts and big ideas. 9th house "understanding" is more complex than 3rd house "knowledge". The act of
"knowing" belongs to the 3rd house because it implies simply the direct contact of a person with something in his
environment. Understanding involves the synthesis of known data. While the 3rd house refers to an individual’s
need to understand his close and personal environment, the 9th house is an area in which one seeks to discover the
significance of larger fields of social existence which one may not experience directly but which his mind may explore
through the use of analogy, generalization and abstraction. The 3rd and 9th houses symbolize the 2 polarities of
the human mind, the concrete and the abstract. In summary, the 9th house includes experiences that we encounter
when we search for the meaning of things. Whatever expands your field of activity or the scope of your mind – long
journeys, contact with other cultures, great dreams, and even experiences with fortunetellers.

1.2.10 Karmbhav: Tenth house

The tenth House is the House of status, honor, community power, prestige, reputation, and professional career. In
our society, this includes financial success, but only as it relates to community power and prestige. It’s not about
gaining "material stuff" as it is in the 2nd house. The 10th house wants success for the sake of honor and social
1.3. SIGNS 9

status. This house includes social foundations (as opposed to personal home foundations in the 4th), recognition,
personal achievements, social responsibilities, sense of duty, authority figures, politicians. This House encompasses
the most public areas of one’s life, and the career that you grow into, as opposed to daily work and odd jobs ruled
by the 6th House. As with the 4th House, astrologers are divided over whether the 10th House rules one’s mother
or father. Those that say the 4th House rules the mother, say the 10th House rules the father, and vice versa.
What is clear is that the 4th House rules the nurturing, home-body parent, while the 10th House rules the public,
success-focused parent (the parent who "wears the pants"). As with the other angular houses, any planets in this
house are very important. Planets in the 10th house, the sign on the cusp of the 10th house, and its ruling planet
will greatly influence your career and your general reputation in public.

1.2.11 Labhabhav: Elevanth house

The eleventh House is the House of community, large groups, and friends. It refers to memberships, hopes, goals,
ambitions, wishes, social groups, associations, humanitarian interests. It also refers to self-realization, liberty,
legislation and regulation.

1.2.12 Vyaybhav: Twelfth house

This is probably the most misunderstood house of all. The twelfth House refers to the subconscious, the hidden
self that exists apart from our physical everyday reality. This includes the unconscious mind, subconscious mem-
ory, subconscious habit patterns from the past, mental illness, karmic debts, self-deception, escapism, spiritual
realization, limitations, frustration, and ultimately our self-undoing. On a physical, material level, the 12th house
includes things that take us away from everyday life: institutions (such as hospitals, prisons, government offices),
places of confinement, secrets, secret relationships, hidden enemies, and self-sacrifice for others. It also refers to
sorrow, tribulations, widowhood, grief, funerals, exile, seclusion, bribery, subversion, murder, suicide, kidnapping,
and endings. For those who believe, the 12th house is also considered to refer to the collective unconscious of all
humanity.

1.3 Signs
1.3.1 Aries
Best Quality: Leadership
Downside: egotistical, quick tempered, aggressiveness, hatred of restraint, officiousness (minding other people’s
business, meddling)
Keywords: self-esteem, initiative, activity, pioneering, ambition, enterprise, courageous, energetic, impulsive, op-
timistic, egotistical, innovative, original, strong drive, leader, enthusiastic, extroverted, competitive, self-reliant,
self-assured.
Character: Aries is Cardinal Fire, and the first sign of the zodiac. It’s the sign of action, new beginnings, and
initiative. It likes to plunge right into things without planning. The Aries sign is high energy. The birth chart
house with Aries on the cusp is where you’ll tend to be active, energetic, and take initiative. Aries is the archetype
of the warrior. Planets in Aries will be highly charged, expressing themselves strongly in your life. Planets in Aries
will be colored by the qualities of: self-willed urge for action, and self-assertion.

1.3.2 Taurus
Psychological Need: To be resourceful and productive
Best Quality: Stability
Downside: obstinacy, stubbornness, argumentative, possessiveness, love of rich food, dull
Keywords: affectionate, dependable, patient, stable, determination, endurance, thoroughness, conservative, har-
mony, possessions, practicality.
Character: The Taurus sign is the fixed Earth sign. It is slow, steady, and mostly easygoing. They say that “slow
and steady wins the race,” and Taurus proves this to be true. Taurus loves to build things, and has the determi-
nation and will-power to carry out long projects. With Venus as its ruler, Taurus is a hopeless romantic. Taurus
truly appreciates the physical beauty of the world and physical comfort. It is genuinely impressed by beautiful
appearances. Taurus focuses its attention and hard work on attaining the finer things in life. Its purposeful de-
termination and power is used to achieve security. Taurus is a practical sign, and will not make a move unless it
10 CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION

is assured that the person, situation, or relationship will be of use. It is sensual, perceiving through the physical
senses, mostly touch. But the need for security extends to emotional security. Taurus’s need for inner security
results in a possessiveness that borders on absurdity. It regards another person’s affection as it’s own property. Like
a bull, Taurus plods along, dull, apathetic, and slow to anger, but once provoked, it can be cruel and malicious.
Taurus is methodical and resistant to change. Planets in Taurus will be colored by the qualities of: possessiveness,
retentiveness, and steadiness. People with the Taurus sign rising tend to be strong, persistent, slow to change,
determined, stable, quiet (until pushed too far – then there will be trouble), practical, stubborn, non-aggressive,
patient, affectionate, loyal, hard-working, passive and unassuming in general, and fixed in their convictions with a
general slow pace of mind. Taureans can be led or coaxed, but never pushed or driven. Resources and possessions,
whether people or finances are very important to you. You want to build and make things grow, but you can’t be
hurried. You want to get your hands on things and see the practical results of your own hard work. You are good
at taking what others have started then carrying on. Success comes to you by sheer persistence and will. Your love
of sweet or rich food can incline you to put on weight. Try to be less rigid in all you do. Tame any jealousy and
instinct to possessiveness. You hate and fear sickness and pain.
Spiritual lesson to learn: Detachment. Venus rules Taurus so Venus will be important in your chart.

1.3.3 Gemini
Psychological Need: To communicate
Best Quality: Versatility
Downside: changeable, fickle, indecision, superficiality, restless, nervousness
Keywords: versatile, adaptable, nonconformist, inquisitive, curious, quick-witted, communication, networking, con-
genial, tactful, mentality, thinking, writing, speaking, literacy, speech, intellectual. Character: The Gemini sign is
mutable air, flitting about from place to place. Gemini has expert speaking and writing skills, able to charm the
uncharmable. It captures its environment, responds immediately, and moves to a new environment. Gemini is the
sign of networking and communications, gathering bits of information here and there and spreading them to others
who can benefit from them. The Gemini sign is known for its restlessness. Because of their restlessness and buzzing
activity, Geminis need periods of down time. Gemini people need alone time to recharge their batteries (although
Gemini does not like to be alone). Gemini is an air sign. Emotionally detached, this is a thinking sign. The
dichotomy here is that, while Gemini is ruled by Mercury, possessing genius mental powers, its energy is scattered
and dispersed. The result is that "success" by society’s standards is not easily achieved. It is not focused and
directed at one goal; rather it craves variety, change, and novelty. Success with Gemini can happen if the energy is
somehow focused. The Gemini sign gets bored easier than any other zodiac signs. Gemini changes and adapts to
the new in the blink of an eye, leaving others wondering what happened to the other. Maybe the symbolism of the
twins originated because Gemini types change so often as to make others guess that the new personality must be
someone else a twin, perhaps. People with Gemini rising tend to be friendly, communicative, flexible, indecisive,
unsure, liking to do two or more things at once, witty, clever, very active mentally, high-strung, temperamental,
nervous or anxious, talkative, superficial, and always ready for something different. There may be two distinct sides
to you as Gemini represents the Twins. You have a strong need to communicate what you already know and to
learn more. You enjoy reading and traveling as they both give plenty of scope for picking up new knowledge. You
need variety and can be the jack of all trades and the master of none. You tend to go wide – for breadth, not depth.
You may appear confident, but you can lack self-confidence and inner sureness. You love to talk, both with your
mouth as well as your hands.

1.3.4 Cancer
Psychological Need: To give and receive emotional warmth and security
Best Quality: Tenacity
Keywords: domesticity, sympathy, sensitiveness, artistry, tenacity, protectiveness, caring, nurturing, maternal.
Downside: touchiness, timidity, clannishness, restlessness, indolence, overemotional, over-sentimental
Character: The Cancer sign is cardinal water. As such, it is something of a contradiction. As a cardinal zodiac
sign, Cancer is assertive, a self-starter, and a "go-getter." These qualities are good for business. As water, Cancer is
intuitive, feeling, and nurturing. These qualities are traditionally good for being a homemaker, among other things.
Intuitive abilities also make Cancer good for business, since it can feel out good and bad situations. But, above all,
Cancer is led by its emotions. The Cancer sign is highly attached to the emotional roots of the past, and it is very
sensitive. Cancer’s main purpose is to build a family and acquire domestic security. It is family-oriented, and will
fight to protect its own. When hurt or threatened, its immediate response is to protect itself by retreating into its
1.3. SIGNS 11

shell, motivated by a need to protect its inner sensitivity. Although, it will lash out to protect family. It can also
be mean and moody. Generally, Cancer is caring, nurturing, and motherly.
A planet in Cancer will be colored by the qualities of: feeling, reserve, moods (moodiness), sensitivity, and self-
protection.
People with the Cancer sign rising tend to be less vital than average, sympathetic, compassionate, passive, nurturing,
receptive, protective, retentive, changeable, psychic, sentimental, tenacious, timid, quiet, sensitive, acquisitive (pack-
rat), and moody. Just like the crab Cancer represents, you may have the habit of looking ahead and behind you at
the same time, not fully wanting to face the future head-on and always worrying about the past and what might
be sneaking up on you from behind, causing you great worry. You go through life in a curious sideways motion,
never going simply directly forward. You are sensitive and you retreat into your shell when you feel threatened.
Your feelings can be easily hurt, even when no slight was meant and you can take things much too personally. You
enjoy travel, but you absolutely need to know that you have a home base waiting for you to come back to. Security
is everything for you in life. Physical security comes with a comfortable base of operations and emotional security
comes from all your possessions and attachments that have sentimental value to you. In fact, that’s why you keep
everything – because of all the emotional value and significance. Once you have latched onto something or someone,
you do not tend to let go easily. You respond to life through feeling, not thinking. Your moods go up and down
just like the tides.

You have an ingenious, active and alert mind. Gaining knowledge and putting it to good use are important to
you. You strive for perfection and can be quite the person to live with or to be around because your standards for
yourself and others are so high. At times others can never be "good" enough to meet those high standards. Finding
fault with what’s wrong with things is your forte. Sometimes, though, this can make relationships sour as you often
turn your critical eye on the one you love and the things they do. Pessimism and being too self-critical are two
faults you should try to improve upon. You may tend to worry too much, especially about the small stuff, the little
details. Too much worry can lead to health problems. You need to learn to digest every experience and assimilate
it without bitterness, regret, spite or resentment. You need to get rid of any negativity that stems from a feeling

full of adventures. They are positive and enthusiastic, and many times fortune smiles at them. When faced with
the whims of destiny, they always react with generosity, tolerance and joy. They are expansive people, who need to
explore new territories and continuously challenge themselves. In fact, many try to combine both hobbies. Sincere

continue scanning the horizon in search of new goals. They are serious and disciplined, and they need to do lots of
organizing and planning before making a move. They set long-term objectives and well-defined goals. They like to
know where they are going and why. Patient, cautious, and straightforward, they only worry about practical and

a single point of view. When they feel restricted, they rebel immediately. They hate to fall into routine. When that
inevitably happens, they make sure to mark out a radical and exciting change in their lives. They are passionate

the process. It is confiding, trustful, and easily led. Pisces serves and sacrifices itself others. At the same time,
one cannot hold or grasp Pisces. Pisces is fond of sensation and inclined to drift. It is a lover of peace, ease and
security. Pisces habitually lives in its feelings, not protecting them like them Cancer or Scorpio, but actually living
in the feeling world, as if the intangible were tangible. For Pisces, the intangible is tangible. For sensitive Pisces,
feelings are as real as any material substance; the spiritual world is as real as the physical. Pisces has extra-sensory
perception, and is attuned to a higher dimension (that the rest of us who lack that vision call "imagination").

and can be like a psychic sponge, absorbing all that is around you, for good or ill. You are very likeable, but you
need to learn how to be more practical and down-to-earth and how to concentrate your energies on the here and
now. You must serve others in this life, but must learn not to be taken advantage of or fall for everyone’s sob story.

2.2 Planetary Relationship

Four types of relationships between planets possible which are explaned below in the descending order of power.

1. Relationship through Exchange of Houses: When two planets are placed in such a way that both occupying
signs of each other as explaned in Fig. 2.2(a).

2. Relationship through Mutual Aspect: When two planets are placed in such a way that both are aspecting
each other as explained in Fig. 2.2(b).

3. Relationship through House Aspect: When two planets are placed in such a way that first planet is aspecting
the second planet which is placed in the sign owned by first planet as explained in Fig. 2.2(c).

4. Relationship through Conjunction: When two planets are placed together in a single house as explained in
Fig. 2.2(d).

2.2.1 What is difference between these relationships?

• Exchange: Planet A placed in the house of of planet B will say to B “If you dare to destroy my house, I will
destroy yours in return. So be within your limit.” Unlike mutual aspect, it is also kind of business relatinship
where fear dominate over mutual interest. Overall, it will bring goodness from both the planets and that is
why it is most sought relationship.

• Mutual Aspect: Both are aspecting each other and both will try to develop common interest. It is type
of business interests where cooperation, common gain will dominate between planets. Overall, it will bring
positivity of both the planets that is why it is second most sought relatinship.

• House Aspect: Planet A placed in a house HB owned by planet B and also B is aspecting own house HB. Planet
B is influencing A through sign and through its aspect, double way influence. Similarly, A is influencing B
through HB. Aspect of B on A will activate A’s qualites which are interesting to B. B has to provide influence
according to A’s demand otherwise A can destroy B’s house. Overall, it will develop regulated and governed
influence.

• Conjunction: Both planets placed in house will have infight resulting in winner and loser. Winner planet
will dominate the house and will have right to influence the significance and that is why it is least sought
relationship.

2.3 Classification of Signs

Between elements, qualities, and signs, there is only one combination of each, making each zodiac sign unique. For
example, there is only 1 cardinal fire sign, only 1 cardinal earth sign, only 1 cardinal air sign, etc. Nature of each
sign can be understood by examining these energetic combinations. Classification is tabulated in Table 2.2.

2.3.1 Elements
Fire Signs
The fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Fire signs respond to energy very quickly. They favor action. They’re
ready to go, take a risk, start a business, go on a trip, etc. They are confident, idealistic, intense, and approach life
with zest and enthusiasm. Here is energy to conquer, lead, and travel physically and mentally. Aries must act, Leo
must lead grandly, and Sagittarius explores unknown places and ideas.
Positive keywords: extroverted, energetic, enthusiastic, inspirational, visionary, high-spirited, simple and direct,
physically active, dramatic, courageous, warm.
Negative keywords: overly active to the point of burnout, restless, impatient, selfish, insensitive, willful, hasty,
lacking in perspective, thoughtless, impulsive, reckless, extravagant, wild.

Earth Signs
The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Earth signs are more cautious in their approach. They are
more practical, realistic, and they need solid footing before going forward. Taurus will dig the heels in and really
ponder things. Virgo will analyze. Capricorn will climb, but will do it with care, first needing a vision, a plan, an
organized structure before starting the ascent. Earth signs are dependable, thorough and solid. Earth signs seek to
engage the physical world and master it through efficient organization. Earth signs seek economic security, respect,
and prestige, and they work hard for it.

Air signs

The Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. Air signs approach energy mentally; they are thinkers. They
are social, always ready for a new relationship or friendship. They love learning, but bore easily. Gemini has
great intellectual curiosity, but too many personalities. Libra is partnership driven, but not in an emotional way.

and be nurtured. Scorpio has intense vision, never swaying, looking straight ahead with laser-like focus. Pisces is
the trickiest to describe. Pisces energy is chameleon-like, absorbing its surroundings.

2.4. CLASSIFICATION OF HOUSES 27

2.3.2 Qualities
Cardinal
Cardinal Signs are the most assertive, the most interested in initiating change. Their mode of activity is to start new
things. They easily begin things and respond well to new ideas. They are self-starters. Crisis motivates them. They
achieve control by remaining one step ahead of everyone else. Aries seeks leadership and control in general, Cancer
controls emotions, home, and family; Libra tries to control partnerships; Capricorn controls, uses, and exploits the
material environment. For Cardinal signs, things are always happening. This is usually because they are doing the
starting.

Fixed
Fixed Signs are the most stable and self-contained. Their mode of activity is sort of passive, yet determined,
unwavering, and even stubborn. Their strength is their consistency and loyalty. They follow things through to the
end, managing and sustaining what has been started by the Cardinal signs. They may go to denial in times of
change. They are very resistant to change, needing to take time to prep themselves. They tend to be late: Taurus is
just slow; Scorpio uses tardiness as a subtle power struggle; Leo enjoys making an entrance; Aquarius wants things
on their own terms. Late, but once there, they stay forever.

Mutable
Mutable Signs are the most unstable and most open to influence by the environment. Their mode of activity is to
make the transition from the old to the new, opening the way for the Cardinal Signs to begin a new cycle. They
are infinitely flexible and tolerant. They find it naturally easy to let go. Whereas Cardinal signs begin new things,
and Fixed signs sustain things, Mutable energy loosens structures and adapts it to new and changing conditions.
With this territory comes mental worry. Mutable signs have many things going on in their heads rather than in
tangible form. Many react by making lists. Some suffer from negative mental tension, involving fear, paranoia,
and panic attacks. In anticipating negative outcomes, they really suffer during the worry process. But their high
adaptability always sees them through. Gemini is changeable in its ideas; Virgo is dominated by its environment;
Sagittarius has a continually changing view of life’s possibilities; Pisces adapts itself superficially to its environment
(like a chameleon) and reflects it like a mirror. Sometimes they compromise so much that they sacrifice their own
interests.

2.4 Classification of Houses

As explained in Fig. 2.3, houses are auspicious such as Lagn, Kendr, and Trikon; inauspicious such as Nidhan, Trik,
Trishaday; can be neutral such as Sambhav. As explained in Fig. 2.4 houses are divided in four Trikons; Bhagy
Trikon, Karm Trikon, Labh Trikon, and Vyay Trikon in Green, Blue, Red, and Black colour respectively. Houses 1,
4, 7, and 10 are known as Kendr. Depending on different issued faced by Jatak, houses signifies varied aspect given
in Table 2.3

2.5 Observations regarding Houses and Signs

There are some important observations regarding houses

1. Kendra is having single quality composed of each element while trikon is single element composed of each
quality.

2. Kendr is balanced having equal representation of enemies and friendly planet signs.

3. Char lagns are Mahayogkarak because each sign is exaltation and debilitation sign of some planet, thus
creating an opportunity of Panchmahapurush yog and Neechbhang Rajyog.

4. Signs belong to Sthir lagns are own signs of some planet and contains exalted-debilitated signs of Moon.

5. Trikon always belong to Lagnesh’s friendly planets.

6. Saptmesh is enemy of lagnesh irrespective of Lagn.

2.6 Panchadha Maitri

There are friend, neutral and enemy relationship between planets known as natural relationships while planets
placed in 2,3,4,12,11,10 houses with respect to the planet placed in house number 1 becomes instant friends to the
planet placed in house number 1. Combine natural and instantaneus relationship between planets creates five types
of relationship known as Panchadha Maitri given in Table 2.5. This relationship is useful in understanding effect
in Vinshottari Dasha.

2.7 Vinshottari Dasha

Vinshottari dasha can be used without any condition while for Ashtottari dasha two conditions must be satisfied;
Rahu should be placed at 4,5,7,9,10 from Lagnesh and birth should be either in night time of Shukl Paksh or day
time of Krushn Paksh. Dasha begins with the starlord in which Moon is placed. Entire star has 13o 200 , that is
eqivalent to 13X60 + 20 = 8000 , of total duration which can be correspond to Mahadasha year of stars as explained
in Table 2.6. The degrees already lapsed are known as Bhukt Dasha and yet to come known as Bhogy Dasha. It is
can be explained through an example. At the time of birth, Moon is placed at 9o 400 in Cancer sign. From column

2 of Table 2.7, it falls in second Charan of Pushy star which is ruled by Saturn as evident from column 10 of Table
2.7, indicates Vinshottari Dasha begin with Saturn. Elapsed minutes are 6X60 + 20 = 3800 and remaining minutes
are 800 − 380 = 4200 while, from Table 2.6, total 19X12 = 228 months is the duration of Saturn dasha. Bhukt and
Bhogy dashas are calculated below.
Bhukt Dasha : 380X228
800 = 108.3 months
Bhogy Dasha : 420X228800 = 119.7 months
If the birthdate is 12 December 1984 then Jatak will have Saturn Bhogy Dasha of 119.7 (9 years, 11 months
and 21 days) months up to 3 December 1994 followed by Mercury, Ketu, etc Mahadasha in order. Antardasha and
Pratyantardasha can be calculated as explained in Table 2.8.

Table 2.6: Planets and their years of Maha Dasha

Planet Ketu Venus Sun Moon Mars Rahu Jupiter Saturn Mercury
Year 7 20 6 10 7 18 16 19 17

Dasha years for each planet is given in Table 2.6. Multiplication of planet MD and MD of antardasha planet,
divide this by 10 gives Antardasha in months while this Antardasha in months multiplied by MD years of Pratyan-
tardasha planet, divided by 4 gives Pratyantardasha in days. This can be explained for Mars Mahadasha, Mars
Antardasha, and Mars Pratyantardasha in Table 2.8

2.8 Astakvarg
This technique is used to check if transition of planet from particular sign or house will be beneficial or not. Table
2.9 gives details of the signs from particular planet on which transition will be auspicious.

Chapter 3

Foundation of Prediction

Objective of this chapter is to understand combinations described in Section 3.1 followed by acquiring capabilities to
interprete planetary positions, interplanetary relations, and inter house relations explained in Section 3.2. Recalling
three key elements of astrology namely planet, sign, and house, as explained in Fig. 2.1, can be arranged in three
different ways in the pair of two, PP, SS, HH is not possible because same element can’t influence itself. SP and PS

Table 3.1: Combination between important elements of Kundli

Planet Sign House
Planet PP PS PH
Sign SP SS SH
House HP HS HH

are same, HP and PH are same, SH and HS are same, leaving three options; planet in sign, planet in house, and
sign in house. Houses are fixed, planets are moving while signs are moving with respect to earth. Aim in Jyotish
is to find net effect of House with planets and signs placed in it. Planet can influence house but can’t influence
sign. Sign is the fundamental element which influences house and planet both. Strength of planet, type of sign,
and type of house need to be understand. Exalted, mooltrikon, own sign, Yuva, benefic, strong lord of the house
are desirable for good effect. At planetary and sign level, four types of relations need to be understand to analyse
net outcome of the house.
1. Effect dut to relationship between planets; exchange, mutual aspect, house aspect, and conjunction.
2. Effect due to planet in sign.
3. Effect due to planet in house.
4. Effect due to sign in house.
5. Effect due to strength of lord of house as strong lord of the house saves from bad affliction.
Mathematically, net effect of house can be represent in the form of equation as below

Net effect on house= Effect due to conjunction + Effect due to planet in house+
Effect due to planet in sign + effect due to sign in house + Position of lord of house (3.1)

Planet Influence
Plaets are representative of sing which is placed in house. Health of house and significance of the particular house
can be understand if situation, position, strength, weakness of the planet is known. One of the aim of this chapter
is to understand this planet’s postion. Signs and houses are fixed and houses makes relationships through their
representatives, planets. Analysis will be easier if net Planet Influence is understood, as given below.
1. Relative planet. Advantage if friendly or neutral planets are relative planet.
2. Starlord in which planet is placed. Advantage if friendly or neutral planets are starlod.

33
34 CHAPTER 3. FOUNDATION OF PREDICTION

3. Planets placed in stars owned by planet. Disadvantage if enemy planets are occupying stars owned by planet.

4. Planets occupying houses owned by planet. Advantage if friendly planets are occupying houses ruled by
planet. If enemy planet occupy the house, planet’s attention will be always towards protecting own house
first and can’t do any constructive.

5. Owner of the house. If owner of the house is frendly planet and strong e.g. exalted, own sign, mooltrikon,
friendly sign, advantageous to planet.

6. Planets aspecting houses owned by planet. Malefic aspect can destroy house and in return planet can’t focus
on construction as worrying about own house.

3.1 How to understand effects?

There are three basic things to be understood.

1. As shown in Fig. 3.1(a), Venus signifies love and Rahu illusion, hidden desire, unboundness. Combination
of both creates desire for love with illusion, resulting in illusion of love, that is lust. Such type of analysis is
given in most of classical texts e.g. Saravali, Bruhatjatak.

2. As shown in Fig. 3.1(b), Rahu amplifies the significance of house, conjunction. Placed in third house, which
belong to younger siblings, makes someone youngest sibling, thus amplifying the effect of house. Such type of
‘planet in house’ analysis is given in Brugu Sutr.

3. As shown in Fig. 3.1(c), Sagittarius, being mooltrikon sign of Jupiter, signifies religion and spirituality. Being
debilitated sing of Rahu, its placement there makes someone atheist or religion hater. Such type of ‘planet in
sign’ analysis is given in Chapter 16 of Bruhatjatak.

Figure 3.1: Consideration at planetary level

One such set of interpretation is given below with reference to different planets placed in seventh house.

1. Sun: good administrator, short tempered, kind hearted, spouse who respect God and Brahman.

2. Moon: mentally beautiful spouse, caring, loving, soft spouse.

3. Venus: physically beautiful spouse, luxurious spouse.

4. Mars: ill tempered, anger, quarrelsome spouse.

5. Mercury: young looking, good humored, beautiful speech spouse.

6. Jupiter: chaste, pious, religious, wise spouse.

7. Saturn: lazy, looking older than actual age, widow/wodower, secrete, mature, spouse.

8. Rahu: false speaker, illusionist, deceptive spouse.

9. Ketu: Vairagi, nonmaterialistic spouse.

3.1. HOW TO UNDERSTAND EFFECTS? 35

3.1.1 Planetary Relationship

Relationship between friendly planet is beneficial while between enemy planet isn’t advisable e.g. two enemy planets
placed in house means both will have infight and nothing productive going to be happen while two friendly planets
placed inside house are going to do productive work. It can be interpreted in two different ways.

Planetary Level
Personality of jatak can be combined effect of relative planet. It can be understand via Rahu’s conjunction with
different planets. Rahu is significator of hidden desires, short cuts, foreign, amplification, unboundness, illusion. Its
association with other planets is explained in Table 3.2

Table 3.2: Effect of Rahu’s conjunction with different planetts

After considering signification of planets given in Table 2.1, interpretations for some of the conjuncting planets
are given below,
1. Jupiter signifies education and learning while Saturn signifies justice. Relationship between both make person
expert in law.
2. Mars signifies efforts, energy and Venus love. Relationship between both indicate spending energy for love
leading person to be flirtious.
3. Venus signifies love and Saturn signifies loneliness, maturity. Relationship between both make person build
secret relationship with older partner.
36 CHAPTER 3. FOUNDATION OF PREDICTION

4. Mars signifies blood, surgery, engineering and Saturn signifies hard work, dedication, activities suitable to
leatherman. Relationship between both make person expertise in medical field or in research field.

5. Mars signifies effort, energy and Moon signifies beauty, money, property. Relationship between both make
person spend time on own appearance hence beautifu and person will put up effort in earning so become
wealthy.

6. Ketu signifies occult science, religious study. Placed in ninth or twelfth house develop interest in vairagy.

Following points to be remembered from Table 3.2

• In which house they are conjuncting. Conjunction of malefic planets is desirable in Trishaday or Trik.

• In which sign they are conjuncting. Conjunction in benefic signs is desirable for auspicious result. Best result
will be obtained if the sign is friendly to both, medium result if neutral sign, worst result if enemy sign
provided lord of sign(enemy planet) is weak.

• A planet belong to particular nature become strong in sign belong to particular nature e.g. Mars is strong in
fire signs.

• Which planets are aspecting the conjunction. Aspect from benefic planet will bring out auspiciousness.

• In which star they are placed. Fruitfull star, both placed in the stars rulled by same star is desirable.

• Planets conjuncting means significations of planets are combining.

• Position of the lord of house.

• Relationship of both conjuncting planet with lord of the house.

• Age of planet. Yuva planet will dominate Baal, Vruddh, Mrut planet.

• Along with own houses, planet influences the houses ruled by conjunct planet.

House Level
Planets rule houses, thus they are representatives of respective houses. Relation between both planets indicate
houses are making relationship with each other. Few interpretation,

• Relationship between Kendresh and Trikonesh is Rajyog.

• Relationship between Dhanesh and Bhagyesh means Bhagyalaxmi yog.

• Relationship betwee Dhanesh and Labhesh means Mahalaxmi yog.

• Relationship between Dhanesh and Sukhesh is Dhanlaxmi yog.

• Relationship between Shastesh, Ashtmesh, and Vyayesh is Vipreet Rajyog.

• Relationship between Bhagyesh and Panchmesh is Sarasvati yog.

• Relationship between Saptmesh and Vyayesh means separation from wife or foreign wife.

Case Studies: Planetary Relationships

Conjunction of planets means conjunction of their signification while aspect means a common quality between
aspect and aspectee being nourished. Jupiter signifies educaiton and learning while Mercury signifies intelligence.
Relationship between both indicate research ability. As shown in Figs. 3.2(a), 3.2(b), and 3.2(c) Jupiter and
Mercury are conjuncting leading them to earn Ph.D. degrees.

3.1.2 Planet in Sign

Such analysis is given in Chapter 16 of Brihatjatak. Planet placed in enemy sign going to destroy the house where
it is placed. Planet in friend sign is going to enhance effect of the house where it is placed.

Figs. 3.3(a) and 3.3(b) belong to husband and wife who doesn’t have child 13 years after marriage. Fifth house
deals with progeny which is afflicted in both spouse. With husband’s fifth house, malefic planet Rahu placed
in semifruitful Taurus sign while with wife’s fifth house, malefic Sun placed in fifth house in barren sign Virgo.
Considering position of lord of houses; in husband Panchmes has gone to Nidhanbhav while for wife Panchmesh is
combust, both Venus and Mercury incapable to resist malefic effect. Considering aspect, malefic Rahu is aspecting
fifth house in wife chart. There were two miscarriages.

3.1.3 Planet in House

Such analysis is given in Brugu Sutr and Chapter 30 of Saravali. It is desirable malefic planet placed in trik
or trishaday houses. Planets signifies characteristics. Particular issue related to a house activates when planet’s
signification and house signification unites.

Case Studies: Planet in House

Jatak-1 is spiritual and lost interest from social life despite being having two children. Spirituality and religion
belong to house nine while Vairagya is indicated by Saturn and Ketu. Jatak-1 in Fig. 3.4(a) has Ketu placed in
9th house and Navmesh Saturn placed in another Trikon. Ketu signifies religion, occult while ninth house signifies
religious, faith, spirituality. Unafflicted Ketu caused Vairagya in jatak’s mind while Saturn Ketu both mutually
aspecting with Dvipaad drashti as they are in triangle. Jatak-1 came back to normalcy and currently regular visitor
and daily Agnohotr in nearby temple. Aspect from none of the planet made Ketu to develop its natural quality of
Vairagy which fuelled as it is placed in the house belong to spirituality. Jatak-2 became widow six months after
marriage. House sevel deals with marital issues. Significator of husband for female, Mars, also Saptmesh in her

chart, is placed in tweldfth house belong to enemy sign, which deals with loses. Checking condition of lord of
house, it is afflicted with Sun and Ketu which is incapable of saving his house. Significator of husband and also
being Saptmesh Mars placed in Vyay bhav, weak and afflicted Vyayesh, caused her loss of husband. Malefic planets
placed in houses give negative effect. Jatak-3 in Fig. 3.4(c) underwent a major operation and succumbed to two
accidents. Eighth house deals with accidents, operations etc problems. Mars, significator of accidents, surgeries is
placed in the house belong to accidents, death, and operations. The house is ruled by Mars’ enemy Venus which
is exalted but placed in another Trik house and afflicted with Rahu, enemies Jupiter and Moon. Significator of
accident, operation Mars placed in Nidhanbhav belong to enemy sign, with weak enemy gave Mars free hand to

3.1.4 Sign in House

Along with house, sign is basic element, both together influence planet. Each sign is unique e.g. Aries is the only
cardinal and fire sign, Leo is the only fixed and fire sign, Sagittarius is the only mutable and fire sign. Fire signs are
violent and placed in ninth house indicate aggressive devout. Earth signs are practical and placed in ninth house
indicate affirm devout. Air signs are propagative and placed in ninth house indicate religious preacher. Water signs
are soft, sober, caring and placed in ninth house indicate priest, spiritual guru.
Placement of fire planet, such as Mars, in these signs will give different characteristics of jatak.
1. Frequent angry if Mars placed in mutable fire sign Sagittarius.
2. Comparatively stable if Mars placed in fixed fire sign Leo.
3. Higly volatile and angry if Mars placed in cardinal fire sign Aries.
Above effects will be intensified if combination occurs in lagn. Similarly, fire planet Mars, significator of sexuality,
will give different effect if placed in water signs which are enemy to fire signs.
1. Sexually cold if placed in cardinal water sign Cancer as it is debilitated sign for Mars. Jatak can be faithful
if Moon is exalted.
2. Sexually stable, entertaining, passionate, if placed in fixed water sign Scorpio, which is ruled by Mars and
represent sexuality in Kalpurush kundli.
3. Sexually changing partners if placed in mutable water sign Pisces. Person can be sex pervert and fond of of
wild sex if Jupiter is in debilitated, afflicted, enemy sign.
These effects will be intensified if combination occur in eighth house. Similarly, it can be interpreted for Venus
which is significator for love.
1. Unstable lover if placed in cardinal and water sign Cancer, which enemy sign to Venus. Unstableness will
reduce if Moon is exalted.
2. Stable lover if placed in fixed and water sign Scorpio. A person will be most stable if Venus is placed in Taurus
as it is fixed ans own sign. Person can be lustful if Mars is placed at exalted, mooltrikon, own sign.
3. Changing partners, over indulgance in sex, intense lover, if placed in mutable water sign Pisces which is exalted
sign for Venus. Person can be adultarous if Jupiter is placed in debilitated, afflicted, enemy sign.
3.2. SUMMARY: HOW TO INTERPRETE PLANETARY PLACEMENT? 39

Case Studies: Sign in House

Character of sign influences the house in which it is placed. Jatak’s luck activates in late life when Prushthoday
sign is placed in Karm bhav. Movable sign in Karm bhav indicate jatak will have transfering job. Physical structure
of jatak will depend on the sign placed in lagn. As shown in Fig. 3.5, Jatak-1 has Scorpio in ascendant which is,
from Table 2.2, long sign. Similarly Jatak-2 has Aquarius sign in ascendant, which is short sign according to same
table. Apart from this no other planets are aspecting the lagn. In absence of any planet aspect, physical structure
of the jatak will be defined based on sign placed in lagn. Jatak-1 is 5’10" long while Jatak-2 is 5’0" long. Jatak-3
has barren and long sign Leo placed in fifth house. This led Jatak to have problem in childbirth for longer time
duration. Child was conceived 11 years after marriage. It survived because Panchmesh Sun is placed in natural
auspicious house Tritrikon and also it is Harshit along with lagnesh and natural benefic Jupiter are aspecting fifth
house.

Figure 3.6: Interpreting different placements of planets

1. As shown in Fig. 3.6(a), lagnesh is placed in random house, here it is sixth house. Sixth house belong to
enemies, debts, loans, diseases. Lagnesh, representative of Jatak himself, placed there indicate Jatak himself
going to enemies and don’t allow them to enter in his personal life.

2. As shown in Fig. 3.6(b), Shasthesh, representative of enemy, placed in Lagn indicate enemies, debts are
coming to Jatak’s personal life and disturbing his whole personality. If Jatak has taken loan, such placement
40 CHAPTER 3. FOUNDATION OF PREDICTION

indicate it can disturb his personality and he can be frustrated due to debts. Due to this there are chances he
may lose his mental balance provided Moon is weak. If Shasthesh going to any other house, it means Jatak’s
enemies going there and disturbing signification of that house. Suppose Shasthesh placed in Labhsthan which
belong to reputation, friends. Shasthesh placed there indicate destruction of Jatak’s reputation, disputes with
friends due to debts or loans.
3. As shown in Fig. 3.6(c), Shasthesh placed in sixth house itself, this indicate ruler of house is present inside to
resolve Jatak’s issues related to sixth house. Jatak need not to pay much attention for that hosue as his man
is sitting there to manage it on behalf of him. Jatak can spend that saved energy in managing other houses.
Similalry, one can interprete placement of planets in different houses. A set of such placements is given below with
reference to sevent house and Saptmesh.

Lords in Seventh house

1. Lagnesh in seventh house indicate intense love for spouse.
2. Dhanesh in seventh house indicate fortune will come after marriage.
3. Parakramesh in seventh house indicate god fearing and good character spouse.
4. Sukhesh in seventh house indicate working spouse, property gain through spouse.
5. Panchmesh in seventh house indicate love marriage.
6. Shastesh in seventh house indicate native will incure debt through spouse, existence of differences.
7. Ashtmesh in seventh house indicate fortune will come after marriage.
8. Bhagyesh in seventh house indicate courageous spouse.
9. Karmesh in seventh house indicate spouse will be rich and fortunate.
10. Labhesh in seventh house indicate affectionate towards children, favous spouse.
11. Vyayesh in seventh house indicate sick and frequent fighting spouse.

Saptmesh in Different Houses

1. Lagn: native will be dependant, attached to spouse.
2. Dhanbhav: sick spouse, accusing, humiliating spouse.
3. Parakrambhav: spiritualy inclined spouse.

Divisional Charts

Different divisional charts represent particular aspect of application as explained in Table 4.1. Divisional charts have
usage in Muhurt. According to Narad Sanhita, Hora is stronger than rising sign, Dreskan is stronger than Hora,
Navansh is stronger than Dreskan, Dvadashansh is stronger than Navansh, Trishansh is stronger than Dvadashansh.
Any Muhurt having strong D30, D12, D9, D3, and D2 is considered as auspicious. Above sisteen divisional charts

known as Shodasvarg and theier examination is necessary to understand different facets of life. Three methos
available to understand divisional charts.

4.1 Method 1
1. Identify a planet to be considered for study.

2. Note down its position in sign and house. Call the sign as janm lagn sign and janm lagn house.

3. Note down the sign occupied by planet in divisional chart. Call it divisional chart sign.

41
42 CHAPTER 4. DIVISIONAL CHARTS

4. In janm lagn, house number 1 to 12 (which are occupied by 12 signs) are known as Lagnansh, Dhanansh,
Vikransh, Sukhansh, Putransh, Shastansh or Rogansh, Bharyansh, Nidhanansh, Bhagyansh, Karmansh, Lab-
hansh, Vyayansh.

5. Check where divisional chart sign is placed in janm lagn.

6. It is good if divisional chart sign placed in Kendr or Trikon of janm lagn e.g. Lagnansh, Sukhansh, Bharyansh,
Karmansh, Putransh, and Bhagyansh.

7. It is not good if divisional chart sign placed in Nidhanansh, Shastiansh, Vyayansh or any Trishadayansh.

8. Identify the signs aspected by planet in both janm lagn and divisional chart. This means planet has influence
on these signs.

4.2 Method 2
1. Identify a planet to be considered for study.

2. Note down its position in sign and house. Call it ’planet lagn sign’.

3. Note down the sign occupied by planet in divisional chart. Call it ’planet divisional chart sign’.

4. Calculate position of planet divisional chart sign from planet lagn sign.

5. It is good if planet divisional chart sign placed at Kendr or Trikon from planet lagn sign. Suppose a planet
is in Aries in janm lagn and is placed in Capricorn in divisional chart, this indicate that planet has influence
on Karm of the jatak for the application of particular divisional chart.

6. It is not good if planet divisional chart sign placed at eighth, sixth, twelfth, third, eleventh from planet lagn
sign.

7. Identify the signs aspected by planet in both janm lagn and divisional chart. This means planet has influence
on these signs.

4.3 Method 3
1. Identify a planet to be considered for study.

2. Note down its position in sign and house.

3. Note down sign occupied by planet in divisional chart. Call it divisional chart sign.

4. Calculate the position of divisional chart sign from janm lagn.

5. It is good if divisional chart sign belong to Kendr or Trikon of janmang chakr.

6. It is not good if divisional chart sign belong to Ayubhav, Trishaday, or Vyaybhay e.g. for Aries ascendant,
seventh lord is in Libra in janmang chakr and placed in Pisces in Navansh, it indicate jatak will spend money
on life partner.

4.4 What to Observe in Divisional Chart?

1. Position of D1 lagnesh and lord of the house in D1 in respective divisional chart e.g. for Aries ascendant check
condition of Mars and Saturn in D10 to know about work. Good if placed in Kendr or Trikon.

2. Condition of lagnesh of divisional chart and lord of the particular house e.g. for Aries ascendant in D10 chart
good position of Mars and Saturn indicate stable professional career. Good if placed in Kendr or Trikon.

3. Rajyog present in divisional chart indicate overall good chart.

4.5. NAVMANSH 43

4. Sun is the Atma. Sun should be examined first to assess the quality of soul. Placement of Sun in sign,
association and aspect on it, house occupied by sun from lagn. Associatoin with benefic sign, planets, house
indicate good soul.

5. Moon, significator of mind, should not be afflicted.

6. Lagnesh, Trutiyesh, Shastesh, Navmesh of birth chart should be analysed in divisional chart. Afflicted and
malefic lords indicate strong willed person.

7. Lord of any house in D1 going to sign of benefic planets such as Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, is considered as
good.

8. Mercury signifies intelligence. Afflicted Mercury gives criminal tendencies. Afflicted Mercury along with
afflicted Moon gives birth to criminal mindset.

9. Jupiter signifies education. Afflicted Jupiter indicate problem in education.

10. Saturn indicate servant. Strong Saturn indicate support from servant.

11. Fourth house indicate happiness from particular divisional chart. Afflicted house and afflicted Chaturthesh
doesn’t give proper happiness.

4.5 Navmansh
Among all the divisional charts, navansh has special place because, being division of Bhagy, it indicates luck, fate,
fortune for jatak. A division of sign, having 30o , in nine equal parts, each being of 3o 200 , is known as Navansh. It
is also known as Bhagyansh. Those divisions are tabulated in Table 4.2.

4.5.1 Houses in Navansh

Houses in Navansh can be interpreted as

1. House 1: Lagn of Navansh is major consideration for marriage. Strong lagn and lagnesh gives marriage.

2. House 2: Effect on wealth and family relationships due to marriage.

3. House 3: Imagination, intuitiveness, dedication towards marriage.

4.5.2 What to Observe?

Following things can be observed in Navansh.

1. Identify the house based on query by jatak.

2. Chekc position of lord of house.

3. Check condition of planet placed in house. Check postion of significator of house.

4. Go to divisional chart for respective sign placed in house and check where the sign is placed in Navansh.

5. Check the condition of occupant planet in Navansh. Best if planet is placed in exalted sign, good if in own
sign.

6. Where it is placed in Navansh? Not good if placed in Trishaday, or Trik e.g. For Aries lagn, Mars placed in
Aries in janmang chakr and placed in Virgo in Navansh because Virgo is Trik sign in janmang chark.

7. Where the planet is placed in Navansh from its natal sign e.g. for Aries lagn Venus is in Taurus, and placed
in Virgo in Navansh, then it has moved to fifth place and from lagn it has moved to sixth place. Fifth means
Trikon and sixth means Trik indicate Venus is going to give mix effect.

8. Check planet’s placeme;nt in Navansh. It is good if placed in Kendr or Trikon in Navansh.

9. Check which planets are aspecting planet in Navansh. Afflicted planet is not good.

10. Analyse Navansh as separate Kundli. Check position of Navansh lagnesh.

11. Apply same guidelines for lord of the house.

12. Good if exalted ansh, own ansh, benefic planet ansh, at Trikon in Navansh, no malefic association, Navansh
sign belong to Kendr or Trikon in janmang chakr.

13. Apply same procedure fo significator of the house.

14. It is beneficial if planet is placed in Navansh in the signs of benefic planets.

15. It is beneficial if in Navansh planet is placed in signs placed in Kendr or Trikon in janmang chakr.

Case Study: Analysing Navansh

A table can be created based on various methods explained to analyse divisional chart. Such table is created for
Navansh. D1 and D9 of jatak are given in Fig. 4.1 while Navansh report is given in Table 4.3.

• Saptmesh Tritrikonesh mutually aspecting eachother give Parasari Rajyog.

• Panchmesh Karmesh mutually aspecting each other give Parasari Rajyog.
• Lagnesh going to own ansh in Navansh and placed in Kendr in D1 and D9, placed at Trik according to all
the three methods hence not good. Panchmesh going to own ansh in Navansh and placed in Kendr in D1,
D9. Placed at Trikon according to all the three methods hence auspicious. Bhagyesh is Vargottami making
it good.
• Ninth and eighth house signifies research. Bhagyesh Jupiter is Vargottami and placed in eighth house.
• Saturn signifies deep research and is exalted, placed in Jupiter ansh, significator of education.
• Fifth house indicate intelligence, memory power.
• Panchmesh aspecting Saturn.
• Lagnesh gone to own ansh, making it stronger.
• Mercury signifies calculation, mathematics. It has gone to Saturn ansh, placed at Kendr and Trikon according
to all the three methods, hence auspicious.
• Lagnesh, Panchmesh, Ashtmesh, Bhagyesh, Mercury, Saturn are auspicious and making relationships with
eighth and ninth house giving success in research.
• Venus is in Papkartari, gone to debilitated ansh in Navansh.
To sum up, Mercury, significator of intelligence going to Karmansh ruled by Saturn which signifies hard work indicate
jatak channelised intelligence in hard working. Saturn itself going to Bhagyansh, Jupiter ansh which is significator of
education and also Vargottami. Exalted Saturn mutually aspecting Svagruhi Mars indicate enginering. Intelligence,
hardwork spent in engineering education reaping jatak acquire doctorate degree in engineering. Debilitated Venus
caused marital issues.

4.5.3 Is Vargottami an equivalent of exalted?

Many literature and researchers suggest Vargottami planet is equivalent to exalted and gives result as exalted.
Technically speaking both are different. A planet has two types of qualites; micro, nonvisible, nontangible and
macro, visible, tangible. Personality, nature etc are micro qualites while material, wealth are macro qualities. It
is common tendency of living creature not to give up nature even in compromising or weak positions e.g. lion is
violent animal and will remain violent even when he is wounded. Similar is the case with planet. Planets have
both positivity and negativity. Exaltation is powerful position and debilitation is weak position. Exalted planet is
capable of delivering both positivity and negativity while debilitated planet is capable of delivering negativity only.
Fig. 4.2 belong to a boy. His Venus is debilitated but Vargottami. If researches are followed, he must have happy

Figure 4.2: DOB: 3 November 1993, TOB: 22:45, 70E57 22N37

married life as Venus is significator of marital life for boy. Reality is different. His wife is bed ridden since one week
after marriage. However, he receives vehicles, business contracts etc from his father in law. Debilitated Venus has
surely destroyed his marital life, a micro quality of Venus, but Vargottami Venus has bestowed him wealth, vehicle
etc macro benifits.

4.5.4 Pushkar Navansh

It has reference in Shloks 1.2699, 1.2737, and 2.79 of Deva Keralam. Each sign has two pushkar navansh giving
total 24. These are benefic navansh and owned by benefic planets Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Moon. Table 4.4 is
derived from combined Table 2.7 and details of pushkar navansh. They are special areas of a sign and any planet
placed in this area gets its qualities enhanced. Placemet if pushkar navansh enhances the signification of planet
e.g Jupiter, significator of wealth, placed in pushkar navansh and the sign occupied by Jupiter in navansh falls in
Kendr or Trikon of birht chart then the person may be very wealth. In case it is sixth, eighth or twelfth, then alsong
with wealth, it gives disease, separation.Planets in pushkar naanshare benefic and produced favourable tesults in
Muhurt also. A database derived from Table 4.2 and Table 4.4 is created in Table 4.5. Vargottami Navansh are

in bold fonts while pushkar navansh are in red colour fonts. There are only three navansh which are pushkar and
vargottami both. Nineth in Saggitarius, fifth in Taurus, ans first in Cancer, printed as red colour and bold fonts.
Among pushkar and vargottami navansh, these are very auspicious. Among these three, fifth in Taurus is most
auspicious because planet placed in that degree is yuva and will give best result unlike other two which are Mrut.
Four time measuring minutes equals to one degree, making a navansh approximately 12 (3o 200 X4) minutes long.
A lagn lasts for approximately 120 minutes (30o 000 X4) which includes two pushkar navansh of 12 minutes each.
Any event, inaugurated in pushkar vargottami navansh, and that falling in lagn of navansh, completed within 12
minutes, is highly auspicious Muhurt.

Case Study: Application of Puskar Navansh

Unlike birth where Kundli already planned and supplied by God, Muhurt is an event where human can design Kundli
of any event. Human has flexibility to inaugurate event on favourable planetary positions. A couple approached
an astrologer to suggest a time when to set up a Kumbh at their newly constructed house. Lagn is life, Moon is
mind and Tithi and Nakshatr are body of Muhurt. Moon is like seed, Lagn is like flower, Navansh is like fruit, and
twelve houses are the tastes of Muhurt. Vruddhgarg has said if auspiciousness is represented as points then Tithi
4.5. NAVMANSH 49

should get 1 point, Nakshatra should get 4 points, Weekday shoudl get 8 points, Moon should get 100 points, and
Lagn shoudl get 1000 points. After calculations 19 April 2019, between 8:38 to 8:50 was prefered time for Kumbh
Sthapan. Reaching at this time is explained below along with elaboration on each elements of Muhurt.

Tithi
It is Poornima on 19 April 2019. Poornima has special status in Muhurt because Sun, significator of Aatma,
and Moon, significator of Mann, are mutually aspecting each other. Other such combination occurs on Astami
and Navami where both are at triangle aspecting each other with Dvipaad Drashti. Sun and Moon are the two
important planets which affect the living on earth the most e.g. seasons, tides etc. Also, spiritual power released
by Aatma and received by Mann on Poornima is at its peak because both Sun and Moon are mutually aspecting
each other. Also, Moon is ruling deity of Poornima hence it is very auspicious.

Nakshatr
Wife born in Uttarbhadrapad while husband born in Svati. Nakshatra on 19 April 2019 was Chitra upto 19:30 and
Svati thereafter. Chitra is friendly to Svati and unfriendly to Uttarbhadrapad. After checking Tarabalam on 19
April 2019 the time was favourable for husband.

Weekday
It was Friday on 19 April 2019. Friday belong to Venus which is, according to Varahmihir, natural auspicious
planet.

Moon
On Poornima, Moon has 100% potential hence it is auspicious on that day. It was Poornima on 19 April 2019.

Choghadiya
Chau+Ghati gives Choghadiya which literary means four Ghatis. This type of Muhurt are widely used in Gujarat
and Maharashtr. In this system of Muhurt a day is divided in 8 equal parts each part of 3.75(approximately 4
Ghati) Ghati length. Each Ghati is 24 time measuring minutes long giving roughly one and half hour of time span.
On Friday Labh Choghadiya falls between 7:55 to 9:29. This time period is auspicious.

Hora
Hora are toal 30 in a day. Since it was Poornima, Chandr Hora will be considered as most auspicious. Chandr Hora
begun at 8:26 and end at 9:29 on 19 April 2019.

Ascendant
Beginning with using Tithi to arrive at a day as auspicious Muhurt, it ended up in identifying an hour. Slowly
the auspicious and precise time of 6 minutes will be arrived after using election ascendant. As discussed in Section
4.5.4, fifth Navansh in Taurus is Vargottami and Puskar. Also, the degree at that Navansh is Yuva which gives
best result. Taurus ascendant was from 7:52 to 9:51. From Table 4.5 Vargottami Pushkar Navansh in Taurus
is from 13o 200 − 16o 400 which approximately commence from 7 : 52 + (13o X4) = 8 : 44hour. Considering local
time at Ahmedabad, it begun at 8:38 untill 8 : 38 + (3o X4) = 8 : 50. Considering delay and calculation error,
Muhurt timing suggest was between 8:40 to 8:46. As explained in beginning of this chapter D30>D12>D9>D3>D2.
Relevant divisional charts are given in Fig. 4.3 below. It is seen lagnesh is exalted in D1 and gone to Labhsthan,
gone to Kendr Sukhansh in Navansh, gone to own sign in Trishansh. Bhuvnesh is exalted, gone to Kendr in
Navansh. Other auspicious planets Mercury is in Neechbhang Rajyog and gone to exalted in Navansh, own sign in
Dvadashansh, exalted in Trishansh. Jupiter is in own sign and gone to Aries in Navansh. Moon is Vargottami in
Navansh, Dvadashansh. Since Labhyog and Neechbhang Rajyog present in D1 a monetary benefit was expected.
Soon after Kumbhsthapan, within 5 days, couple got housing subsidy sanctioned from govt, wife got increment in
salary.

4.5.5 Marriage and Match Making

Primarily Navansh is analysed for marital life. Though Ashtkut milan is widely used as matchmaking, there are
some techniques are available for matchmaking.
1. Note Saptmesh of navansh of one partner.

2. See its placement in the Navansh of other partner.

3. Badly placed and afflicted Saptmesh is not good.
4. Benefic association safeguards marriage.
5. Repeat procedure for other partner.

6. Placement and association in both way is good match.

Multiple marriages are possible in following cases
1. If Lagnesh is exalted, own sign, retrograde, placed in Kendra, Trikon, or eleventh house.

2. Malefic association with seventh house.

3. Presence of Dhanyoga e.g. Dhanesh in Dhanbhav, Dhanesh Labhesh relationship, Dhanesh Bhagyesh rela-
tionship.
4. Dhanesh, Saptmesh, Vyayesh in placed in Upchay bhavs.

5. Saptmesh in Papkartari or placed at Marak sthans.

Predicting Event: Divisional Chart, Dasha,

Transit

People ask three types of questions to Jyotish.

1. What is my overall future? This can be answered through analysing Janmlagn explained in first three chapters
of this book.
2. How I am going to do in particular aspect e.g. earning, religious, marriage in my life? This can be answered
by conjuncture interpretation of Janmlagn and relevant divisional chart as explained in fourth chapter of this
book.
3. At specific time in future what will happen with me? This can be answered after conjuncture interpretation
of Janmlagn, relevent divisional chart, dasha, and transit.
This chapter deals with third question.

5.1 Predicting Marriage

Here a case of marriage is presented. Exact time of marriage is predicted after analysing Janmlagn, Navansh, two
dashas namely Vinshottary and Jaimini’s Char, and transit.

happened in Can-Ari-Aqu dasha. Analysing positions of planets in Janmlagn and Navansh to understand interpre-
tation of Vinshottary dasha.
1. Marriage is seen from 7th house and 7th lord, both in Janmlagna and Navansh.

To conclude, Sun, Rahu, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Moon, Mars play key role in marriage while marriage happened
in R-Me-V-V-Me dasha. Concluding, in the case of Jaimini’s char dasha, marriage will have more chances to happen
in the dasha of signs which have relationship with 7th house, either of natal or of Navansh, or the sign occupied by
Dara Karak, either in natal or Navansh, or signs aspected by Dara Karak, either in natal or Navansh. In the case
of Vinshottary dasha, it is very likely marriage will happen in the dasha of planets or sign, who have relationships
with 7th house, either of natal or of Navansh, through the way of aspect, or occupation, or conjunction with 7th
lord. Careful analysis of both Vinshottary and Char dasha indicates Char dasha helps in estimating approximate
time phase within which event has maximum chances of occurance while Vinshottary dasha, if worked out properly
within the time phase found out using char dasha, will help in finding out accurate time of event.
