The Airbus Command Course, also called upgrade to captain, is specifically
designed to train First Officers who have been selected by the Customer, to
Command level on Airbus aircraft. Designed in accordance with the CBTA
principles, the Airbus Command Course integrates the latest international
standards and interlinks operational issues with the required pilot competencies.
The course has a special focus on Commander Resilience and develops the
following competencies:
- leadership & teamwork
- problem-solving & decision-making
- workload management
as well as considering threat and error management within complex operational
and environmental contexts
Description
The Airbus Command course aims at developing and assessing the competencies a Commander requires to operate safely,
effectively, and efficiently in a commercial air transport environment, in dynamic and challenging operational and environmental
contexts
The Airbus Command Course has been designed in accordance with the competency-based training and assessment (CBTA)
principles and is one of the Airbus Total System Approach training courses.
It consists of 2 parts:
- ground training (5 days)
- Scenario-based training (6 FFS sessions) plus 1 Operator Proficiency Check (1 FFS)
Remark: The operator is in charge of ensuring that their commander candidates have a deep knowledge of their Operational
Manuals. A candidate's self-study period is highly recommended before attending the Command Course in an Airbus Training
Centre (or at your facilities) in order to ensure a satisfactory training progress and at least an adequate level of performance at the
end of the course. Guidance will be provided before the course starts, with a period of 3 months minimum required to prepare
before starting the course.

This course has to be approved by Operators Authorities
Prerequisites
In addition to the Command Course prerequisites defined by the Operator’s Competent Authority and the Operator:
- Hold a valid Type Rating on the relevant aircraft.
- Be selected by the airline
- English Language ICAO Proficiency Rating of 4, 5 or 6
- 3 months minimum preparatory work (self-study) Guidance will be provided by Airbus

Other locations upon request, provided the necessary training facilities are available and in accordance with the Airbus standard
