Makabongwe uwJehova SATB divisi with Solos and Percussion arranged by Michael Barrett & Mpumelelo Manyathi na CAMERON LABaRR EMPOWERING ARTISTRY About the Work Towards the end of 2018, Mpumelelo approached me with his desite to arrange treditional South Afican music, and we decided 10 work on twe medlaye together for the 2018 Take Camersta reportite. Makabongwre uJehova and Ulale inami/iSabate (both publshad by Walken Music) are the result ofthis wonderful colateratien. Working with Mpumelele wae such 2 wonderful experience for me, and | am convinced a new voice fer traditonal South AMiean music arrangements has baen born | am thaniful to Mpumelele for his knowledge and passion of our craft. These medleys are based on popula: hymns taken from the Zulu and Sotho tribes that ean be heatd throughout churshes in South Africa. Athough Zuluis part ofthe Nguni culture and Sofno beiongs o the people cf the Basotho, traditonal South Afrcan music (as a collctive) shares many commonalties, and often the music ‘tom one culture is adopted and adapted by another. Traditional melodies which incorporate the language and siyles from varicus cultural groups. isa popular practice ina county asrich in diversityas South Africa.
