MODULAR OPERATING THEATRE
Operation theatre is that specialized facility of the hospital where life saving or
life improving procedures are carried out on the human body by invasive
methods under strict aseptic conditions in a controlled environment by
specially trained personnel to promote healing and cure with maximum safety,
comfort and economy. It is imperative that operation theatre (OT) is designed
scientifically to ensure sterility, easy maintenance and effective utilization.
A civil – mechanical –electrical – electronic – biomedical combination driven
and co-ordinated by needs , preferences and safety of the medical surgical
team forms the basis of planning , starting and maintaining an operation
theatre.

IVF LAB SETUP
To set up an IVF lab, it is important to have a sterile, stable, and non-toxic
environment. To ensure such optimum conditions, location of the IVF lab, non-
sterile and sterile area to be clearly demarcated. Non- sterile comprises of
reception, consultation room, store room, record room, and autoclave room.
For an IUI lab set up, the semen collection room should be adjacent to the
semen processing lab and the IUI room so that the temperature of the semen
can be maintained. The sterile area must be air conditioned where fresh air is
filtered through an approved, and an appropriate filter system and is circulated
at ambient temperature. The operation room and embryo transfer room should
be well equipped with emergency resuscitative procedures and ultrasound for
embryo transfer. The operation theatre should be along the embryology
laboratory. Mimicking in vivo atmosphere is extremely important in terms of tem
perature, humidity, and air quality to optimize fertilization, cleavage,
blastulation, implantation, and pregnancy rates
HVAC
Hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities play a vital role in society,
providing treatment and care for people. What is equally vital is the role of
heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) in these buildings. The
importance of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and its effects on health. When IAQ is
not optimal, it can worsen allergies and other respiratory issues, causing flare-
ups and sensitivities. This is true for any type of building that is frequented by
people, but it becomes especially necessary in the case of healthcare
facilities, where patients with compromised health may visit, where staff need
to be protected from infections, and where delicate operations may be
performed.
The particular challenges of healthcare facility buildings from an HVAC
point of view, and how each element (temperature, humidity, ventilation and
air filtration) helps keep a healthy environment.
FIRE FIGHTING
An automatic sprinkler system is intended to detect, control and extinguish a
fire, and warn the occupants of occurrence of fire. The installation comprises
fire pumps, water storage tanks, control valve sets, sprinkler heads, flow switch
es, pressure switches, pipe work and valves. The system operates
automatically without human intervention.
Each sprinkler head contains a glass bulb or a fusible link. The bulb contains a
liquid and a quantity of vapour. The liquid expands under the influence of
heat as do the fusible link heads. When the temperature reaches a certain
level – typically at 68 Degree Centigrade – it will expand the liquid and break
the bulb or fusible link, which in turn releases water directly onto the seat of
the fire.
The hot gases from a fire will make the sprinkler operate. A fire creates a
narrow plume of hot air and gasses that rise to the ceiling and spread out.
These hot gasses activate the sprinkler head at the correct temperature.
