1.“The Last Leaf” is about two artists, Sue and Johnsy, living together. Johnsy gets sick and thinks she’ll die
when the last leaf falls from a vine outside. Their neighbor, Mr. Behrman, paints a leaf on the wall to give
Johnsy hope. Even though he’s sick too, Mr. Behrman goes out in the cold to paint the leaf, and he ends up
sacrificing himself for Johnsy. It shows how hope and art can be powerful, even in tough times.

Exposition: Sue and Johnsy, two struggling artists, live together in Greenwich Village
Rising Action: Johnsy falls ill with pneumonia and becomes convinced she’ll die when the last leaf falls from
the vine outside her window. Despite Sue’s efforts to reassure her, Johnsy’s condition worsens.
