Title: Classmate
Hi, I’m Keshi Syndeah, and I’m 18 years old. Today is my first day at school. As I walk down
the hallway, trying to find my classroom, I notice someone on the other side staring at me with a
strange smile. By the way, I’m a new student at Cindy’s University, studying BSED English as a
second-year college student. The person approaches me.
“Hey, I’m Akiro. Are you new here?” the person asks, seeming a bit weird.
I just stare at him and continue walking until I find my room.
In class, the teacher introduces me as the new student, and I greet everyone.
“Hi, everyone! I’m Keshi Syndeah, 19 years old. Nice to meet you all.”
The teacher asks me to sit in a vacant seat at the back.
While I walk to my seat, I see Akiro’s smiling face. It turns out he’s my classmate. Our teacher
starts the lesson, gives us an assignment, and dismisses the class. As I head to the canteen, Akiro
shows up. He’s talkative and silly, and I enjoy listening to his funny stories. We become close
friends, hanging out, watching movies, and laughing together. I start to develop feelings for him,
but I keep them to myself for the sake of our friendship. I notice people around us reacting
strangely when we talk, but I choose to ignore it.
After spending eight months with Akiro, I continue to notice the strange reactions from others.
However, I choose to disregard them. Then November comes, and it’s time to visit the graves of
our loved ones.
At the cemetery, after visiting my father’s grave (he passed away when I was 9 years old due to
cancer), I take a walk to the other side and come across a familiar name and face on a poster.
“Akiro Lin
Died on August 20, 2023
Born on August 19, 2003”
“He’s dead? Oh my God, is this real?”
Many questions fill my mind, and I desperately try to call him, but he never answers. Suddenly, a
beautiful girl appears.
“Ohh! It’s a miracle that someone is visiting my brother’s grave,” she says.
“He’s your brother?” I ask.
“Yes, he’s my brother. I’m Yna Lin. And you are?”
“I’m Keshi Syndeah. What caused his death?”
“He jumped off a building at his school because of bullying. Since he died, no one has come to
visit him here because no one wanted to be his friend.”
“Why?” I ask.
“Because our father killed the person who murdered our mother. That’s why they bullied Akiro,
calling him the son of a criminal and a monster,” Yna explains.
Tears stream down my face, and Yna hugs me before leaving.
When I get home, I go straight to my room and burst into tears. I can’t believe it.
Fast forward:
I’m back at school, searching for Akiro. I find him sitting under the Narea tree.
“Akiro Lin! Why didn’t you tell me that you were already dead?” I ask.
“Why can I still see you? Why are you still here on Earth?” I question, tears welling up in my
eyes.
I have so many questions, but all he does is smile.
“Akiro, please answer me!” I plead as tears slowly trickle down my cheeks.
Akiro hugs me tightly, crying, and says, “Keshi Syndeah, I love you so much.” He holds my face
gently. “No one has ever made me as happy as you have. No one wanted to be my friend because
of my father. Thank you for the short time we had together. You made me feel loved, valued, and
special. I stayed here because I wanted to feel valued and loved by someone, to experience the
feeling of having a friend. Until we meet again, my love. I love you so much.”
He holds me tightly, crying, and then kisses my forehead before slowly disappearing from my
sight. He has left me.
Afterward, I continue to visit his grave regularly until I graduate with magna cumlaude.
“My love, I miss you so much. I hope you’re doing great and are happy in the hands of Almighty
God. Until we meet again, my love. I love you,” I say, feeling the cold air embrace me. I wipe
away my tears and leave with a heart filled with happiness.
The End.
