English is considered as the global
language of business, science, and
communication. It is spoken by over 1.5
billion people worldwide, making it the
most widely spoken language.
WHAT IS ACCENT?
It refers to a distinctive mode of
pronunciation of a language ,
especially one associated with a
particular nation, locality, or social
class.

English Accents from England
1. The King's English - This is also
known as Received Pronunciation.
This is the sort of English you
might hear if you are talking to
one of the Royal family.
2. Cockney Accent- This is from the East
London and it is the working class dialect of
rhyming slang. For example, someone says
they're going up the "apples and pears" (stairs).
3. Brummie Accent- This accent is Birmingham.
For example, someone greeted you "Alright,
Bb?" which means "Hello, mate"
4. Scouse Accent- It is one of the
distinctive accent in England. It's a
melodious treat to the ears
because of its high pitch and fast
pace.
5. West Country Accent- It is known for its
lyrical, rhotic quality.
6. Mancunian Accent- Over in Manchester,
the Mancunian accent is a noteworthy one.
This accent has a tendency to drop the "h" in
a word.
7. Yorkshire Accent- It is known for its no-nonsense
directness. You might hear some say "reet" instead of "right".
8. British Accent -It refers to the accents found within
the United Kingdom including England, Scotland, Wales,
and Northern Ireland.
9. Scottish Accent- It has a melodious quality and you
might notice an ''ay sound at the end of words, making
"yes" sound like "yesh".
10. American Accent-This is consider as one of the most
widely recognized and influential accents. It has a huge
range regional variations such as the Southern, New
York, or Californian accents.
11. Australian Accent - It is characterized by its vowel
sounds such as the pronunciation of "i" as "oi" and the
omission of the "r" sound at the end of the words.
12. Canadian English is influenced by both British and
American accents.
13. Indian accent is characterized by its rhythm,
intonation, and pronunciation patterns influence by
regional languages.
These different accents aren't just
about pronunciation or unique
vocabulary. These accents remind us
that language is a living entity ,
constantly changing and adapting, just
as the people who will speak it. Speak
