SHAHPURA, (BHITONI), JABALPUR (RURAL COMMUNITY)
ORIENTATION: -
We M. Sc. Nursing 1st year students have been oriented to “RURAL COMMUNITY CHC –
SHAHPURA, (BHITONI) JABALPUR” on 06-02-2023 at 8:00 Am by our Respected Teachers. We
are total 04 students of M.Sc. Nursing 1st year students who have been oriented by our respected
Teachers, Namely- Ms. Shweta Thakur Madam. We all the students of M. Sc. Nursing 1st year
gathered in our college premise and thereafter by our college vehicle we went to - COMMUNITY
HEALTH CENTRE – SHAHPURA (BHITONI). Now, after reaching CHC-Shahpura (Bhitoni) our
teachers took us to the CHC campus, where they showed and introduced us with all the different
places situated within it.
DISTANCE FROM OUR COLLEGE: -
Shahpura comes under Nagar Parishad in Jabalpur district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Shahpura is 24 km from Jabalpur on State Highway 37A which connects Sagar to Jabalpur.
It covers the area of 40-50 km and Shahpura total population is 213134.

INFORMATION OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE (CHC)
SHAHPURA-
Community Health Centre – Shahpura is situated 24 km. away from Jabalpur at Sagar road. In
this CHC, normal vaginal deliveries are conducted along with caesarean section deliveries.
Under this center, there are 4 Primary Health Centers, 6 Sub-Centers and covers 16 wards, whose
total population is approximately -213134. Anganwadi centers covered under this CHC are 24.
This center also has Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre where 20 malnourished children are
admitted every month. This center is comprised of Out-door-patient (OPD) facility in which 500
patients coming from far are provided treatment from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily, thereafter these
patients are provided free medications and free laboratory check-ups.
Community Health Centre – Shahpura is running under the guidance of State Government and
under the Ministry of Health M.P. This CHC is a non-profit entity that delivers health care
services based on peoples influence and participation. Typically, this CHC provides primary and
preventive care to medically underserved and uninsured people.

INFRASTRUCTURE OF COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE (CHC)
SHAHPURA: -
Shahpura CHC has 27 rooms. It also has separate female and male ward. This health
center was established in the year 2012. The OPD and NRC building was established on
October 12, 2012 and was inaugurated by Hon’ Mr. Uma Shankar Gupta (Home Minister,
M.P. Govt.). It has attached ward with labor room with all required facilities. There is an
adequate parking area and 1-ambulance (108) and 1-Janani vehicle (102) for patients

RESIDENTIAL AREA –
It is comprised of:
➢ 4 quarters for Doctor.
➢ 2 quarters for Staff Nurses/Paramedical Staff.
PURPOSE OF CHC-SHAHPURA: -
1. To provide various medical services.
2. To make provisions for safe drinking water and basic sanitation
3. Prevention and control of pandemic diseases.
4. Collection of vital statistics of the area.
5. To provide basic health care and nutrition facilities.
6. Education and training of various health personnel working under the CHC area. a. Internal
medicines.

d. Family planning
e. Pharmacy.
f. Laboratory test.

• Inclusive of the social determinants of health.
• Grounded in a community development approach.
AIMS OF CHC-SHAHPURA-
i) To examine whether existing population norms and locations of CHC is conductive for
improving the accessibility of specialized health care services to the rural people.
ii) To assess the availability and adequacy of medical, Para-medical and supportive staff in CHC.
iii) To examine if the necessary health infrastructure including complementary facilities and
medicines are available and their functionality in improving the delivery of specialized health
care services
iv) To assess the extent to which the CHC is being utilized as referral centers for PHCs.
v) To investigate timely supply of essential medicines under National Health Programme (NHP)
and
vi) To assess the contribution of CHC to implementation of Family Welfare Programme.
vii) To improve the health status of the entire community in addition to the health of individual
patients.
viii) To provide services that are accessible to their target population and are comprehensive and
coordinated with other community services.
ix) CHC is accountable to the community they serve and community members are involved in
program planning and organizational governance.
x) CHC serves areas that are designated as either a Medically underserved area or medically
underserved population (MUA/MUP). The designation criteria include areas such as: ✓ Poverty
levels.
Number of providers.
Health status indicators such as infant mortality rate, substance abuse prevalence and
number of women of child-bearing age.
xi. To provide comprehensive primary and preventive primary care, dental and mental health
services.
xii. CHC should have 30 indoor beds, 1 operation theatre, 1 labor room, X-ray facility,
laboratory and transport facility
