Asian Development Bank, Japan Scholarship Scheme

Asian Development Bank is a Multilateral finance institution, Established in 1966 to

foster economic and social development in the Asia- Pacific region. ADB offers
Opportunities to talented individuals basically from its developing member countries to
pursue postgraduate studies through a Scholarship Program which commenced in 1988 with
funding from the Government of Japan
Scholarships, for periods of one to two years, are awarded at sixteen well known
Institutions in the region. Studies in economics, management, science and Technology and
other development-related Fields are available.
Persons interested in the Scholarship Program should complete the information sheet
and send it to the Institute at the address given below.

THE SCHOLARSHIP
Each scholarship covers full tuition fees, an Allowance for books and instructional
materials, a Monthly subsistence and housing allowance, medical insurance and travel
expenses. For scholars engaged in research, a special grant may be made to assist in
fieldwork and thesis preparation language and other similar courses may be covered
under the scholarship.
The institutions, using their standard criteria, will evaluate the applications and contact
candidates for future information. The institution will then endorse eligible candidates to
ADB. ADB will make a selection and inform each institution accordingly. The institutions
will inform all applicants and make arrangements for successful ones to take up their
scholarships
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
If you are a citizen of a developing member Country of ADB who has been admitted
to one of the specified study programs in the participating academic Institutions, you may
be considered for a scholarship. The Program especially welcomes women applicants and
individuals who have limited financial access to higher studies. Family income should not
be more than US$ 50,000 per year and individual income should not be more than US$
25,000 per year. Age of the candidate should not be more than 35 years at the time of
submission of application. Further, at least 2 years of full-time professional working
experience(acquired after a university degree) at the time of application. Proficiency in oral
and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies. Upon completion of
the study, you are expected to return to your home country. Candidates should be
physically fit.
Executive Directors, alternate Directors, officials and staff of ADB, as well as their
close relatives, are Not eligible for the Scholarships. Staff of the designated Institutions
for the Program are not eligible to apply to their own institution.

PROCEDURES FOR APPLYING

At IIT Delhi ADB scholarship is available only for studying M.Tech.
programme. A list of M.Tech. programmes is given in the ANNEXURE. Applicants
who have secured CGPA of 6.75 on 10 point scale or 60% marks in aggregate ( of all
the semesters/years) are eligible to apply. For details about the Institute and the course
details of various M.Tech. programmes please read the Courses of Study and the

In case you fulfill our admission criteria, please complete the Information Sheet
(may be photocopied ) and send it to the following, by post ( application/documents
sent by email will not be entertained), along with photocopies of the marks-sheets/
degree certificates/other relevant documents:

Please note that admission at IIT Delhi is subject to prior clearance of the Government
of India.

IMPORTANT

No separate application to ADB is necessary.

Only candidates who have been offered admission and endorsed by the academic
institutions will be considered for the scholarships by ADB.

Scholarship awards are intended for the scholar only; no provision is made for
spouses or dependents.

Completion of the information sheet or admission by the academic institution does

not mean that you have been accepted for a scholarship; accordingly you should not take any action
with respect to your current employment or otherwise, until you have been informed by the
institution that you have been awarded a scholarship.
