FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (CCFUP) AS PER NATIONAL
EDUCATION POLICY (NEP) 2020

In exercise of the powers conferred upon it by Section 52 and Sub-section


(xx), (xxi), (xxii) & (xxiii) of Section 21 of the Burdwan University Act, 1981
(West Bengal Act XXIII of 1981) read with the update amendments, the
Executive Council makes the following Regulations, namely:

EXAMINATIONS UNDER CURRICULUM AND CREDIT FRAMEWORK
FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (CCFUP) AS PER NATIONAL
EDUCATION POLICY (NEP) 2020

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 1:
These Regulations shall come into force from the academic year 2023-24.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 2:
Henceforth, there shall be Undergraduate Degree Programmes of either 3 or
4-year duration, with multiple entry and exit points and re-entry options, with
appropriate certifications such as:
• a UG Certificate after successful completion of 1-year (2 Semesters) of
study in the chosen fields of study,
• a UG Diploma after successful completion of 2-year (4 Semesters) of
study,
• a Bachelor‟s Degree after successful completion of 3-year (6
Semesters) programme of study,
• a Bachelor‟s Degree (Honours) after successful completion of 4-year (8
Semesters) programme of study.
If the students complete a rigorous research project/ dissertation in their
major area(s) of study in the 4th year of a bachelor‟s degree then a
Bachelor‟s Degree (Honours with Research) will be awarded.
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 3:
Definitions:
In these regulations, the following definitions have been incorporated:
“University” means The University of Burdwan established and incorporated under
The Burdwan University Act.
“College” means Non-Government College/ State-aided college/Government
college affiliated to this University.
“Under Graduate Programme of Study” i.e., „UG Programme‟ means either 3 or
4-year Programme of study divided into six/eight semesters, each of six months
duration, to be pursued after successful completion of 10+2 examination from any
recognised Council/Board/University with multiple entry and exit points and re-
entry options, with appropriate certifications.
“Academic Year” means a year from July to June, i.e., the period commencing
from 1st day of July of a year and ending on 30th June of the following year.
“Academic Session” means the actual tenure of the programme i.e., the period
commencing from the 1st day of July of the 1st Academic Year and ending on 30th
June of the final Academic Year. [e.g., the Academic Session 2023-2026 of 3-
Year Degree Programme means the period commencing from the 1 st day of July,
2023 and ending on 30th June, 2026. Similarly, the Academic Session 2023-2027
of 4-Year Honours Programme means the period commencing from the 1st day of
July, 2023 and ending on 30th June, 2027.]
“Semester” means a period of six months i.e., July to December and January to
June of each academic year. There will be a minimum 15 weeks (6-day week) of
teaching-learning in each semester.
“Grade Point” means a numeric value from 4 to 10 based on percentage of marks
obtained in a course as envisaged in U. Reg (CCFUP) 11 (x).
“Course” means an independent part/unit/module/paper of a subject (i.e., a
particular independent knowledge domain of a subject) in a formal programme
with specified number of credits and is examined separately.
“Credit”, a numeric value, is the unit by which the weight of a course is measured.
One Credit is equivalent to one hour of teaching (Theoretical or Tutorial) or two
hours of Practical work/Field work per week in a semester.
“Credit Point” is the product of „Credit‟ and „Grade Point‟ of a particular course.
“Letter Grade” is an index of the performance of students in a said Programme.
Letter Grades are allotted by letters O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P, F and Ab.
“Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA)” means a measure of performance of a
student in a semester. It is the ratio as expressed in U. Reg (CCFUP) 11 (ix) (a). It
shall be computed and expressed up to two decimal places. SGPA will be
calculated on the basis of all courses pursued by a candidate of the relevant
Semester.
“Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)” means a measure of cumulative
performance of students over each & all the semesters and shall be computed
based on the SGPAs in all semesters after joining the programme of study. It is the
ratio as expressed in U. Reg. (CCFUP) 11 (ix) (b). It shall be computed and
expressed up to two decimal places.
“Grade Card” means a credential issued to each candidate generally containing
course type, subject, course code, course title, grade point, credit, credit points,
letter grade and credit retained year along with SGPA & CGPA.
“Enroll” means enrollment of a student for appearing at Semester-end
Examination.
“MIL” stands for Modern Indian Language.
The Words and Expressions used but not defined shall be interpreted to have the
same meaning as they have in The Burdwan University Act, The Burdwan
University Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations, etc.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 4:
Candidates, admitted to Three/Four Year Under Graduate Programmes,
shall have to opt for the Subject(s)/Courses/Group of Courses as prescribed by the
appropriate authorities of the University from time to time. The present
Programme Structures are as follows:
4.1 Major Subject: Major subject is the subject of main focus and the degree will
be awarded in that subject. Students should earn the prescribed number of credits
(about 50% of total credits) through core courses in the major subject.
 In the previous pattern(s), the subjects which were affiliated to any
college/institute under BU as both Hons. & General subjects, those subjects
under CCFUP shall be treated as Major subjects for both 4-Year Hons.
Programme & 3-Year Degree Programme.
 In the previous pattern(s), the subjects which were affiliated to any
college/institute under BU as Hons. Subjects only, those subjects under
CCFUP shall be treated as Major subjects for 4-Year Hons. Programme
only.
 In the previous pattern(s), the subjects which were affiliated to any
college/institute under BU as General subjects only, those subjects under
CCFUP shall be treated as Major subjects for 3-Year Degree Programme.
 In the previous pattern the subject which was named as “Physical
Education”, is now being named as “Physical Education & Sports” and this
subject shall be treated as Major subject for both 3-Year Degree
Programme & 4-Year Hons. Programme under CCFUP.
4.2 Minor Subject: Minor subject helps a student to gain a broader understanding
beyond the major subject. For example, if a student pursuing an Economics major
obtains a minimum of 12 credits from a bunch of courses in Statistics/History,
then the student will be awarded B.Sc./B.A. degree in Economics with Minor in
Statistics/History as the case may be.
 Students having Major in Accounting & Management/Business
Administration/ Business Administration (T&H)/Computer Applications
/Fine Arts shall study the Minor Courses as prescribed in the syllabus of the
subject concerned instead of choosing another subject/courses as Minor.
 Modality of selection of Minor Subject:
 A student of 3-Year Degree Programme under CCFUP shall have to
study seven (7) Minor Courses (4 Credits each) of which three (3)
Minor Courses shall be studied in 1st, 2nd, & 4th Semesters on a single
subject chosen by him/her in Semester I, one Minor course of another
subject in 4th Semester and three (3) Minor Courses on Vocational
Education & Training shall be studied in 3rd, 5th & 6th Semesters.
 A student of 4-Year Hons. Programme under CCFUP shall have to
study nine (9) Minor Courses (4 Credits each) of which three (3)
Minor Courses shall be studied in 1st, 4th & 7th Semesters on a single
subject chosen by him/her in Semester I, three (3) Minor Courses
shall be studied in 2nd, 4th & 8th Semesters on another subject chosen
by him/her in Semester II and three (3) Minor Courses on Vocational
Education & Training shall be studied in 3rd, 5th & 6th Semesters. For
this purpose, the University Authority will issue notice prior to
commencement of the Semester III mentioning the modality of
teaching-learning of such courses from time to time.
Vocational Education and Training will form an integral part of the undergraduate
programme to impart skills along with theory and practical. A minimum of 12
credits will be allotted to the „Minor‟ stream relating to Vocational Education and
Training and these can be related to the major or minor subject or choice of the
student.
4.3 Multi/Inter Disciplinary: The students will undergo courses in multi/inter
disciplinary category to have basic knowledge not only in major areas but also in
other disciplines broadly grouped under (Natural and Physical Sciences),
(Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Computer Applications),
(Library, Information and Media Sciences), (Commerce and Management), and
(Humanities & Social Sciences).
 Modality of selection of a subject for Multi/Inter Disciplinary Courses:
A student shall have to study three (3) courses on a single subject in the
field of Multi/Inter Disciplinary in 1st, 2nd & 3rd semesters.
Broad disciplinary category of Multi/Inter Disciplinary subjects must be
different from the Broad disciplinary category(ies) of the Major and the
Minor subjects chosen by a student.
e.g., i. If the Major and the Minor subjects chosen by a student belong to
the Humanities & Social Sciences Group, then he/she shall have to choose
Multi/Inter Disciplinary subject from one of the rest four broad categories
mentioned above provided that the subject is affiliated to the college
concerned by the University only with the exception that the subject
Environmental Science or Computer Science may be chosen by the
candidate irrespective of university affiliation.
ii. If the Major subject chosen by a student belongs to the Natural &
Physical Sciences Group and the Minor subject belongs to the Mathematics,
Statistics, Computer Science and Computer Applications Group, then
he/she shall have to choose Multi/Inter Disciplinary subject from one of the
rest three broad categories mentioned above provided that the subject is
affiliated to the college concerned by the University only with the exception
that the subject Environmental Science or Computer Science may be chosen
by the candidate irrespective of university affiliation.
4.4 Ability Enhancement Course (AEC): Students are required to achieve
competency in a Modern Indian Language (MIL:
Arabic/Bengali/Hindi/Sanskrit/Santali/Urdu) and in the English language with
special emphasis on language and communication skills. The courses will
emphasize the development and enhancement of skills such as communication,
and the ability to participate/conduct discussion and debate.
 Modality of selection of AEC:
A student shall have to study two (2) courses of any of the above mentioned
subjects as MIL in 1st & 3rd semesters and two (2) courses of English
language in 2nd & 4th semesters as per the syllabi prescribed by the
University or equivalent course(s) of his/her chosen subject as MIL and/or
English language from SWAYAM or any other UGC recognized platform.
However, in case regular teaching-learning of none of the six subjects under
MIL is done in any college/institute affiliated to BU, that college authority
shall arrange regular teaching-learning of Bengali in 1st & 3rd semesters
under CCFUP. In spite of that if there is any student in that college/institute
who cannot read & write Bengali (to be justified by the respective college
authority based on the relevant documents furnished by the student
concerned) or if any student is enrolled in a college in any of the above
mentioned subjects under MIL which is not affiliated to the college
concerned then he/she may, on submission of i) a self declaration regarding
self study of the subject concerned, and ii) an application addressed to the
Registrar, BU, through the Principal/TIC/OIC of the College concerned
along with the remittance of required fees, be allowed exemption from
regular study in that subject.
But each college authority shall arrange regular teaching-learning of
English language in 2nd & 4th semesters under CCFUP.
4.5 Skill Enhancement Course (SEC): These courses are aimed at developing
practical skills, hands-on training, soft skills, etc., to enhance the employability of
students.
 Modality of selection of SEC:
A student shall have to study three (3) courses as SEC on his/her respective
Major subject in 1st, 2nd & 3rd semesters.
4.6 Value Added Course (VAC): These courses aim at enabling the students
 with the ability to apply the acquired knowledge, skills, attitudes, and
values required to take appropriate actions for mitigating the effects of
environmental issues,
 to acquire and demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of
contemporary India with its historical perspective including values as
enshrined in the Constitution of India,
 in cutting-edge technologies and
 seek to promote an optimal state of physical, emotional, intellectual, social,
moral, ethical and spiritual values of a person as well as environmental well
being.
 Modality of selection of VAC:
 All the enrolled students of 1st semester shall have to study
Environmental Science/Education as the 1st course of VAC.
 Each enrolled students of 2nd semester shall have to study
Understanding India/Digital & Technological Solutions/Health &
Wellness, Yoga Education, Sports & Fitness as the 2nd course of
VAC
4.7 Internship: A key aspect of the new UG programme is induction into actual
work situations in the form of Internship/Apprenticeship in a firm, industry,
college library (affiliated to BU), or organization or Training in labs under
Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes. Students
will be provided with opportunities for Internship with local industry,
business organizations, health and allied areas, local governments (such as
panchayats, municipalities), elected representatives of Parliament or
Assembly, media organizations, artists, crafts persons, and a wide variety of
organizations so that students may actively engage with the practical side of
their learning and, as a by-product, further improve their employability.
4.8 Research Project/Dissertation: Students choosing a 4-Year Bachelor‟s
Degree (Honours with Research) are required to take up research projects at
the beginning of 7th semester under the guidance of a faculty member. The
students are expected to complete the Research Project in the eighth
semester. The research outcomes of their project work may be published in
peer-reviewed journals or may be presented in conferences /seminars or may
be patented.
 Modality:
 Students who secure CGPA 7.5 and above at semester six and wish to
undertake research at the undergraduate level can choose a research
stream in the fourth year. They are required to do a research project or
dissertation under the guidance of a faculty member of the College. The
research project/dissertation will be in the major discipline.
 Infrastructure Requirement: The Departments offering a 4-year UG
Degree (Honours with Research) must have the required infrastructure
such as the library, access to journals, computer lab and software,
laboratory facilities to carry out experimental research work, and at least
two permanent faculty members who are recognized as Ph.D.
supervisors, subject to prior approval of the competent authority of the
University, at least six months prior to the commencement of the 7th
semester.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 6:
Examinations for 3-Year Degree/4-Year Honours Programmes shall be
held in Six (6)/Eight (8) SEMESTERS. Semester-end Examination will be held
generally in the last month of each semester.
Every student shall have to register his/ her name as a student of the University
as per norms within the time as prescribed by the University in this regard and enroll
himself / herself before appearing at each Semester-end Examination.
Every student, appearing at any Semester-end Examination of 3-Year
Degree/4-Year Honours Programme, shall have to pay examination fees as may
be prescribed by the University from time to time at the time of filling up of
Examination Forms. A student, who fails to qualify/pass the examination or fails to
present himself/herself at an examination or fails to fulfill the criteria for receipt
of the Admit Card of the semester concerned, shall not be entitled to claim refund
of fees.
An affiliated College/ Institution shall have to submit the prescribed forms,
duly filled-in by the eligible students intending to appear at the said examination(s)
and duly forwarded by the Principal/Teacher-in-charge/Officer-in-charge of the
college/institution concerned to the Controller of Examinations, within the date
and time to be fixed by the Controller of Examinations for the purpose.
Examination will be conducted on the basis of the Syllabi to be framed by the
Boards of Under-graduate Studies concerned and duly approved by the
appropriate authorities from time to time.

of Studies concerned and to be duly approved by the appropriate authorities.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 7:
i. A candidate (Regular/Back) shall have to complete Sem.-I, Sem.-II, Sem.-
III, Sem.-IV, Sem.-V, Sem.-VI, Sem.-VII & Sem.-VIII Examinations (as the case
may be) within seven (7) consecutive years (in case of 4-Year Hons. Programme)/
six (6) consecutive years (in case of 3-Year Degree Programme) including his/her
original year of enrolment in Sem.-I Examination subject to the condition that not
more than three (3) consecutive chances shall be allowed in each Semester.
If any of the chances, mentioned above, is not availed of by a candidate within
the stipulated period, the chance shall be deemed to have lapsed.
ii. If a student intends to exit the programme at the end of the 1st year after
securing 40 credits, he/she will be awarded “Certificate”, provided he/she
completes a skill based vocational course of additional 4 credits for 8 (eight)
weeks during the summer term (preferably from 3rd week of April to 2nd week of
June) of the first year as a mandatory requirement. However, such additional
credit will not be taken into consideration while computing SGPA/CGPA though
it will be reflected in the Grade Card. Such a student may take re-entry in 3rd
semester within a maximum period of three academic years from his/her exit but
the entire programme shall be completed within the maximum period of seven
years (in case of 4-Year Hons. Programme) and six years (in case of 3-Year
Degree Programme) from original year of enrolment in Sem.-I Examination.
iii. If a student intends to exit the programme at the end of the 2 nd year after
securing 87 credits, he/she will be awarded “Diploma”, provided he/she completes
a skill based vocational course of additional 4 credits for 8 (eight) weeks during
the summer term (preferably from 3rd week of April to 2nd week of June) of the
second year as a mandatory requirement. However, such additional credit will not
be taken into consideration while computing SGPA/CGPA though it will be
reflected in the Grade Card. Such a student may take re-entry in 5th semester
within a maximum period of three academic years from his/her exit but the entire
programme shall be completed within the maximum period of seven years (in case
of 4-Year Hons. Programme) and six years (in case of 3-Year Degree Programme)
from original year of enrolment in Sem.-I Examination.
iv. All students of 5th Semester shall have to undergo
Internship/Apprenticeship in a firm, industry, college library, or organization or
Training in labs under Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate
Programmes or as to be prescribed by the competent authority from time to time.
Students will be provided with opportunities for Internship with local industry,
business organizations, health and allied areas, local governments (such as
panchayats, municipalities), elected representatives of Parliament or Assembly,
media organizations, artists, crafts persons, and a wide variety of organizations so
that students may actively engage with the practical side of their learning and, as a
by-product, further improve their employability.
Modality of completion of Internship: Duration-4 weeks, (preferably
September - December), certificate from authority concerned, submission of
report on the activities of internship to the college concerned, presentation & viva-
voce conducted by the college.
It is a mandatory requirement. However, such additional credit will not be
taken into consideration while computing SGPA/CGPA though it will be reflected
in the Grade Card.
v. Students who wish to undergo a 3-year UG programme will be awarded
UG Degree in the Major subject/discipline after successful completion of three
years, securing 128 credits and satisfying the credit requirement as given in
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 5.
vi. A four-year UG Honours Degree in the Major subject/discipline will be
awarded to those who have completed a four-year degree programme with 178
credits and have satisfied the credit requirements as given in U.Reg. (CCFUP) 5.
vii. Students who secure CGPA 7.5 and above at semester six and wish to
undertake research at the undergraduate level can choose a research
project/dissertation in the fourth year. They should do a Research Project or
Dissertation under the guidance of a faculty member of the College. The research
project/dissertation will be in the Major Discipline.
Necessary activities of such Research Project/Dissertation shall be initiated in
the 7th semester and Seminar/Submission/Assessment etc. shall be done in 8th
semester.
 Students who secure 178 credits, including 12 credits from a Research
Project/Dissertation, shall be awarded UG Degree (Honours with
Research).
 Honours students not undertaking Research Project/ Dissertation will
do 3 Courses for 12 credits on his/her Major Discipline in lieu of a
Research Project/ Dissertation. Such students who secure 178 credits
shall be awarded UG Degree (Honours).
To appear at Final Semester-end Examination (Semester – VIII), a candidate
shall have to clear all previous Semesters (i.e., Semester I to Semester VII) in case
of 4-Year Hons. Programme and to appear at Final Semester-end Examination
(Semester – VI), a candidate shall have to clear all previous Semesters (i.e.,
Semester I to Semester V) in case of 3-Year Degree Programme
Final Degree/Diploma/Certificate will be issued to the successful candidates
at the Convocation.
To qualify for position in the Merit List, a candidate shall have to pass all the
semesters in his/ her due first- original chance.

Roll Logic:
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 10:
1. Awarding UG Certificate, UG Diploma, and Degrees:
 UG Certificate:
Students who opt to exit after successful completion of the first year (two
semesters) and have earned 40 credits will be awarded a UG certificate if, in
addition, they complete one vocational course of 4 credits during the summer term
(preferably from 3rd week of April to 2nd week of June) of the first year as a
mandatory requirement. However, such additional credit will not be taken into
consideration while computing SGPA/CGPA though it will be reflected in the
Grade Card. These students are allowed to re-enter the degree programme (i.e. in
3rd semester) within three years and complete the degree programme within the
stipulated maximum period from original year of enrolment in Sem.-I
Examination.
 UG Diploma:
Students who opt to exit after successful completion of the second year (four
semesters) and have secured 87 credits will be awarded the UG diploma if, in
addition, they complete one vocational course of 4 credits during the summer term
(preferably from 3rd week of April to 2nd week of June) of the second year as a
mandatory requirement. However, such additional credit will not be taken into
consideration while computing SGPA/CGPA though it will be reflected in the
Grade Card. These students are allowed to re-enter the degree programme (i.e. in
5th semester) within three years and complete the degree programme within the
stipulated period from original year of enrolment in Sem.-I Examination.
 3-year UG Degree:
Students who wish to undergo a 3-year UG programme will be awarded UG
Degree in the Major discipline after successful completion of three years (six
semsters), securing 128 credits and satisfying the credit requirement as given in
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 5.
 4-year UG Degree (Honours):
A four-year UG Honours degree in the major subject/discipline will be
awarded to those who have completed a four-year degree programme with 178
credits and have satisfied the credit requirements as given in U.Reg. (CCFUP) 5.
 4-year UG Degree (Honours with Research):
A four-year UG Honours with Research degree in the major subject/discipline
will be awarded to those who have completed a four-year degree programme with
Research Project/Dissertation with 178 credits and have satisfied the credit
requirements as given in U.Reg. (CCFUP) 5.
2. Academic Bank of Credit (ABC): ABC is mandatory for each and every
registered students. Semester-wise and course-wise credit earned by a student
shall be uploaded on this platform by the respective Colleges/University
authority in due course.
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 11:
The evaluation of the candidates shall be based on regular and continuous
basis. The structure of evaluation shall be as follows:
i. Each semester- assessment shall be divided into three (3) discrete
components, viz. C1, C2, and C3. Internal Assessment of each course will
consist of C1 & C2 taken together. The students are to be informed about the
modalities of continuous assessment activities well in advance. The first
component (C1) of assessment shall be 10 (ten) marks of each course having
full marks 75 or 50 [except VAC of which the 1st component (C1) of
assessment shall be 15 (fifteen) marks of each course having full marks
100]. It will be based on class tests or assignments or seminars during the
end of the 10th week of each of the semesters when approximately 60% of
the syllabus of each course is to be completed. Appearance in C1 is
mandatory. C2, wherever applicable, would comprise of 5 (five) marks for
attendance only in Major, Minor and VAC. Award of 5 marks on class
attendance shall be given in the following manner:
Attendance 50% & above but below 60% - 2 marks
Attendance 60% & above but below 75% - 3 marks
Attendance 75% & above but below 90% - 4 marks
Attendance 90% & above - 5 marks
All records relating to C1 & C2 shall have to be preserved by the Colleges at
least for a period of one year after the completion of the relevant Semester-
end Examination. The University Authority may ask for any such records, if
required.
ii. Semester- end Examination shall be conducted for each course following
the notification of the Controller of Examinations, BU, from time to time
and the proportion of C3 will be 80% of the full marks of each course
[Except Internship and Research Project/Dissertation].
a) In case of Internship, out of 50 marks, 30 marks is allotted for
Project/Field Diary and 20 marks is allotted for viva voce.
b) In case of Research Project/Dissertation, out of 225 marks, 135 marks
is allotted for Project/Field Diary and 90 marks is allotted for viva
voce including Seminar/Presentation, if any.
iii. To qualify in a Practical-based course, an examinee is to appear in the
Theoretical part as well as in the Practical part of the examination in the
same semester.
iv. The marks obtained in each course in a semester shall be the sum of C1, C2
(wherever applicable) & C3 and that shall be converted and awarded in the
form of Letter Grade and Grade Point. Course-wise combined marks of C1
& C2 (wherever applicable) against University Roll No. of each candidate is
to be submitted to the University by the Colleges in the prescribed format
before completion of each Semester-end theoretical examination.
v. For finalization of the results of the students who will exit the programme at
the end of the 1st Year, the respective Authorities shall submit the Credit
Points, in respect of Skill Based Vocational Course (Credit 4), of such
students to the University Portal meant for the purpose after fulfilling all
pre-requisite requirements.
vi. For finalization of the results of the students who will exit the programme at
the end of the 2nd Year, the respective College Authorities shall submit the
Credit Points, in respect of Skill Based Vocational Course (Credit 4), of
such students to the University Portal meant for the purpose after fulfilling
all pre-requisite requirements.
vii. For finalization of the results of the students of 5th semester, the respective
College Authorities shall submit the Credit Points, in respect of Internship
(Credit 2), of such students to the University Portal meant for the purpose
after fulfilling all pre-requisite requirements.
viii. The Percentage, Grade Point, and Credit Point shall be as hereunder:

on the basis of all courses of the relevant Semester. Moreover, a separate
SGPA and CGPA on the basis of Major and Minor shall be shown.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 12:
Attendance of the students in the classes shall be governed by the
Provisions of the existing Ordinances of the University.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 13:


The result of each semester for both 3-Year Degree Programme & 4-
Year Hons. Programme shall be published stating the SGPA & CGPA obtained by
the candidates. If a candidate secures a minimum qualifying Grade 4 in all the
courses, he/she will be declared to have qualified in the said semester and result
will be shown as “ Q ”.
However, if a candidate fails to secure a minimum qualifying Grade 4 in any
course, his/ her result of the semester-end examination(s) will be declared as SNC
(Semester Not Cleared) and credit will be retained course-wise within the
prescribed chance(s) in each semester.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 14:


1. Subject to successful completion of all the Semesters (from Semester I to
Semester VI), the result of a candidate of 3-Year Degree Programme shall be
finalised on the basis of SGPAs obtained and the total credit earned in all the
semesters taken together as envisaged in U.Reg. (CCFUP) 11 (ix)(a).
A candidate will be considered to have passed 3-Year Degree Programme if
he/ she secures a minimum Letter Grade P in CGPA subject to the provisions laid
down above.
2. Subject to successful completion of all the Semesters (from Semester I to
Semester VIII), the result of a candidate of 4-Year Hons. Programme shall be
finalised on the basis of SGPAs obtained and the total credit earned in all the
semesters taken together as envisaged in U.Reg. (CCFUP) 11 (ix)(a).
A candidate will be considered to have passed 4-Year Hons. Programme if
he/ she secures a minimum Letter Grade P in CGPA subject to the provisions laid
down above.
3. If a candidate fails to secure a minimum Letter Grade P in CGPA, the result
of such candidate will be declared as PNC (Programme Not Cleared).

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 15:


A candidate can take admission to Semester-I within four (04)
consecutive years including his/ her year of passing (10+2) Examination.
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 16:
Subject to fulfillment of the terms and conditions stipulated in these
regulations, a candidate, who after prosecuting a regular Programme of Studies and
filling up the Examination Form but fails to appear at the examination, or appears
but fails to secure the minimum qualifying Grade in one or more course(s) of the
relevant semester, be allowed to continue his/ her study for the immediate next
semester and to appear at the semester-end examination concerned along with the
previous semester-end examination(s), retaining credit, if any, in the same
year/subsequent year(s) within the prescribed chance(s).
A candidate who fails to fill up his/her Semester-end examination form in
respect of Semester I will not be eligible for prosecuting further study in the same
Academic Session. To appear at Semester II to Semester VI or Semester VIII
Examinations, as the case may be, a candidate is to observe examination
formalities for the immediately preceding Semester.
In case of Semester- I, there will be no provision of re-admission but such a
student can take fresh admission to any course with the same Registration Number
to any College under the University of Burdwan provided that he/she can take
fresh admission to Semester- I in the same college maximum twice.
The first chance of an examinee in respect of Semester II to Semester VI or
Semester VIII Examinations, as the case may be, will be calculated on the basis of
his/her enrolment in Semester I irrespective of his/her appearance in the
examination for the semester concerned.
Intending candidates of 3-Year Degree Programme may take lateral entry to
4-Year Hons. Programme if he/she secures CGPA equivalent to a minimum 70%
marks and above in 6th semester. For this purpose, 10% additional seats over and
above the sanctioned strength of the Major subject concerned to accommodate the
request for lateral entry may be increased for that year only by the respective
College authorities subject to prior approval of the University authority. Any
unfilled or vacant seats of that Major subject may be filled with those seeking for
lateral entry. Preference will be given to those who have got highest CGPA with
no arrears in any of the first six semesters.
A student of 4-Year Hons. Programme may exit after completion of six
semesters securing 128 credits. Such student is allowed to re-enter the
programme (i.e. in 7th semester) within three years and complete the 4-Year Hons.
programme within the stipulated maximum period of seven years from original
year of enrolment in Sem.-I Examination.
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 17:
Internal Assessment of each course is generally to be completed in the 1st
due chance of a candidate concerned. However, in some exceptional case(s), the
college authorities, on reasonable ground, may allow that student to avail one
additional chance for the Internal Assessment within the prescribed chance(s) of
the course concerned. But there will be no scope of re-appearing at any Semester
at any course including Internal Assessment, Class- test or Assignment or
Seminar, Term Paper(s), Project Work(s), Field Report, Survey Report and Viva-
voce, if any, for improvement of results.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 18:


Marks, awarded in the Internal Assessment, Term Paper(s), Project
Work(s), Field Report, Survey Report, and Viva-voce, if any, and credit earned, if
any, shall be retained to a candidate‟s performance in the subsequent chance(s).

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 19:


If a candidate, who appears at any semester-end examination in part or
full after prosecuting a regular Programme of Studies and seeks for cancellation of
his/her semester-end examination concerned, may apply to the Controller of
Examinations in his/her own hand-writing, on its being duly forwarded by the
Principal/TiC/OiC of the College where he/she is enrolled, within 15 days from
the date of completion of the examination of theoretical courses of the said
semester-end examination. In that case, the entire examination of the semester
concerned, including the practical course(s), if any, shall be treated as cancelled
and he/she will be allowed to appear at that semester-end examination(s) afresh in
subsequent year(s) within the prescribed chance(s).

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 20:

The Board of UG Studies in the subject concerned shall recommend the


name of the Paper-setters, Moderators, Head Examiners/ Conveners, Examiners
both for theoretical and practical courses including external and internal as the
case may be. External Examiner(s) is/are mandatory for conducting Practical
Examination in Major courses only.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 22:


To qualify for position in the Merit List, a candidate shall have to pass all the
semesters in his/her due first- original chance and Rank, Merit List etc. will be
determined based on CGPA computed on the basis of all courses of the
programme concerned.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 23:


POST- PUBLICATION REVIEW (PPR) OF ANSWER- SCRIPTS UNDER CCFUP:
I. General Rules:
a) A candidate may apply for Post Publication Review of his/her answer scripts
in a maximum number of 50% of the total theoretical courses (excluding AEC,
Multi/Inter disciplinary, VAC, Internship & Research Project/Dissertation, if any)
appeared in each semester-end examination in the prescribed form and manner
and on submission of requisite fees within the date as per notification to be issued by
the office of the Controller of Examinations. But he/she must have to secure a
minimum Grade 4 in the remaining theoretical courses (excluding AEC,
Multi/Inter disciplinary, VAC, Internship & Research Project/Dissertation, if any)
of that particular semester.
b) There shall be no scope of Post Publication Review of Practical Course(s),
Internal Assessment, Term Paper(s), Project Work(s), Field Report, Survey Report,
AEC, Multi/Inter disciplinary, VAC, Internship & Research Project/Dissertation
and viva-voce, if any.
c) Post Publication Review and Post Publication Scrutiny of the same course of
a semester shall not be allowed.
d) Incomplete and faulty application is liable to be rejected without any intimation
to the candidate/college concerned.
e) Under no circumstances, fees, once paid, for Post Publication Review shall
be refunded.
f) Prayer for Post Publication Review in prescribed manner in respect of any
semester - end examination can not be related to the appearance at the next
Semester - end Examination. Candidates, who applied for Post Publication
Review, may make necessary preparation for the subsequent Semester-end
Examination(s) on the basis of his/her original result.

II. Computation of Results:


a) Calculation of final marks after Post Publication Review shall be made
course wise and result will be finalized accordingly.
b) If the marks awarded by the Post Publication Review examiner in a course
do not exceed the original award by more than 10% of the full marks in that
course then the Review examiner‟s award shall be accepted as final marks in that
course. On the other hand, if the increase in marks exceeds 10% of the full marks
in that course then the marks to the extent of 10% of the full marks plus half of the
marks in excess of 10% of the full marks shall be accepted as final marks of the
candidate in that course.
c) If the marks awarded by the Post Publication Review examiner in a course
do not reduce the original award by more than 5% of the full marks in that course
then the Review examiner‟s award shall be accepted as final marks in that
course. On the other hand, if the decrease in marks exceeds 5% of full marks in
that course, the marks to the extent of 5% of the full marks plus half of the
marks in excess of 5% of the full marks shall be accepted as final marks of the
candidate in that course,
Provided that such reduction does not result in the failure of a Candidate in a
course in any Semester. In case of CGPA of 3-Year Degree Programme or 4-Year
Hons. Programme of a candidate, such reduction does not result in the failure of a
successful Candidate who has already obtained at least a CGPA 4 (Letter Grade P).
If the difference between the original marks and the marks after Post
Publication Review in a course is more than 20% of the full marks in that course,
the relevant answer script(s) shall be referred to a third examiner and in that case
the average of those three awards, given by the three examiners, shall be accepted
as the final marks in that course.
d) While making calculation, any fractional figure shall be rounded-off to the next
higher integer.
e) In case of an unsuccessful candidate, addition of marks on Post Publication
Review in a course shall be given effect only when it leads to a change in his/
her result status with respect to his/ her original result, otherwise, the original
award shall be retained and in that case no fresh Grade Card shall be issued to
such candidate.
f) Any addition or subtraction of marks, declared by the University after Post
Publication Review, shall be treated as final and binding on the candidate. No
further application for consideration of Post Publication Review result shall be
entertained.
U.Reg. (CCFUP) 24:
POST- PUBLICATION SCRUTINY OF ANSWER- SCRIPTS UNDER CCFUP:
a) A candidate can apply for Post Publication Scrutiny in one or more courses
irrespective of marks, provided that Post Publication Scrutiny and Post
Publication Review of the same course of a Semester shall not be allowed.
b) Post Publication Scrutiny does not mean re-examination/re-assessment of
script(s) but involves verification of script(s) and record(s) to ascertain –
1) marks have been assigned to each of the required number of answer(s)
made by a candidate as per instruction printed on the question paper,
2) totaling of marks awarded by the examiners on the scripts and/or mark-
slips as the case may be, has correctly been done and
3) posting of marks has been made correctly from
i) Scripts to Mark- slips
ii) Mark- slips to Tabulation Sheets and
iii) Tabulation Sheets to individual Grade Card
c) There shall be no scope of Post Publication Scrutiny of Practical Course(s),
Internal Assessment, Term Paper(s), Project Work(s), Field Report, Survey Report,
AEC, Multi/Inter disciplinary, VAC, Internship & Research Project/Dissertation
and viva-voce, if any.
d) A candidate, applying for Post Publication Scrutiny of his/her answer- script(s),
shall have to accept the change in his/her marks after Post- Publication Scrutiny.
e) Fees once paid for Post Publication Scrutiny shall not be refunded in any case.

U.Reg. (CCFUP) 25 :
If any dispute arises as to the interpretation, intention or application
of any of the provisions of these Regulations or any matter not covered by these
Regulations, the decision of the Executive Council on that event shall be final and
binding.

 If the Major and the Minor subjects chosen by a student belong to the any of the Group(s)
mentioned above, then he/she shall have to choose Multi/Inter Disciplinary subject from one
of the rest other broad categories mentioned above provided that the subject is affiliated to
the college concerned by the University, only with the exception that the subject
Environmental Science or Computer Science may be chosen by the candidate irrespective of
affiliation.
 Broad category of Multi/Inter Disciplinary subject of a student shall be different from the
Broad category(ies) of his/her Major and Minor subjects and the subject chosen as Multi/Inter
Disciplinary in Semester I shall continue as Multi/Inter Disciplinary in subsequent semesters.
Composition of the above broad categories may be changed subject to affiliation and/or
disaffiliation decision of the competent authority of the University from time to time,
