MEE EVAPORATION - ZLD SYSTEM
Design & Process of Proposed 75 KLD ETP
This Treatment scheme has been designed to treat the effluent being generated
from Overflow Rinse waste water & Batch Discard waste water from Invert Level in
Metal powder coating industries. The Treatment of effluent is based on
Conventional technologies of phyco-Chemical coagulation and flocculation ,
followed by activated areation biological treatment , then effective multi-media
filteration, followed by membrane process of micro, ultrafiltration, & reverse
osmosis filtration to reclaim maximum pure water as recycling stream from waste
water, remaining ro reject water is evaporated in multi effect evaporator – MEE
system to obtain maximum condensate water to make on the whole ZLD – ZERO
LIQUID DISCHARGE SYSTEM for waster water recycling operation. At present we are
giving conventional water treatment process plan based of following phyco-
chemical reaction, Anaerobic & aerobic biological digestion, adsorption in fixed bed,
Ultra-filtration, reverse-osmosis membrane separation, and MEE and
MVR(mechanical Vapour Recompression)Evaporation, MEE (multi-effect
evaporator),and ATFE(agitated thin film Evaporator)
For above treatment, water treatment has to follow
1. PHYCO-CHEMICAL TREATMENT - Coaugulation & flocculation reaction
with effluent.
2. Primary sedimentation in lamella Settler, with DAF (Dissolved Air
Flotation)
3. Primary HRSCC Clarifier for sludge – liquid separation,
4. UASBR- Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Biological Reaction for high
COD
5. Value effluent.
6. Secondary Sedimentation by Activated Sludge process using
biochemical bacterial digestion of organic impurities containing
effluent with help of aeration followed by HRSCC.
7. sludge slurry dewatered by plate & frame filter press
8. Tertiary Treatment of clarified water filter through Chemical
Oxidation then Dual media , and Activated Carbon , and hold the
effluent in holding tank .
9. MEMBRANE-SEPARATION:- Tertiary Treated clarified water is filtered
through Ultra-filtration, followed by Reverse-Osmosis in two stages
then Nano-filteration . Then Reject of Nano-filteration is Evaporated
in Multi-effect Evaporator(MEE),and residue concentrate is Dry in
ATFE.

Process:- The proposed Effluent Treatment Plant of 200 KLD capacity for Textile
unit is Designed to carry out six levels of treatment , as described below:
 Preliminary Treatment :-Removal of large size solids such as rags, sticks, grit
by screening the effluent and then removal of floating impurities like oils &
Grease in floating trap tank.
 Primary Treatment :- Coagulation & Flocculation reaction of effluent , then
Removal of floating flocs & settable materials , i.e. Suspended solid and
organic matter.
 Secondary Treatment :- Removal of biodegradable organic mater and
suspended solids(Biological and Chemical);
 Tertiary Treatment :- Removal of Residual Suspended Solids and Colloidal
Solids (Physical , Chemical, Biological)
 Membrane Treatment :- Removal of Trace of Suspended Solid by
Ultrafiltration
Followed by Removal of Dissolved Solids(TDS) using Reverse-Osmosis
System in Two stages to obtain the high yield of permeate water. Then Ro
reject is filtered through Nano-filter membrane and collect Low TDS
Permeate.
 Evaporation:- The reject of Nono-filter membrane is high TDS Brine
that is evaporated in MVR(Mechanical Vapor Recompression)
Evaporator, followed by MEE(Multi-Effect Evaporator). And Residue
High concentrate is converted in salt solid in ATFE(Agitated Thin Film
Evaporator)

PROPOSED TREATMENT SCHEME:-


First effluent will be passed through Screen Chamber followed up by Oil & Grease
trap for removal of floating matter, rags, sticks, grit and oils etc. Then it will flow to
Equalization Tank (TANK No.1),where it will get homogenized, flow-wise as well as
characteristics wise, with help of coarse bubble aeration through Aeration grid
with air from twin lobe air-blower.

From Equalization Tank, Pumped effluent will dosed with suitable dose of
coagulant like lime , FeSO4 /FeCl3, AlSO4, PAC solution to produce settle able
flocks in FLASH TANK/ Rapid Mixing Tank (TANK No 2) , then the dosed effluent
will flow through a flocculating channel. The Flocculating Channel is flow
obstructive open channel.
From Flocculating Channel, The effluent will flow to FLOCCULATOR (TANK No 3)
where the effluent is allow to mix with polyelectrolyte BY LOW speed paddle
stirrer for complete homogenous distribution of coagulant and polyelectrolyte so
that efficient flocs could generated to provide better settling.
From FLOCCULATOR (Tank No 3) , The effluent will flow to Primary HRSCC-1
clarifier (TANK No 4) to remove the floating flocs and heavy solid settled at bottom
hopper. Reaction mass is allowed to settled for 4.0 to 5.0 hours in primery clarifier.
From Primary HRSCC-1 clarifier (Tank No 4), The effluent will flow to Primary Tube
Settler / Lamella Clarifier (TANK No 5) for efficient removal of settle able
suspended solids, colloidal particles. Sludge from bottom will periodically
removed and send to sludge holding tank (TANK No. 9)
From primary Tube settler/Lamella tube Clarifier (Tank No. 5), The effluent is
flown to Aeration Tank (Tank No.6), where the effluent is mixed with recycled bio-
mass sludge along with bacteria-growth nutrient component like Urea, DAP, and
set to proper Ph for efficient biodegradation of organic impurities. The effluent
flows to Aeration Tank (TANK No 6). Effluent at Aeration Tank AT, will undergo
aerobic bio-degradation whereby organic matter get converted in to bio-mass or
bio-sludge. Necessary oxygen needed for maintaining aerobic biological
degradation will be supplied by Membrane Diffuser via twin lobe blower.
Then the effluent from the Aeration-Tank (AT Tank No 6),will flow to Secondary
HRSCC Clarifier (TANK No 7).Here Bio-sludge will settle-down at bottom, which will
be pumped, and part of bio-sludge will be re-circulated back to Aeration Tank
(Tank No.6) to maintain required concentration of biomass MLSS. The liquid
suspension of micro-organisms in an aeration tank is generally referred to as
mixed liquor and the biological growths are called Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid
(MLSS).
Excess Bio-sludge will be taken to Sludge Holding Tank(TANK No. 9).Sludge from
the bottom of both the clarifier, viz, Primary clarifier, primary tube settler &
Secondary HRSCC Clarifier , are collected to the Sludge Holding Tank(Tank No.
9),thereby the sludge slurry is filtered in plate & frame filter press , and cake is
send to solar sludge drying pond, and filtrate is sent back to equalization Tank
(Tank No.1)
The Effluent from top of Secondary Clarifier (Tank No7) is send to Treated Effluent
Sump / Secondary Holding Tank (Tank No.10),The Secondary treated effluent is
chemically oxidized with oxidizing agent like Sodium Hypo chloride (NaOCl),
Hydrogene-peroxide(H202), or Ozone(O3) so that remained COD could oxidize.
thereby it will be pumped and passed through duel media pressure sand filter
followed by Activated Carbon filter, and then Tertiary treated water is collected in
Tertiary holding Tank (Tank No-8), This will be also called Ultra-filtration Feed Tank.
Tertiary Treated effluent from Tank No-8, is pumped to Ultra-filtration Membrane
and its Permeate water is collected in RO-feed Tank(Tank No-10),and Reject water
of Ultra-filtration system is send back to the Equalization Tank (Tank No-1).Back-
wash and CEP/CIP water are also send back to the Equalization Tank (Tank No-1).
From Ultra-filtration Permeate Tank / RO-Feed Tank (Tank No-10) is Pumped to
RO-System 1st Stage, and permeate Water is collected in RO-permeate Tank(Tank-
No 11), While the Reject water is collected in intermediate RO-1 st stage Reject
Tank (Tank No-12). Reject water of 1st stage from Tank No-12 , is pumped to 2 nd
stage RO system, and Permeate water of 2 nd stage RO system is send to Common
RO permeate Tank (Tank No-11). And RO reject of 2 nd stage is collected in RO-2nd
stage Reject Tank (Tank No-13).
RO-2nd stage Reject from Tank No-13, is pumped to Nano-membrane system.
Thereby reject is collected in Nano-filter reject tank (Tank-No15), while Permeate
is collected in Permeate Tank(Tank-No 14). Nano-filter Reject from Tank No-15,is
send to Balance tank of MEE System. Condensate is collected in Ro-permeate Tank
No-11.
