Literature Review Reflection
While doing academic research I learned that the information that is presented can be
used to distinguish similarities and differences in the authors’ work. Authors may be alike or
differ in their findings, which was needed for the construction of this paper. This skill is useful
for other sources when I must correlate information or distinguish between their differences and
explain in detail their findings and the correlation between them. This skill also helps when
needing an understating of two sides to a situation.
From the annotated bibliography transferring to the literature review, I learned that
information must be more detailed and backed up with quotes from the authors. To create the
literature review I relied on the annotated bibliography to gain my eight sources. The annotated
bibliography also aided me in providing me with a brief summary and recollection of what each
source mentioned. Although the annotated bibliography gave me a recollection of the sources,
the major information I obtained for the literature review was from going back to the articles.
The annotated bibliography did though help me with picking and choosing my sources and the
authors' names as well as giving me an idea of what I had to write.
The creation of this literature review helped me in my research by comparing and
contrasting the information that each author presented and concluded. Most of my sources have a
relation with their information for the expectation of one. The information these authors
presented mainly correlated with each other since the conclusions and results were alike. This
literature also helped my research by seeing two perspectives in the same situation and how it
was proven. Not all sources will present the same information and results due to different
perspectives of a situation.
Feedback always helps me improve my paper a lot especially when it’s given by the
professor. My first draft was relatively short, so not many corrections were given. However, the
feedback my professor gave me was toward my thesis which is probably the major component of
an essay. The thesis is the heart of the essay and with the feedback my professor gave me, I had
to improve. My professor stated that I must combine the sentences for my thesis rather than
separating them. I was troubled in combining the sentences due to not being able to use the right
words for them to be understandable. The reason for my separation was that I couldn’t state the
reasoning for social media having a negative impact without it sounding foolish. During the
conference my classmates and I had, I was granted extra aid in my paper’s thesis. My classmate,
Juwy suggested the same as the professor and further gave me an example of how I could
combine and create my thesis statement into one. Another piece of feedback my professor
suggested what to better my use of pronouns in the sense of mentioning “authors” instead of

referring them as “them” or ‘there”. I made this change in my paper by referring to the authors
properly or by their name which improves my paper for the readers’ understanding.
The peer review with my classmate helped me improve my paper by fixing the structure
of the essay and the lack of information I presented. My classmate brought to my attention my
thesis as well. My thesis lacked a connection which I previously stated I had trouble with. My
classmate also mentioned my lack of citation which also includes my page numbers. I was aware
that I lacked these things because I wasn’t sure of the proper way to do it, but with an
explanation from my ACE tutor, I had a better understanding of how to cite my quotes. My
classmate mainly corrected my structure since it was off in some areas. I made these changes to
my paper because structure is part of the grading points in the rubric which is a simple way to
obtain the points.
The most challenging part of this essay was presenting my information. I genuinely had
little to no understanding of what the prompt was asking me to do before asking my friend and
ACE tutor. Although I know the main key point of the essay was to distinguish similarities and
differences in the sources used, I was troubled when it came to presenting the proper
information. I didn’t know what information was needed to construct the paper but similarities
and differences. I overcame this challenge with the help of my friend and ACE tutor. I still had
doubts, so I asked them to look at the prompt and explain to me what the prompt meant to them.
In this paper, the least challenging aspect was choosing my sources from the annotated
bibliography. I intended to make this literature review somewhat easier for me, so I went about
choosing sources that I knew had similar conclusions and relations. As well as the only
difference I had. I can say that choosing my sources and having an idea of what to write about
was the least challenging in this whole essay.
