A secret bureau has hired you to help them with a
special mission. They need you to deliver the secret
USB to the office for pick up by the undercover
commander.
The problem is there are traitors and rival spies
everywhere. You will need to carry the USB in a
purse, wallet or small bag to throw the rebel
opposition off the scent.
Your role is to design this vessel in a way that it
will not come under suspicion. It must look just like
a regular purse, wallet or small bag, but it needs a
secret pocket to hide and protect the USB.
Are you ready to take on this challenge Agent X?

In order to design this carrier, you will first need to discover the tools, materials and equipment
required for this mission.
Are you ready to continue? We know you are ready for this challenge, but you will need grit,
resilience and determination.

description and an example.
Hand sewing needles To sew by hand
Fabric shears
To cut accurately
Cotton fabric Use to make items
Fabric markers To draw on fabric temporarily
Pin cushion To put the pins in the cushion and not have them lying
around and hurt someone
Safety Audit: Identify 5 safety rules that must be obeyed when using these tools.
Passing scissors safely with the blade in your hand and handle facing the person you’re passing to.
Keep stray pins in the pin cushion.
Don’t pick the pins up with your hands. Use the magnet.
Keep the iron upright when not in use.
Make sure to unplug and turn switch off after use.
Keep your hair out of the way as it can be damaged with the sharp tools.

CHALLENGE 2 Continued: Match up the sewing machine parts with their purpose.
A Bobbin Winder Connected to the sewing machine by a power cord. Just like an accelerator pedal in a car, you press it down to make the needle go.
The harder you press, the faster it moves. When you let go, the needle stops.
B Bobbin Winder Used to form a stitch in the garments you are sewing. Can be tightened by the needle clamp screw which holds the needle in its actual
Tension Disc place.
C Feed Dogs A metal plate which is situated under the needle and presser foot. It helps to move the fabric forward during sewing.
D Foot pedal (not The machine will sew in the reverse while the lever is pushed.
shown)
E Hand Wheel It holds the fabric in its definite place whilst sewing. There are a variety of these used in sewing for various
purposes for example, sewing zippers on.
F Needle Controls the amount of pressure use by the presser foot to hold the fabric down against the feed dogs.
G Needle Throat During sewing the fabric, top thread passes through the thread take-up lever. Sewing thread take-up lever moves up and down
Plate with the sewing needle.
H Presser Foot During sewing, these pull the fabric forward.
I Presser Foot Lever Used to control the length of the stitch.
J Pressure Regulator Dial used to select the desired stitch style.
K Shuttle Cover This determines the tightness or looseness of the stitch.
L Spool Pin This is a small hole that guides the thread from the spool to the needle.
M Stitch Length Dial Thread guide used to keep thread tension ideal during bobbin winding.
N Stitch Selector This controls the width of the zigzag stitch.
Stitch Width Dial The primary function of this part is to raise or lower the foot level.
(not shown):
O Take Up Lever Holds the spool of thread.
P Thread Guide Houses the bobbin.
Q Tension Control During winding, the bobbin is placed here. When the bobbin reaches its optimum capacity the bobbin winder stopper prevents the
(top thread) bobbin winding further.
R Reverse Stitch Used to raise and lower the needle manually, which is situated on the right side of the sewing machine.
