AIMS: Talking about shops/buildings/places; Asking for and giving directions
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- use, recognize and write correctly words related to buildings/
shops/places;
- ask for and give directions;
- read fluently the text;
- match correctly the definitions with the places/buildings;
- use the new information in other contexts;
- listen for specific information;

METHODS:
reading, conversation, exercise, pair work, role-play, explanation
MATERIALS:
books, copybooks, pictures, handouts, whiteboard, blue and pink cards
WARM-UP:
# informal conversation;
HOMEWORK CHECK-UP:
# T checks up orally Ss’ homework and corrects it in the same time;
LEAD IN:
# the announcement of the new lesson;
# the song “ The wheels on the bus” 5’
ACTIVITY 1 : Guess
OBJECTIVE: to identify the correct building/
place for each definition
PROCEDURE:
1. T gives half of the Ss blue cards with definitions of
places/ buildings and the other half pink cards with T –Ss 6’
them;
2. T explains the task; S-S

3. Each student with a blue card reads the definition


and the student with the correct job on his/her card
will answer and will take a sit next to his colleague;
4. T announces that they will need their new partners
for the following exercises ;

ACTIVITY 2: New in town (ex. 3/41)


OBJECTIVES: - to identify and write down the
correct expressions for asking and giving directions;
- to answer the questions correctly
PROCEDURE:
5. T asks Ss to look at ex 3/41 and at the map on page T –Ss 8’

6. T goes through the instructions and questions
eliciting/ presenting the words in bold in the same
time (turn left/right, take the first turning on the
left/right, go along);
7. T asks and writes on the whiteboard the expressions
used for asking and giving directions giving the
appropriate explanations ;
ACTIVITY 3: ex. 4a/ page 41
OBJECTIVES: - to complete the dialogue with
the missing expressions;
- to read fluently the text; 12’
- to listen for specific information;

PROCEDURE:
1. T explains the tasks;
2. Ss complete the dialogue with missing T – Ss
expressions; IW
3. Ss read in pairs the dialogue; PW
4. T plays the CD, twice if necessary;
5. Ss listen and check their answers.

ACTIVITY 4 : Excuse me, could you help me?


OBJECTIVES: - to practise asking for and giving
directions;
PROCEDURE:
1. T gives the handouts, explains the task and solicits
a volunteer; T – Ss 12’
2. T with that volunteer demonstrate the dialogue;
3. In pairs, Ss act out similar dialogues; PW
4. T asks some pairs to perform in front of the class;

5. T corrects if necessary.
ACTIVITY 5 (extra): Simon says (game)
OBJECTIVE: to respond to different commands
PROCEDURE:
1. T explains the rules; T – Ss 4’
2. Ss respond to T’s or other student’s commands S-S
(Simon says:Turn right, Turn left, Walk, Run etc.)
EVALUATION: 2’
T tells the Ss his/her conclusions related to their work and congratulates them.
