Computing[Types, History, Benefits, Characteristics, Challenges ]: type of Cloud
Computing services uses now a days. The lecture will make the student familiar
with Cloud Technology
Characteristic’s of Cloud Computing
1. On-demand self-service: Users can provision computing resources and services
automatically without requiring human interaction with service providers.
2. Broad network access: Cloud services are accessible via the internet from any device
or location.
3. Resource pooling: Cloud providers combine resources from multiple customers into a
shared infrastructure, allowing for more efficient resource utilization and cost savings.
4. Rapid elasticity: Cloud computing allows for the quick and easy scaling of resources to
meet changing demand.
5. Measured service: Cloud providers monitor and measure resource usage, allowing for
more accurate billing and resource allocation.
Benefits Cloud Computing
1. Cost savings: Cloud computing can reduce the need for costly on-premises hardware
and software.
2. Scalability: Cloud computing enables businesses to easily scale up or down their
computing resources as needed, allowing them to respond quickly to changes in
demand.
3. Accessibility: Cloud computing allows users to access their resources from anywhere
with an internet connection, making it easier to work remotely and collaborate with
others.
4. Flexibility: Cloud computing offers a range of deployment models, such as public,
private, and hybrid clouds, allowing businesses to choose the solution that best fits
their needs.
5.Increased collaboration: Cloud computing enables real-time collaboration between
teams, making it easier to work on projects together and share information.
Challenge's Cloud Computing
1. Security: The cloud introduces new security risks, such as data breaches and
unauthorized access, that need to be carefully managed.
2. Compliance: Businesses need to ensure that their cloud solution complies with
relevant laws and regulations, such as GDPR and HIPAA.
3. Reliability: Cloud providers can experience downtime and service interruptions,
which can impact business operations.
4. Vendor lock-in: Businesses may become dependent on a single cloud provider,
making it difficult to switch to another provider if needed.
5. Integration: Migrating to the cloud requires careful integration with existing IT
infrastructure and applications, which can be complex and time-consuming.
History of Cloud Computing
❑ During 1961, John MacCharty delivered his speech at MIT that “Computing Can be sold as a
Utility, like Water and Electricity.” According to John MacCharty it was a brilliant idea. But
people at that time don’t want to adopt this technology. They thought the technology they
are using efficient enough for them. So, this concept of computing was not appreciated
much so and very less will research on it. But as the time fleet the technology caught the
idea after few years this idea is implemented. So, this is implemented by Salesforce.com in
1999. This company started delivering an enterprise application over the internet and this
way the boom of Cloud Computing was started.
❑ In 2002, Amazon started Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon will provide storage,
computation over the internet. In 2006 Amazon will launch Elastic Compute Cloud
Commercial Service which is open for Everybody to use.
❑ After that in 2009, Google Play also started providing Cloud Computing Enterprise
Application as other companies will see the emergence of cloud Computing they also started
providing their cloud services. Thus, in 2009, Microsoft launch Microsoft Azure and after that
other companies like Alibaba, IBM, Oracle, HP also introduces their Cloud Services. In today
the Cloud Computing become very popular and important skill.
Types of Cloud Computing
❖ There are three main types of clouds in cloud computing: Public cloud, Private cloud,
and Hybrid cloud. Each type has its own characteristics and benefits.
Public Cloud: A public cloud is a cloud infrastructure that is owned and managed by a
third-party cloud service provider. In a public cloud, computing resources such as
servers, storage, and applications are shared across multiple organizations. Public cloud
services are typically available to anyone over the internet on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Examples of public cloud providers include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft
Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
❖ Benefits of public cloud:
1. Cost-effective: Pay-as-you-go pricing model can be more cost-effective than investing
in on-premises hardware and software.
2. Scalability: Can quickly scale up or down resources to meet changing demand.
3. Accessibility: Services can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection.
Important Questions
1. What is Community Cloud?
2. Explain the History of Cloud Computing in Brief.
