Minnie was a white mouse living in a cage in Tom’s house. Tom treated her very well and looked

Question 22
Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

One day, a mousedeer was searching for fruit near a river. He noticed that there were a lot of fruit
trees on the other side of the river. He thought to himself, ‘How can I go to the other side? There are
a lot of crocodiles in the river but the fruits are so tempting.’

So, he decided to play a trick on the crocodiles. ‘Hello, Mr Crocodile. The King of the Jungle
asked me to count the number of crocodiles in the river. You have to call your friends to line up
across this river. Then I will count all of you one by one,’ said the mousedeer.

The crocodiles soon queued up in a line. The clever mousedeer started counting, ‘One, two,
three……’

Finally, he reached the other side of the river. ‘You silly crocodiles. I wanted to eat the sweet
mangoes so I played a trick on all of you.’ He laughed heartily and started running away from the
riverbank.

The crocodiles were very angry for being tricked by the mousedeer. Meanwhile, the clever
mousedeer was enjoying himself on the abundant fruits.

Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

Lui Kang is a farmer. He and his wife live on a farm in a small village in China. One day, Lui
Kang said to his wife, ‘You are lazy. You work slowly and lethargically. You waste your time.’

Lui Kang’s wife was very angry. She said to her husband, ‘You are wrong. Stay at home
tomorrow. I will go to the field. I will do your work there. Will you do my chores at home?’ Lui Kang
agreed happily.

The next morning, Lui Kang’s wife woke up very early and said to her husband, ‘Milk the
cow. Feed the pigs. Wash the utensils. Take care of our hens. Spin the yarn.’ Then, off she went to
the field.

Lui Kang stayed at home. He took a bucket and went to milk the cow. He tried to milk it but
he received a good kick from it. He then went to the pigsty. He hit his head against the beam. Next,
he went to feed the hens but he did not know where his wife had kept the grains and seeds. After that,
he went to spin the yarn but he had forgotten how to do it.

When it was evening, Lui Kang’s wife returned from the field. Lui Kang hung his head in
shame. From that day onwards, he did not find fault with his wife. They lived happily together for a
long time.
