Preface to the Thirteenth Edition

The special and technical subject of Conveyancing which fcrrna an

integral part of the legal profession has been given a p:actical shape in
Oe.ou-. wyancing which can claim tc h3 a bcek on the subject. ith
a difference.

- While revising the work we have been conscious of the fact that ,,t has
earned a reputation of being the only book of its kind throughout tle last
si decades and we have tried to be as careful as possible to maintain its
standard of excellence and the object of the book.
Enlarged and reoriented this revised edition is enriched with an
abund-ance of materials distributed in several chapters with appirate
models and precedents. Each chapter deals with a specific subject and is
prefaced with an adequate exposition of the legal principles involved
and suitable guidelines have been indicated with a view to their practical
application.

We have added several new subjects including Joint Venture, Foreign

Collaboration, Franchising, Lease Financing of Equipment, Consumer
Protection Act, Apartment Ownership, Promoters' Loan Agreement with
relevant model forms in the background of the fact that India is a member
of the WTO and multinationals and NRI's have become a part of the
industrial and commercial scenario of the country.

Case laws have been updated as far as possible incorporating recent

decisions of the Supreme Court and of the different High Courts. We are
confident that the book will be of immense assistance not only to the
members of the legal profession besides draftsmen and general

Preface to the First Edition

The Publication of this book, the first of its kind, is int.nded to supply a
long standing want felt both by Legal Practitioners and business men,
for a suitable guide in drawing up their documents, such as used in British
India, in a precise and correct manner.
The book is divided into two parts, the first containing model forms of
all kinds of documents and legal instruments, very carefully selected and
arranged into different chapters, and the second being a set of the most
important petitions to Courts.
As the book is designed for the use of laymen as well, comprthensjve
notes embodying all the important law regarding the documents and
petitions have been given at the foot of each chapter, and at the end of the
second part, so that every educated person will be in a position to prepare
his own documents independently of any professional aid.
My best thanks are due to Mr. M.K. Padhey, P1eader, Nagpur, for
helping me with his valuable suggestions in the course of the preparation
of the book, and also to my other fiends, who have been so kind as to give
me their assistance in various ways.
Suggestions from kind readers for further improvement of the book in
the subsequent editions will be most gratefully acknowledged, and it is
hoped that its publication will prove to be very useful, and will meet with
appreciation and encouragement from the public.
