Meter Data Management System

(MDMS)
The Meter Data Management System (MDMS) supports storage, archival,
retrieval and analysis of meter data and various other MIS systems. In
addition, it validates and verifies algorithms.

MDMS has the capability to import raw or validated data in defined formats and
export the processed and validated data to various other systems sources and
services in the agreed format. It also provides validated data for upstream
systems such as billing, consumer information systems, customer care,
analytics, reporting, network planning & analysis, load analysis/forecasting,
peak load management, and outage management amongst others.

Features of the MDMS

Demand control/ demand response Outage management support
• Demand response • Fault location identification
• Peak load management • Updation of data post fault
• Net metering support attending
• Pre-paid metering support

Asset management Revenue protection support

• GIS-supplied information • Analysis of meter tampering flags,
• Status of meters and power outages, usage trends and
communication equipment usage profiles
• History of in-service asset location • Configurable business rules for
alerts via a user-friendly interface

Head End System (HES)
The Head End System (HES) automatically acquires meter data, thereby
avoiding any human intervention. It then monitors parameters acquired
from these meters. HES is designed on an open platform based on a
distributed architecture to ensure scalability.

Key features
• Acquires meter data on demand and at user-defined periodicity
• Two-way communication with the meter
• Signals for connect and disconnect
• Audit trail and event & alarm logging
• Communication device status and history
• Encryption of data for secure communication
• Stores raw data for a defined duration
• Maintains time sync with the meter
• Handles control signals / event messages on priority
• Ability to set up smart meter configurable parameters
