Part three: Reading. Read the story about Andrea's vacation below and then answer the
questions that follow. (12 points)
I'm so excited for summer vacation! My family and I always fly to California
every June to visit my grandmother. My dad makes the reservation online with the airline, and he
also checks the weather forecast to see what kind of clothes we should bring. My mom sometimes
helps me pack my suitcase with clothes, a hairbrush, toothbrush, and swimming suit for the trip. I
also pack a carry-on with my wallet, a jacket, and a book to read during the flight. This year I will
also bring my school picture to give as a present (gift) to my grandmother.
I don't like going through the airport before our flight; the terminal is so crowded and the
line at the check-in counter can be so long. Then after we check our luggage we have to stand in
line again to go through security! I really don't like to empty my pockets, take off my shoes, and put
everything in a tray to be checked. However, after that things aren't so bad. We ride the escalator
(lift) to go to our gate, and sit in the departure lounge until our flight is ready for boarding. Usually
my mom will give my brother and I some money to buy ice cream at one of the terminal restaurants
while we are waiting. We never fight about who gets the window seat because my mom makes us
take turns; I get to sit there going to California, and my brother gets it when we go home.
My grandmother will come to the airport to meet us, and go with us to get our luggage from
the baggage claim. I'm glad we don't have to go through customs because I'm always happy to leave
the airport as soon as possible ( cang som cang tot)! We will spend the next two weeks playing at
the beach, shopping, and visiting attractions. I love our summer vacation!
