STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal

It is the courage to continue that counts”
Winston Churchill

I strongly believe in the above saying, in other words we should not give up any
challenges or tasks which we take up. Dedication and hard work are the key factors in
achieving success and I am proud that I have them in me.

I wish to pursue an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have been living

with this wish of pursuing MS degree right from my school days, which was the basic
reason behind opting for Engineering, specifically mechanical engineering during my
graduation. I got admitted to one of the reputed colleges in India SIDDAGANGA
INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY run by a peer who is a scholar Dr.Shivakumara
Swamiji and aged 101. It was started in 1963 and till now it has produced thousands of
quality engineers who are catering their service to many of the leading organizations
around the world. With 100 percent campus placements it attracts hundreds of students
all around the country. I really enjoyed studying mechanical engineering through out the
course and realized its importance, application, contribution to mankind.

It was during my 3rd year of the course when I started liking the subject “Mechanical
Design. Design is the building block of engineering which in turn leads to innovation,
through out my course I could notice the influence of design on all the engineering
systems.

We carried out a project during last year of engineering, the title of the project was
“Design and Fabrication of Roof Top Luggage Carrier” for four wheelers. It was then
my desire towards pursuing MS grew much bigger. The reason was the project, since it
was an innovative concept it gave us chance to put forward our ideas, to know the
essence of team work, to experience the satisfaction how it feels when something which
comes out of our own hands starts working. It was amazing, hence I made up my mind
that if I want to prove myself and achieve something in life I have to do masters.
But soon after my last semester’s exams I got recruited by a German company by name
MHB Filter India Private limited which is a joint venture company between
MANN+HUMMEL Gmbh and ROBERT BOSCH. Initially I was in dilemma whether
to pursue my masters or to join this company then later I decided to work for few years,
gain industrial experience and then to pursue MS which was also demanded by most of
the universities all over the world.

I joined this company on 10th of July 2006, we produce automotive filters for all the four
wheelers, trucks, buses, tractors basically after market filters. The brand name MICO
BOSCH is very popular in India. We also cater to the most renowned OEM’s in India
namely TATA, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, Eicher etc. We do lot of exports
also to most of the Asian countries. Now we have started the product launch of MANN
Filters in India and we are trying to build market for MANN Filters. My area of work in
our company is Purchase and Vendor Development from the day 1, which has made me a
Techno Commercial guy. It was a green field project in the other words brand new
company which had started few months before I joined.

I was one among the 1st batch of engineers who got recruited. Every day was challenge
for us, we had enough opportunities for learning which is true now also. My career kick
started with a bang.

Since it is an assembly plant 100 percent parts have to be bought from outside during
start up we had tough time in locating potential vendors accessing his
capacity, experience, quality, cost, delivery. Initially we had to buy from northern India and
later on we localized 50% of the parts. In 3 yrs we have ramped up from ‘0’ products to
150 running products with an annual turn over of 500 million INR.

I have been trained for APQP/PPAP, Control Plan, FMEA and other quality tools like
Process capability study, Gauge R&R, 8D approach, 5S Technique, Pareto analysis
and also I am trained and certified as an Internal Auditor by TUV NORD.
Adding to my key learning and track record we successfully completed TS 16949
Certification audit by TUV during MAR 08 and I am very proud that I represented
PURCHASE & VENDOR DEVELOPMENT function. I am a key user of SAP in MM
module, currently I have been promoted as Senior .Engineer in June 2009.

With this above background I would like to pursue masters at your university. So please
help me realizing my dream by giving me chance to study at your university.

Yours sincerely,

Kiran Megalakoppalu Krishnappa
