Art Appreciation Activities
Activity 1.
You will be given preliminary clarifications on assumptions about art. In the first column, you will list
down striking encounters with arts. On the second column, you will explain each encounter.
My encounters with Arts Why?
1. An exotic car 1. In 2018, in a family vacation we went
to Butuan. There, I saw an exotic Mazda
RX7 car that had many body upgrades
and vinyl in them. I recognize the car
because I played a lot of racing games at
that time. It was colored silver, it had a
very big spoiler and upgraded bumper,
side-skirts, and rear bumpers, with a lot
of vinyl’s all over its body.
2. Talented cousin painter 2. I have a cousin named Kent Manitas.
He is a very talented painter and
sketcher. I once saw a portrait of another
one of my cousins made by him years
ago.
3. Abstract art 3. I once saw a painting of art that was
just some random paints splashed all over
it. The person who painted it said it was
art. I thought otherwise and said it was
just a bad painting. That is, Until I
learned that “Abstract Art” exist.
4. High school 4. When I was in high school, we had a
subject that made us make projects like
this. I think the subject was MAPEH. It
was quite a hassle to make all of my art
projects and dances.
5.Art Appreciation 5. This subject is one of my encounters
of art in life. I can’t say that I enjoyed it
really. Art has always been one of my
most hated subjects back when I was in
high school, in the same level as math
related subjects.
After listing down striking encounters with arts, you need to answer the following guide questions in a

Worst Day Ever?
Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don’t try to convince me that
There’s something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.
And it’s not true that
It’s all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be obtained
Only if one’s surroundings are good
It’s not true that good exist
I’m sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It’s all beyond my control
And you’ll never in a million years hear me say that
Today was a good day.s

MY DREAM
by Jorge Steven Floria
Hello, my name is Jorge Steven Floria. I am from Cagdianao Dinagat Islands, an
archipelago on the southeast of the Philippines, north of where I am currently living and
schooling, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
I am currently going to Saint Paul University Surigao in 2021. I came to this
school of education because I think that this was the best school that was near from
where I live. I enrolled in Criminal Justice Education, because I believe that it was
something that I can succeed in and be comfortable at the same time.
I want to become a successful person in the future. Not just success with finance
and career, but also in happiness and being regarded as a professional. There have
been a lot of difficulties here and there, but I always think to myself whenever these
situations arise, “I’ve survived much worse, it’ll be okay in the end”. I’ve had this mindset
since becoming a college student. Now all I have to do is survive and thrive in my time
as a student here.

X. Activity 5. Film Analysis
1. Analyze the story, and present proposals/solutions on the problems portrayed in the film.

(Miracle in cell #7)
This story is all about a mentally ill father and his young daughter. The mentally ill father
in the story is falsely accused of murder and rape. He is taken to prison and is tortured by the
guards and put in cell number 7. This is where most of the comedy takes place. They made
their prison cell a very bearable place, so much so that even the fathers’ daughter can hide
and stay with them. The movie shows us that you can be someone as high up as a Police
Commissioner, but a disgusting personality. Or someone as simple-minded as the father in
this story, but with a good heart. Rankings and positions really do not determine a person.
Sometimes things are more delightful when it's not complicated, as long as we know to
appreciate and cherish all that we have.
Solutions: The problem with the story is that the father is falsely accused of a crime he did not
commit. The solution to this problem would have been to further investigate the case, instead
of it being settled, finding that the whole ordeal that happened was an accident.
After film showing you need to answer the following questions.
• Characters and characterization
Lee Yong Gu (Ryu Seung Ryong) is an intellectually impaired man, although mentally
disabled, he is not emotionally disabled, he is still very much capable of showing good
emotions especially to his daughter.
Ye Seung (Gal So Won) is a young girl, naïve but loving, he cares so much about those
people close to her and makes friends easily, especially with the cellmates.
Police Commissioner (Jo Duk Hyun), is a vengeful man, hellbent on avenging his
daughter death by giving Yong Gu the death sentence.
• Setting
The setting for the story is in Daejeon, South Korea
• Theme (application to present conditions/problems in the country)
The theme of the story is redemption, the reminder that people who have committed
crimes, as well as prison authorities, can change and see their own actions and the
actions of others in ways that are the opposite of their own first impressions.
• What are the societal problems portrayed in the film?
The societal problem shown is that emotion can sometimes cloud one’s judgement, just
like what happened to the police commissioner.
• What proposals in order to address the societal problems portrayed in the film?
Practicing being calm in stressing situations can be a solution to being too emotional
when you are needed to think clearly.

Activity 8. Walk in Gallery
1. All your outputs must be display in your room and take a picture with yourself.
Note: Please wear your proper uniform with your id.
Final Requirement: Make a reflection paper for each activity.
Activity 1: Reflection
In this activity, I was requested to write my striking encounters with arts throughout my life. I
wrote that I once saw an exotic car. A Mazda RX7 with custom vinyls and body kit. I also wrote that I
had a talented cousin in art. I saw abstract art, just some random splashes of paint, I don’t really
consider that art. My tiring encounters with art when I was in high school, and finally this encounter,
which was also tiring since I am really bad at art. I was also requested to make a concept map about
what Art appreciation is, which in my opinion, is literally can be anything when many people consider
it to be art, meaning art can be subjective. What is the scope of art appreciation, which again, can be
anything people who consider it to be. The importance of art in one’s life, it can be important if it is a
big part of your life. And finally, the functions of art appreciation, which is to produce thinking and
encourage understanding to human culture and history.
Activity 2: Reflection
In this activity we made art that is related to the front liners with the theme “Heroism and tribute
to our Front liners”, I made a painting showing frontliners doing surgery to the Philippine flag. I made
a house made of popsicle sticks; I made it when it was close to the deadline so it looked so bad. I
also made rock painting, showing a beautiful beach. Finally, soap carving which I carved a perla soap
into a book. I really, really don’t like making anything related to art, but I did anyway because it was
required of me to do so. Arts, the bane of my existence.
Activity 3: Reflection
In Activity is performance arts. We made a dance presentation for our professor and we
presented it to our sir in the karate room. It really was not as much of a hassle as activity 2, because
it was easy and there were many of us, so there was very little pressure.
Activity 4: Reflection
In this activity I made a prose essay titled, “My Dream”. It was about telling who I am, my
origins, and what is my ultimate goal in life. I wrote my name, where I am from, where went to school
in the past and where I am currently schooling. I wrote that my dream was to be successful in my
chosen profession. I felt good writing this, I don’t really have any other medium to express myself
other than writing so this was actually fun to make.
Activity 5: Reflection
In this activity, I was required to watch the film, “Miracle in Cell #7”. I chose to watch the
Korean version, because it was easily accessible. It was a film about a mentally disabled father and
her lovely daughter. The father was falsely accused of murder and rape. He was put inside a cell
numbered “7”, alongside five other inmates, they smuggled the father’s daughter but was caught by
the warden. He pleaded guilty to protect his daughter and was sentenced to death, because of this
they tried to make an escape plan but was again thwarted. The film was kind of hard to watch for me
since I could not really relate to it and I’m not really into fluff and drama, but I endured and finished it.
Activity 6: Reflection
Activity 7: Reflection
In this activity I was required to make 2 methods of representing art subjects in different
methods. I made about 2 visual arts in this activity in illustration board, I one with only oil pastil while I
did the other with paint brush. This was part of this module that was tiring me because I had to make
two of them, but I hope it will be worth it.
Activity 8: Reflection
This activity was quite a hassle because it said that I must put all of my output in display and
take a picture of myself. But all of my outputs were back in my boarding house in Surigao because I
forgot to bring them with me home in Dinagat. So, I had to go back to Surigao just for this purpose
and came back the same day. And then I remembered that I also forgot to bring my ID with me with
me and I felt so exhausted at that point I just did not bother to go back and wrote this the day after
that.
