Mock Conference Reflection
After completing the mock conference with my group members Mikayla and Madison, I
feel like we learned a lot and there is lots of room for improvement just like with anything in life
that you do for the first time and can prepare for the next time. For the first scenario, I was
student two, the parent was Mikayla, and the teacher was Madison. For the second scenario it
was Madison as the student three, I was the parent, and Mikayla was the teacher. For the last
scenario, I had to redo my portion as the teacher because we were trying to figure out
something regarding the recording video but I was the teacher, the parent was Madison, and the
student was Mikayla. Throughout all of our three different student report cards for the mock
conference, I feel that we all had some areas of improvement we needed to work on to do better
next time and that we felt that we needed more instruction. Personally, I felt that we all could not
stop laughing because we were all nervous and sweating by the end of each conference as the
student, teacher, and parent. It went well, however, when put on the spot, I froze and did not
know what to say right away and stuttered and had to think a lot. I feel that with more practice
and time I will be able to perform a better mock conference or real conference with parents and
that it will be easier talking to an actual family and parents of the student that I have in my class
that way I know what's actually going on, strengths and weaknesses, and can be more serious
and accurate with my responses. Some things I learned from this process and experience with
this mock conference is that I need to be very professional and focused when it comes to
meeting with the parents and know what I am going to say and focus on the positives to start
with as well as give the parents the opportunity to be open and express any questions or
concerns they may have regarding anything I talked about and their child or things that I might
need to know to better help the student from there on out. Another thing I learned was to be
patient and open to hearing what the parents have to say as well as make the parents and
families feel comfortable and welcomed into the classroom to express their thoughts and ideas
which may be hard to do with the child present, however, some families, it may be hard to not
bring their child with them and so I need to be prepared for the student to be there and prepared
for what to say and how to go about the conversation and information presented to them and
from the parents.
