STATEMENT OF
PURPOSE
Statement of Purpose

This portfolio is a constantly changing collection of records that reflect my

accomplishments, skills, and experience as an intern teacher. It highlights and displays samples

of some of my best work, as well as my daily experiences as a pre-service teacher.

The personal information I include in this portfolio can serve as both a reflection of my

abilities as an individual and a useful tool in becoming an effective teacher. This portfolio

contains the challenges that I encountered during my internship.

In this portfolio, I present an overview of my student teaching experience that

demonstrates my own understanding of teaching as well as a compilation that will assist me in

defining my teaching styles. My students' initial thoughts and feedback are also included. This

portfolio is a record of my various understandings, such as how to deal with various problems

encountered during field practice. I also include significant evidence from my classroom

instruction, such as daily lesson plans and instructional materials. Every week, I also reflected on

the classes I taught.

This portfolio is proof of my hard work during my field practice. It demonstrates how

hard I worked and how I overcame those sleepless nights creating lesson plans and instructional

materials. And how I try my hardest to satisfy my cooperating teacher.

MY PRAYER
A Student Teacher’s Prayer

Dearest God, I humbly ask for your forgiveness for all of my sins. If I failed to do my job

the other day, please guide me as I prepare to be a better version of myself and sincerely accept

the Holy Spirit to rule my heart and mind.

I praise you, Lord, for everything, especially the new day you give me to start a life that I

can share with my students. Thank you for watching and for the guidance that you have provided

throughout my journey. Thank you also, Lord, for bringing me to school safe and for giving me a

healthy condition every time I do my duty. I am sorry for the things that I have cried about and

yelled at my prayers because of the struggles that I have been through in this student-teacher life.

I know that I am nothing without you, Lord, and I am so blessed to survive.

May the things and lessons that I share with my students help them grow and learn. May

the knowledge that I have imparted to them bring them a brighter future, and may they share it

with those who are in need. Guide my students, Lord; give them a good, easy life, and they may

not see the things that are very complicated and hard.
I recognize that I am not perfect, but I also recognize that you are available to assist me in

transforming my weaknesses into strengths. This is what I ask of you, Lord Jesus Christ, who

lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit as one God, forever and ever.

Lastly, I am very proud that you used me to help my students achieve their future dreams,

and I hope this journey will be truly remembered and sealed in our hearts. I glorify you, oh Lord,

and thank you for allowing me to do this job.

PRACTICE
TEACHING SITE

Let’s Explore New Ormoc City National High School (NOCNHS)

( School Description )

On January 1, 1990, New Ormoc City National High School was established. The Leader

School of Excellence, New Ormoc City National High School is located at Barangay Don Felipe

Larrazabal, Ormoc City, Leyte, Philippines, 1 kilometer from the city center.

It provides three curricula: Science and Technology Classes, Basic Education Curriculum

(BEC), and Special Education (SPEd) for the Hearing Impaired, as well as four (four) programs:

Open High School, Computer Aided Instruction, Applied Academic for Excellence (APEX), and

Night High School.

The school site covers 7.3 hectares and contains various infrastructures. It has a variety of

buildings, including offices, classrooms, a comfort room, the school stage, laboratories, a parking

lot, and other service areas such as a health clinic, a guidance office, and canteens. It also has a

one-of-a-kind Olympic-size swimming pool. It has different classrooms for each class level, each

with a standard size and adequate accommodations for the students. Each classroom has a

blackboard, chairs, a teachers table, and some teachers have their own flat-screen television.

New Ormoc City National High School now has 103 teachers, six non-teaching personnel

in the regular plantilla, eleven Job Order teachers paid by the local government, and eight other

employees paid by the PTA. It has 4,894 students for the 2007-2008 school year.

Emotions/Feelings and "What if" Questions at the School Site

( A Reflection )

I knew that when I arrived at New Ormoc City National High School, I would experience

a variety of emotions and feelings. Because the school grounds are large and spread out, so are

my emotions and feelings. The first feeling I have is excitement because I will begin teaching the

students, and I also feel excitement because I am getting closer to graduation. It was

overwhelming to return to this environment because it is my alma mater; seeing new faces and

experiencing new things is exciting because this is the first step toward facing some challenges.

However, I am nervous because I am constantly asking myself questions.

Before I entered the school, I asked myself, "What if the students didn't like me as their

teacher?" What if I'm not supposed to be here? What if my cooperating teacher dislikes me?

What if I don't make it through this internship? With all of these questions, I became intimidated

and nervous about what would happen next. I was worried about everything that could happen to

me, but because I am a strong woman, I break all the unpleasant emotions and forget about it

because this experience is for me and I am the only one who can face and endure it.

For me, teaching is a very noble profession that shapes a person's character, caliber, and

future. The greatest honor would be if people remembered me as a good teacher. Teachers have

the ability to push students beyond their limits. The school is not only a place where students can

cultivate their own gardens of knowledge, but it is also a place where they can dream and work

hard to achieve their life goals.

If I think of myself as a teacher. Teaching at New Ormoc City National High School is a

fantastic opportunity, but I do not believe I am capable of handling the students at New Ormoc

City National High School for various reasons, including the school's size. I must be adaptable

and accept changes in my environment in order to not only teach them but also make a

difference.
LESSON PLANNING

My Guide in Teaching

(Reflection)

One of the most important things that every teacher should strive for is the ability to

create an effective lesson plan. Making a lesson plan is a teacher's daily guide for what students

should learn, how it will be taught, and how learning will be assessed.
When I first started teaching, I was concerned about lesson planning because it needed to

be encoded and printed, and I didn't have a laptop or a printer; all I had was a cellphone. It made

me realize that teaching is a difficult profession. It is a type of job that requires a lot of patience,

especially when creating lesson plans. I spent a day writing my first lesson plan because I am not

trained to do so and I am still coping some strategies and knowledge on what activities I should

provide to my students so that it will be easy and fun in order to set the mind of my students that

this subject is fun and not boring. I needed to finish it as soon as possible so that I could

demonstrate and teach the following day. Aside from that, my lesson plan should be related to

the material that I am going to teach. I had to go back and forth on just one lesson plan, and I

needed to encode it well because I needed to pass it printed.

As a practice teacher, I had to consider a variety of factors, including not only the lesson

plan but also the instructional materials. Getting used to the new time was exhausting. Despite

my difficulties in creating a lesson plan, I regard it as my guide to lessen the burden of teaching a

topic to a class. It helps me to clear my mind because it will guide me through my discussion.

With the lesson planning and implementation, I've changed the way I teach the students

significantly. Experience is, without a doubt, the best teacher.

Best Lesson Plan
My Best Lesson Plan
and IM’s
My Best Teaching Aid for Having Fun

( Reflection )

It is difficult to impart knowledge to students in an easy way when teaching mathematics.

Because the subject is filled with numbers and problems, students often find it difficult and

boring. That is why it is a challenge for teachers to create meaningful learning experiences for

their students.

During my first week of teaching mathematics to grade 8 students, I discovered that it is

difficult to impart knowledge because not all of my students were interested in learning the

topics in math. My cooperating teacher advised me to make my discussion clear and organized

so that the students can easily grasp the lesson and respond to the activities. That is why I

simplify the topic so that students can understand it and solve the problem easily.

In the introduction to my topic, I illustrated the Side-Angle-Side Congruence Postulate

and the Angle-Side-Angle Congruence Postulate. I make certain that they are never bored while

listening to my discussion because I explained it to them step by step in an easy way, and I also

call out some names for them to answer my question and find the congruent angles and sides of

the two congruent triangles. I am very grateful because I see and hear that their answers are all

correct, which means they understood my discussion. I have a lot of lesson plans, but I chose this

one because I could see that my students were learning in a unique and enjoyable way. The

smiles, laughter, and quiz results they gave me after the discussion made me feel like I had

broken down the big barrier that existed between math lessons and my students.I

I learned that we can gain knowledge from our students as well as learn from them. Not

only will our students have fun during our discussion, but so will we.

Relationship that is both Give and Take

( Reflection )

A teacher can also act as a student's second parent, guiding them in developing their

strengths and weaknesses. To assess students' learning, the teacher must conduct an assessment

that measures the students' ability and capabilities and serves as the foundation for the students'

learning progress. The work of the students is directly proportional to the teacher's teaching

style.

It was heartwarming to see my students' reactions during my almost 10-week internship

at New Ormoc City National High School. I struggled a lot in imparting my knowledge to my

students because I was a signed in grade 8 BEC. To meet their level of competency, I devised a

new teaching style and approach. I'm having trouble getting them to understand the lesson if I

can't make it easier and easier because of students in today's generation are so slow. When I give

them a test, only half of the class passes, and as a teacher, I don't want to see such responses.

After three weeks, I was able to see for myself the scores that I desired, wherein they passed the

quizzes and some of them received perfect scores.

Regardless, I learned to be patient and understanding with them. Every time I give them a

quiz, I am grateful that they give it their all. And, as a teacher, it's gratifying to see that they now

value math learning. A relationship in which both parties contribute. Reading all of the

comments about my teaching style and others, I am grateful to know that my effort in teaching

them in an easy way has paid off because they have learned from me and they can gradually love

math because math is no longer boring to them. I'm moved by the fact that they regard me as
their second teacher. I can't express how happy I am and how grateful I am for making me feel

this way. I will cherish all of the memories we made inside the classroom for the rest of my life.

Teaching is about imparting knowledge at the students' level, not your level. I believe

that the work and feedback of your students reflect the type of teacher you are. Accepting

feedback from students should motivate the teacher to improve.

Evaluation and
Observation Forms
( Sample of Evaluation and
Observation Forms )
Identifying my Own Strengths and Weaknesses

(Reflection)

A supervisor-supplied evaluation form is a tool for assessing an individual's overall

performance. It includes all aspects of a person, particularly student teachers, such as his or her

ability and capacity to meet teaching objectives. It will also identify the student teacher's

strengths and weaknesses, which will aid in the improvement of his or her teaching style.

The evaluation form was a valuable tool in my field for my practice because it provided a

foundation for determining which areas of teaching I needed to improve because it provided

feedback on my teaching strengths and weaknesses. As a pre-service teacher, I appreciated the

positive and negative comments about my questioning skills, classroom management, subject

matter knowledge, personality, modulated voice, teaching methods, and lesson planning.

According to my cooperating teacher, one of my weaknesses is that I have a low voice on

the first day of teaching the students. When I first begin teaching, I am aware that one of my

weaknesses is my low voice. That was the time when I was adjusting because it was the first day
I started teaching, but in the days and weeks that followed, I overcame my weaknesses. My

teaching strength is also highlighted in the evaluation form written by my cooperating teacher.

Using this tool, I could say that in order to handle the class well, I need to work on my

weaknesses while also working on my strengths. I learned that we must accept our flaws and

learn from them in order to improve. On the other hand, we must not leave our strengths alone;

we must constantly improve them. Learning is truly an ongoing process.

EXPERIENCES
( JOURNAL )
Journal 1

My first week as a practice teacher. I arrive on time at our designated school. We pre-

service teachers are required to attend the orientation on our first day as a practice teacher

because the orientation is important because we will learn about the MOA and the format of the

DepED lesson plan that we will use as our daily lesson plan.

Following the orientation, we are assigned to a cooperating teacher. After being assigned,

we proceed to our respective cooperating teacher. And I've assigned Ma'am Villafee Tude as the

grade eight diversity adviser. On my first day in the field, I asked Ma'am Tude what I should do

as an intern teacher. Ma'am Tude allowed me to observe in her class this week only because it is

stated in the MOA, and I will begin my teaching practice the following week.

During my pre-service teacher observation week. As I've observed during my

cooperating teacher's class, the majority of the students are not paying attention to the discussion.

There are students who are talking, and others who are playing and out of nowhere to what my
cooperating teacher is teaching. I can only count on one hand the number of students who are

listening to the discussion of my cooperating teacher.

So, as an intern, I'm considering the most effective way to teach my students during this

week of observation. I'm brainstorming some retention strategies so that by next week, I'll be

ready to teach them listening skills and knowledge.

Reflection

I was greeted with a warm "Good morning, Ma'am" as I walked into the classroom for

my first day of observations. In fact, when I followed my cooperating teacher to her next class, I

was greeted the same way each time I entered the new classroom. My cooperating teacher was

always eager to help me, be the best future educator I could be, even if some of her students were

not listening to her discussion. I gained helpful information by spending time in various

classrooms and observing various types of students' attitudes, which I will take with me into my

student teaching and future classrooms.

I finally understand why flexibility is so important, owing to the fact that every class I've

observed was distinct from the others. Some students in the class were hiding because they

understood the material better, while others appeared out of nowhere, were playing while talking,

or were simply uninterested. As I discussed the issues with my cooperating teacher, she shared
with me some important aspects of flexible teaching, such as good lesson planning and effective

classroom management.

Through all of the examples and attitudes of students that I witnessed in various

classrooms, I have learned that it is critical to promote self-esteem and confidence in students

and influence their appreciation and enjoyment of learning and living. It is critical to motivate

students to do great things that will lead to their success. Most importantly, I recognize the

importance of teaching students the value of discipline and perseverance.

Journal 2

I'm in my second week as a practice teacher at New Ormoc City National High School. I

arrived at school early to prepare for my lesson, which is a math lesson. I organize the materials I

intend to use from a discussion. Every week, I only teach two days and handle five sections per

day because, according to the MOA, we pre-service teachers are required to teach 10 hours per

week, so my cooperating teacher suggested that I teach only Monday and Tuesday and cover the

10 hours by teaching five sections per day, which is five hours times two days, a total of ten

hours.

I'm starting my teaching practice this week. During my first week of teaching, I am very

nervous because of some circumstances that make me worry that my students will not understand
my discussions. But after discussing, I didn't expect to handle them very well, but before I begin

my discussion, I'm establishing some classroom rules so that they will respect me and listen to

me as their practice teacher for the subject mathematics. I am very overwhelmed because I can

see that they are very interested in my discussion, and my eight conservation students make an

effort to cooperate by answering my questions during the discussion.

In this case, I am in my second week, but also in my first week of teaching practice, as I

began teaching this week. There are also students and other sections who sleep during my class,

but as their practice teacher, I do my best to handle those students by calling their names and

asking them to answer my questions. Most of my students are obstinate, but I manage them well.

So far, this week has been a very interesting week because I am eager to see if my

students will listen to and respect me during the upcoming discussion of my teaching practice.

Reflection

When I entered the classroom for the first time to teach the students. I had absolutely no

idea what to expect. I'm nervous because I have a negative thought in my head that my students

will not listen to what I'm teaching them. I don't have a lot of experience giving presentations in

front of a classroom. But I've kept the aspects that were given to me by my cooperating teacher,

the use of good lesson planning because that is very important to do, and I feel comfortable

thinking that I prepared all of this, so now is the time to share my knowledge and show them

how to make the topic I'll be discussing with the students easier to understand.
This week, I'm preparing to provide students with learning opportunities to meet

curriculum outcomes. I can tell that I delivered my lesson well because some of the students in

the other section seem to be interested in what I'm saying, though there are still some who aren't.

I am developing strong relationships with my students and encouraging them to be interested in

learning because their knowledge will benefit them in the future.

Classroom management is one of the most difficult challenges I will face, especially at

the start of my first week teaching practice. I understand that classroom management skills

typically improve with experience, and I can connect with the students and keep them focused on

the lessons while they are unaware that I am implementing fewer discipline problems. I also

recognize that each teacher is unique, with their own personality, behaviors, and teaching style.

But, after a week of teaching my students, I've realized that most good classroom management

can really help the students in their learning progress because I use some habits to make the

students respect and listen to me, such as establishing rules to handle issues that arise in every

classroom and keeping it fair.

Journal 3

In my third week as a practice teacher, I'm getting a sense of what it's like to be a teacher

and have most things under control. When I am discussing in front of my students, they are

polite and listen to me. I believe this feeling arose from two factors: how I began my day and

how it ends behave.

I am pleased to see that in the other section, there are students who are paying close

attention to me and focusing on my discussion because they have noticed some changes on my

IM's and are curious as to why the given name differs from the name of the illustrations I wrote

in the chart. That means they are paying attention to me and are eager to learn.

Some of my students have told me that I am very good at discussing because they can

quickly catch up on what I've said. Some of my students also tell me that if I am the one teaching

them in front, they really understand the topic because I made math easier or something that they

can understand well and get a perfect score on their quizzes.

So far, this week has been my favorite because my students are giving me the best

performance they deserve to be graded, with the majority of them receiving perfect scores on the

quizzes I gave them.

Reflection

I am so grateful for having this week as my teaching practice because I learned about the

teaching profession and how to become a teacher someday. Now I understand why education is
critical for students' future success. When I see my students giving me oral recitations and paying

close attention to my discussions, I know they are interested in learning the lessons. As their

teacher, I am assisting them by answering all of their questions so that they can understand more

because they can only learn more if they ask questions to the teacher.

There are numerous methods for teaching mathematics. But I create my own strategies by

combining the best aspects of all of them. I should ensure maximum student participation, start

with concrete abstraction, and provide knowledge and understanding levels. This week has made

me feel more at ease because I know that each of my students understands the lesson I teach

them better. Although some students are quiet and not participating, I know they are listening to

my discussion and can answer all of my quizzes.

I realized that teaching is a difficult profession in which you must assist students in

developing themselves and their future. Dealing with students is difficult because teachers must

understand each of their students. Because each learner has unique behaviors that require time,

patience, and understanding.

Journal 4
Right after my class discussion in my fourth week as a practice teacher, they completed

the activity that I assigned to them in relation to my discussion. And since there is still time after

my class, I take advantage of the opportunity to let my students form their initial opinions about

me during my first week as their practice teacher. I’m ecstatic because I heard the phrase “I want

to be their practice teacher permanently.”

As I read through all of the comments and messages about my student’s first impressions

of me. I'm surprised because they thought I was strict with them, but they also said that for the

past day they were all wrong because I am kind and approachable, and most importantly, they

say I am a very nice practice teacher because they really know the lesson if I am the one who

teaches them.

There is one section that is crying because most of them are overjoyed that I came to their

class room as their math practice teacher. I cried because I feel very much appreciated, and I am

so happy to feel that because they are so grateful to have me as a practice teacher. They didn't

know how to solve math until I arrived in their section, but now they do because they said I made

math easier and more fun.

I wasn't expecting to cry their first impression as I breathed in front of them. Even if

those students are sometimes noisy and do not listen, if I begin to look at them without words,

they will be silent and do not make a noise. After that, I'll finish my last lesson because they

deserve to learn, even if they can be noisy at times.

Reflection

I went through everything a professional teacher goes through in my Practice Teaching,

such as creating lesson plans, reviewing all lessons, filling out forms, and dealing with students

of various personalities and abilities. Furthermore, I consider myself fortunate to have had the

assistance and guidance of my cooperating teacher, Ms. Villafee Tude.

Learning how to be a better classroom teacher has been difficult, rewarding, and

energizing. This week has been the most rewarding experience because students gave their initial

impressions of me right after I let them. They are overjoyed because I am their practice teacher,

and they have gained a better understanding of how to solve math problems and answer them

orally since I entered the room as their math practice teacher.

I am very satisfied with their impressions of me because my efforts and teaching them

step by step have been rewarded by their opinions, which can motivate me to do better and be a

more effective practice teacher.

In my remaining weeks of teaching students, I will do my best to encourage my students

to perform better in class, and I should compliment every student's good efforts, such as correct

answers or creative outputs because that what they deserved. This must be done so that they can

continue to demonstrate their good work and inspire their classmates to do the same.
Journal 5

This week, for my teaching practice, I feel like I'm really giving them the best and easiest

way to understand the lesson. Since all of the topics in third quarter have been completed, my

cooperating teacher has assigned me to conduct a review of previous lessons so that the students

can renew the lessons they've learned.

Although some of the students do not recall the topic discussed with my cooperating

teacher, as their practice teacher, I discussed with them what the meaning of some words related

to their exam will be and how they will answer the possible questions they will answer in their

upcoming exam.

I'll give them a review the following day. I go over the first lesson I taught them when I

first arrived at NOCNHS as their practice teacher, and I am glad they remember everything I

taught them and understand how they will answer the possible questions on the upcoming exam.

On my postulates review, most of the students received perfect scores, and I am proud of

myself because I believe I did my best to teach them so that they could understand, and I am

pleased to see the results of my teaching progress.

Reflection

The true sign of progress is learning with each step. Looking at my students, I predict that

they will learn and remember every step or lesson I have taught them. This week was a

whirlwind of activity as students prepared for their upcoming third-quarter exam.

Remembering, rather than memorizing, is more appropriate in my opinion because you

will remember that use that will allow you to describe something in your own words. It is the

same as the students; they should remember all of the topics discussed by my cooperating

teacher, but they have forgotten all of the previous topics. This week, I'll be reviewing previous

topics related to their upcoming exam.

During my discussion of the previous topics, the students are reminded of what those

words mean and how they can respond to them. Following that review, I conduct another review

the following day for some of the topics I've discussed with them regarding SAS, ASA, SSS, and

AAS, which are the congruence postulates. I only review a few topics from the lesson I've

discussed because my cooperating teacher told me that's what the exam would be.

It means a lot to me to know that all of my students remember and understand everything

I teach them. I realize that the effort I put in to my students by allowing them to answer quizzes

as part of the review was rewarded because the exam results were nearly perfect, and I am proud

of myself for making a positive impact on my students that they can benefit from.
