Quarter 1st Quarter
I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of how changes in the environment may
A. Content Standards
affect species extinction.
B. Performance The learner should be able to make a multimedia presentation of a timeline of
Standards extinction of representative microorganisms, plants and animals.
The learner should be able to:
C. Learning Relate specie extinction to the failure of populations of organisms to adapt to
Competencies/ abrupt changes in the environment.
Objectives
(S9LT-Ie-f-30)
a. Understand the concept of biodiversity.
b. Identify threatened, endangered and extinct species.
c. Determine different environmental issues/problems that may result in
the loss of the species.

lesson. Relate specie extinction to the failure of populations of organisms
to adapt to abrupt changes in the environment.
Specific:
a. Understand the concept of biodiversity.
b. Identify threatened, endangered and extinct species.

in species extinction.
C. Presenting Begin the lesson by telling the students to picture themselves swimming

species are found. Ask them, what organism do see? How many different kinds
of organisms do you think you will see?
Then tell the students to imagine themselves standing in a coconut
plantation. Ask them, which specie do you think dominates this area?
Which do you think can withstand abrupt environmental changes?
D. Discussing new TASK: “Think-Pair-Share”
concepts and
practicing new skills
#1. Give five (5) words to describe biodiversity. Choose a pair and present
your answer in a concept map as shown below. Copy the concept map in a
separate paper and answer it. Share your work to your classmates.
BIODIVERSITY
Emphasize to the students that the word BIODIVERSITY originates
from the Greek word BIOS=LIFE and Latin word DIVERSITAS=VARIETY or
DIFFERENCE. The whole word BIO DIVERSITY generally therefore means:
VARIETY OF LIFE.
Points to Ponder
Since the students know already what biodiversity is, the next thing that
they are going to learn is to differentiate threatened, endangered and extinct
species.
Discuss that:
Threatened Species are those species wherein their population begin to decline.
Endangered Species are those wherein their population is so low that it is
nearly extinct. And Extinct Species are those species in which the last member
died. Ask students to give examples of local (Philippine) species for each.
E. Discussing new ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES/ PROBLEMS THAT AFFECTS
concepts and BIODIVERSITY
practicing new skills
#2. Discuss about:
1. deforestation
2. wildlife depletion
3. water pollution
4. air pollution and
5. destruction of coastal resources
Ask students to relate these issues in their respective communities or
nearby places. Recognize that some students can better express their thoughts in
their own dialect.
F. Developing mastery A video on “What on Earth is Biodiversity?” will be played to let the
(Leads to formative students discover and explore the importance of biodiversity.
Assessment 3)
TASK: “Slogan Making” - Triad
With your group, create a slogan about protecting biodiversity to save
species from extinction.
G. Finding practical Group the students into 5 consisting of 9-10 members. Let them identify
applications of situations in the locality that affect biodiversity and how the people address the
concepts and skills in said issues. Groups have the option to present their answer/output in a form of
daily living. role play, dance, song, fast talk (interview), or report.
H. Making Give the advantages and disadvantages of the effects of human actions to the
generalizations and preservation of biodiversity using a table.
abstractions about the
lesson.
I. Evaluating learning. INDIVIDUAL TASK: Provide a 10-item quiz.
I. Analyze the terms that are being described or defined. Then fill in the missing
letters in each set to complete the word.
II. Matching Type. Match column A with column B.
J. Additional activities Assignment (Performance Task Per Group)
for application or
remediation. Make a multimedia presentation of a timeline of extinction of representative
microorganisms, plants and animals.
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who
earned 80% in the
evaluation.
B. No. of learners who
require additional
activities for
remediation.
C. Did the remedial
lessons work? No. of
learners who have
caught up the
lesson.
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation.
E. Which of my
