Kid Austin Fights To Stay Undefeated Against Big Boy – Lucia Rizza
Undefeated Floyd Schofield “Kid Austin” will fight Francisco Daniel Rosas Reyes “Bad
Boy” in the boxing super featherweight division on the 20th of October at 9.00 pm E.T in
Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio. It is the last boxing event that will be held here this year, it
will be an eight-round match for Schofield’s first headline of his significant card as a
professional.
Schofield at the young age of 20, has recently signed a full instead of just a co-deal with
Golden Boy Promotions which has promoted some of the biggest boxing stars, including
Floyd Mayweather. Schofield was signed after his knockout victory against Rodrigo Guerrero
in August. Schofield’s professional boxing record now stands at (11-0-0) in wins, draws and
losses. Schofield goes head-to-head with a previous world title challenger, Rosas aged 33,
with a professional record of (22-1-5) in wins, draws and losses. Schofield has won 3 fights
out of 3 this year, Rosas on the other hand is attempting to bounce back from his last fight in
2021 against Lamont Roach where he lost by knockout.
Schofield is no stranger to fighting hard, he and his dad Floyd Sr were homeless for 3
years before his boxing career kicked off, and his dad would have to go days without having
food. Their only escape was the gym which is where Schofield found his passion for boxing.
His dad who is also his coach has worked hard with him by training 3 times a day for 11
years, to become this promising lightweight prospect who spars with world champions like
Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson. Schofield’s battles in life have prepared him for
moments like these, he talks about the preparation and expectations for the fight as he says,
“I’ve trained super hard this is one of my hardest camps, I'm ready to knock him out.” With
Schofield’s record of having 81% of his wins by KO, he explains that “this camp we've been
working towards a knockout, and we will.”
Schofield’s records and stats may suggest that he is oozing with confidence, but nerves
will be rife in this fight. It is his first fight having been fully signed by Golden Boy
Promotions and he is only in his second year of professional boxing. Therefore, he has not
built up that much experience yet. Before signing his promotion deal, he used to sell out
arenas which had about 2000 seats, whereas at the Fantasy Springs Casino the event is only
200 short of a full sell-out, meaning that there will be 3500 people seated. That’s 1500 more
eyes of pressure watching his every move. Despite Schofield’s potential façade of saying “It
is going to be an amazing fight; somebody is going to sleep, and it is not me.” He reluctantly
adds that because it is such a big opportunity as it is potentially career-changing Schofield is
“anxious right now.” This is understandable considering the amount of pressure he puts
himself under, but will it be his downfall? Or will he rise despite this and fulfil his potential
by continuing his success after this fight by going on to bring the first world title back to
Austin, Texas in 13 years?
