Task 1 – Part 1

What do you want to achieve over the final 8 weeks on the

Foundation Programme?

Please respond to the questions below as a starting point. This

document is a Prop/Prompt for you and your developed answers
should be loaded as a scribd document in an appropriate position
on your Weebly site. You will update this proposal as you move
through the project, do not delete initial statements, add a date
each time you add a new statement to a particular section.

The final document should be loaded to your Weebly by the 6th of

May.

Question 1
Reflect on your work you've created so far and consider on how your use of materials,
tools, techniques and processes reflect the broader ideas and message that you are interested to
convey.

What materials, tools, techniques and processes have you used and how can you employ a broader
range of materials and techniques to explore your theme in Module 3?

So far I have mainly explored the medium of film throughout the course when giving the
choice and would now would like to pursue techniques that I initially desired to explore
when applying for this course like drawing and painting. I feel like aspects from the film
work I have done previously has unintentionally fuelled my desire to explore my theme
and that I believe a more physical based media is best to convey it.

Question 2
Reflect upon the audience and method of dissemination for your work.

What does it communicate and who is it communicating to? What does it offer to the
viewer/customer/client and their lifestyle? Where will the work be situated? How can you market
your work?

I want my work to communicate a visual response to multiple mental health issues more
specifically ones I resonate with and for my final piece in particular being body
dysmorphia. The chief party I would like is to communicate to are people who suffer from
the same or similar things and the main aspect I would like my work to offer people is a
visual glimpse into myself and my psyche and hopefully themselves as well. I would
preferably like my work situated within a gallery upon walls either solitary or chaotically
strung amongst one another to almost resemble incoherent scribbles.
Question 3
We make, design, and produce work to be shared, and to elicit a reaction or provoke a response.

What response would you like to provoke in your Audience/Client/Viewer/User? Are you the kind of
designer/artist/producer who aims to disrupt - to entertain or to question? Is your work ironic,
playful, educational or political? Use this space to think about the response of your target audience
on viewing your work - how do you want them to react? What is an ideal response?

The response I often like to elicited from my work is one of disgust, shock or unease and
that is definitely no different here with what I want to derive from my visual style but
given the theme I am exploring I also want to provoke some introspection within the
viewer. I would definitely say that the goal with this piece is to both disrupt and question.

Task 1 – Part 1

What is your Project Concept?

In previous projects, we have focused on outcomes or objects, for this module we

are expecting you to design an investigation and for this to lead to an appropriate
outcome/object which embraces your specialism and matches your burgeoning
ambition.
Please outline the project themes - and the ideas that you wish to explore. Focus on the meaning
behind the work rather than processes, materials or skills. (There is a space for this information
further on in the document) This is a short module - so it is critical that you make a swift decision
and commit to an investigation early. We know that this is hard - but push yourself and work to
get to the making, design and production stage with confidence.

The themes of this project that I would like to explore are that of mental issues that I
resonate with, with a specific focus on body dysmorphia. A big factor for me wanting to
explore these ideas through my art is because this to a certain extend acts as an outlet for
me.

Please give an overview of the project here.

What will your work look like? What technologies/tools/equipment/processes will you use?

My work will consist of 2D physical elements such as drawing via graphite and chalk, and
painting via acrylic and oil. As for what my work will look I am aiming to create pieces
that show distorted, surreal and horrific views of the human body.
What skills will you need to develop in order to complete the work?
What will you need to learn? What existing strengths do you have that can help you to succeed?

I am going to have to strengthen my ability to convey the human body and especially
emotions upon faces. Another aspect of developing I will need to undertake is the use of oil
paints which is a somewhat new technique for me. I will however be able to rely on my
drawing ability and my ability with the use of acrylic.

What will you do to sustain your practice and to develop your motivation,
understanding and confidence?
This focus of this question is your research practice - what has already inspired, informed and
influenced you? How can you push yourself beyond your comfort zone here?

Two big factors of inspiration so far are the art of an artist called Jon Silent and the art by
Aleksander Rostov depicting skills from the game Disco Elysium, the skills themselves
representing the protagonists physical abilities and thoughts. One way I would like to push
myself forward is by visiting galleries and museums with specific interest in viewing
portraits both for composition and understand of the human body and form.

Task 1 – Part 2

This is a short module - and scheduling your activity and planning out your production arc will
help to ensure that you keep the project on track, with time to make a quality artefact for the
exhibition. The best project concept in the world will not lead to a successful outcome without
good, pragmatic planning. Remember, gathering or "procuring" materials will take time - and
supplier availability and high costs will slow you down and impact on your ability to make work.
You must factor this into your schedule. A prohibitively high cost on a particular material or item
may prompt you to investigate a more easily sourced and cheaper alternative, which can
improve your carbon footprint - and improve the "sustainability" of the project.

Resources, Services and Tools - What will I need and what steps
must be taken to ensure access and availability?
What do you think you will need to complete the project? How can you begin to negotiate access
and co-ordinate your making with availability?

Resource - Service or Tool How do I access/acquire What additional understanding,

(Add to the list as you this? expenditure or skill do I need to
progress) exploit this resource well?

Sustainability
Use this page to identify aspects of your project relating to sustainability, unnecessary waste,
and environmental concerns. What might you do to manage this and reduce your impact? If you
can’t manage it directly, could you take action to offset your carbon footprint? How will you plan
for the end of life of your object/s, how will you remove it from the studio at the end of the
exhibition and how will you recycle and dispose of it? What is the recycling / disposal protocol for
the materials you are using? How is this affected once you combine materials together?

Most of the materials that I will be using are things that I already own. My work and final
piece will be able to be carried out from the studio and will be stored within my home.

Task 1 – Part 2

Project Budget
Please list below any cost or expenditure associated with your project. The aim here is to identify
the actual cost of the work you have made, rather than the projected cost of a proposed
outcome. You do not need to list those materials that are freely available in the studios
(paper/pencils/acrylic paint etc) but do include more specific materials such as fabric, wood,
superglue, neoprene etc. You can add to this list as you progress through the project.

The Exhibition and planning for it is a key part of this module and must be considered alongside your
own emerging project. What are you going to exhibit? How should it be presented? How have other
creatives presented similar work? Research is key to help you to identify formats, conventions, and
approaches to sharing your outcome.

My planned outcome is best described as...

(Think about how the work will be created rather than how it will be shared or exhibited)

Traditional 2D (Drawing, Painting, Collage using real Yes No Not sure

tools/surfaces/materials) (Maybe)
Digital 2D - (Images produced using digital tools such as No

What will need to be in place in order for you to complete your final
piece and to achieve your ambition and aims?

Most of what I require is readily available and already acquired

the thing I most need is the space in which to display my
outcome with that simply being a wall.
Project Planning and Scheduling
You cannot pass this module without completing a schedule. You must complete a realistic
project schedule in order to pass the module. An additional and more detailed day by day
schedule on your website will enhance your submission, but you must complete this one first.

What are the Health and Safety risks associated with my

chosen pipeline, workflow or exhibition method?
You must pick at least three and go on to explain the steps that you will take to ensure your
own safety and that of the people around you while working on the project. Evidence that
you have researched how this is managed in the creative industries AND applied it to your
own situation will enhance your submission.

Please note that while some substances may not be toxic or harmful, they may still have an
adverse impact on your peers. You will need to discuss any materials not already in regular
use in the studio with your tutor.
