1. This delicacy is created from severely battered and deep-fried sliced calves’ or pigs’
brains. It has origins in Germany and Holland and is highly calorie-dense. These
sandwiches are generally served with mustard and pickled onions. The batter provides
the majority of the taste in the sandwich, while the brains have a custardy texture.

2. This dish is actually made up of ant larvae. Often called insect caviar, these are a
delicacy in Mexico, and were eaten by the Aztecs. Eggs are harvested from plants, and
the tiny larvae can be eaten in tacos, omelets or just on their own. Fried with butter to
be crispy, they have a slightly nutty taste.

3. These treats are deep-fried in garlic oil until the outside is crunchy and the interior is
mushy. The custom of eating these spiders, usually of the tarantula species, may have
begun under the harsh rule of the Khmer Rouge, when underprivileged villages were
forced to find alternative sources of food. To give them a kick, they are frequently eaten
with hot sauce!

4. This dish is considered Scotland's national dish, and it consists of sheep's heart, liver,
and lungs, onion, oatmeal, spices, and stock. This hearty dish, which was traditionally
stuffed into the stomach of a sheep and simmered, dates back to the 1400s. It is
typically served with mashed potatoes and turnips, as well as a dram of Scotch whiskey
to wash it all down.

5. This is a Greenland shark that has been allowed to ferment and decay—if the shark is
fresh, it is poisonous and cannot be eaten. It is advised that beginners chase the fish
down with a shot of local spirit because it is notorious for its potent ammonia smell and
fishy flavor.
