Art by Mark Campbell …. Thank you Mark.

This is the third edition of the Ukulele Christmas Tunes book. The first had just
over 30 tunes, the second just over 40, and this, my last edition … has over 50
Christmas tunes. I’ve expanded the tunes from Christmas carols only, to any song
that might be played around the Gentry home at Christmas time.
I hope, also, you enjoy the artwork in this book. Instead of using art I found on the
internet, the pictures in this book are from some of my artist friends who are also
musicians. I asked them to send me a picture, not necessarily pertaining to ukulele,
but one that conveyed a personal meaning of Christmas. Each time I turn the page
to a friend’s picture, I will think of them. Sort of an on-going Christmas card.
The artists who contributed art in alphabetical order are: Gary Brookings, Mark
Campbell,Fred Hedgecoth (front cover book title art), Patricia Keeler, and to Jesse
Wills (front and back cover). Jesse’s art is inspiring and for me, captures the spirit
of Christmas. Thank you all for contributions.
The Christmas Santa and the Bubble Lights photos are pictures of my favorite
Christmas tree decorations as a kid. The above picture of Karen and me is from
our 2017 family “Tacky Christmas Sweater” contest.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

How’d ya like to spend Christmas … on Christmas Is land

How’d ya like to spend the holiday… away across the sea

How’d ya like to spend Christmas … on Christmas Is land

How’d ya like to hang a stocking on a great big coconut tree

How’d ya like to stay up late … like the islanders do

Wait for Santa to sail in with your presents… in a canoe

If ya ever spend Christmas … on Christmas Is land

You will never stray, for everyday… your Christmas dreams come true

On Christmas Island … your Christmas dreams come true

Frosty The Snowman 11

Frosty the snowman … was a jolly, happy soul

With a corncob pipe and a button nose… and two eyes made out of coal

Frosty the snowman… is a fairy tale they say

He was made of snow but the children know, how he came to life one day

There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found

For when they placed it on his head… he began to dance around

Oh, Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be

And the children say he could dance and play

Just the same as you and me

Frosty The Snowman 11

Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day

So, he said “lets run … we’ll have some fun now… before I melt away

Down in the village with a broomstick in his hand

Running here and there all around the square saying “catch me if you can”

He lead them down the streets of town right to a traffic cop

And he only paused one moment, when he heard him holler “stop”

Oh, Frosty the Snowman… had to hurry on his way

But he waved goodbye … saying “don’t you cry

I’ll be back again someday”

Gramma Got Runover By A Reindeer 15
Chorus

Gramma got run over by a reindeer

Walking home from our house Christmas Eve

You can say there’s no such thing as Santa

But as for me and gram pa… we believe

She'd been drinking too much eggnog…and we warned her not to go

But she forgot her medication and she staggered out the door into the snow

When we found her Christmas morning … at the scene of the attack

There were hoof prints on her forehead

And incriminating claw marks on her back

Hot Buttered Rum 18
written by Tommy Thompson

When the chimney smoke hangs still and low

Across the stumbled fields of snow…and angry skies reach down and seize

The sorry blackened bones of trees

In the dead of winter when the silent snowbirds come

You’re my sweet maple sugar, honey … hot buttered rum

When dreary Christmas decorations (G) line the streets and filling stations
And (D) dime-store Santas can’t disguise their (A) empty hands and empty eyes
In the (D) dead of winter when the (G) tinsel angels come
You’re my (D) sweet maple sugar, honey…(A) hot buttered (D) rum

When burning embers in the dark bring (G) cold comfort to the heart
And (D) bitter memories freeze the tongue and (A) songs of love are left unsung
(D) In the dead of winter when the (G) cold feelings come
You’re my (D) sweet maple sugar, honey… (A) hot buttered (D) rum

When friends and family gather round to (G) watch the snowflakes drifting down
And (D) kitchen-table tales are told of (A) days when we weren’t quite so old
(D) In the dead of winter when those (G) old memories come
You’re my (D) sweet maple sugar, honey …(A) hot buttered (D) rum

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear 24
Edmund Hamilton Sears, 1849

It came upon a midnight clear … that glorious song of old

From angels bending near the earth … to touch their harps of gold

Peace on the earth … goodwill to men… from Heaven’s all-gracious King

The world in solemn stillness lay … to hear the angels sing

Still through the cloven skies they come … with peaceful wings unfurled

And still their Heavenly music floats … o’er all the weary world

Above it’s sad and lowly plains … they bend on hovering wing

And ever o’er it’s Babel sounds …the blessed angels sing

Let It Snow 29

Oh … the weather outside is frightful … but the fire is so delightful

And since we’ve no place to go … let it snow … let it snow … let it snow

It doesn’t show signs of stopping … and I brought some corn for popping

The lights are turned way down low…let it snow, let it snow…let it snow

When we finally kiss goodnight … how I’ll hate going out in the storm

But if you really hold me tight … all the way home I’ll be warm

The fire is slowly dying … and my dear we’re still good-byeing

But as long as you love me so … let it snow … let it snow … let it snow
Little Town Of Bethlehem 30

O little town of Bethlehem … how still we see thee lie

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep … the silent stars go by

Yet, in thy dark street shineth … the ever-lasting light

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight

For Christ is born of Mary … and gathered all above

While mortals sleep and angels keep … their watch of wond’ring love

O morning stars to gether … proclaim the holy birth

And praises sing to God the King … and … peace to men on earth

Rudolf The Red Nose Reindeer 40
In the 1823 poem by Clement C. Moore "A Visit from St. Nicholas" ("The Night Before Christmas"), Santa
Claus's sleigh is led by eight reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen.
Rudolph was a 20th-century addition. The names of Donder and Blitzen derive from Germanic words for
thunder and lightning, respectively.

Rudolf the red nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose

And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows

All of the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Rudolph, join in any reindeer games

Then one foggy Christmas eve, Santa came to say

Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight

Then all the reindeer loved him, and the shouted out with glee

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in histo..ry

Winter Wonder Land 55
Intro: 2nd Line

Sleigh-bells ring … are you list’nin … in the lane … snow is glist’nin,

A beautiful sight … we’re happy to-night… walkin’ in a winter wonder-land

Gone a-way is the bluebird… here to stay is a new bird

He sings a love song … as we go a-long … walkin’ in a winter wonder-land

In the meadow we can build a snowman … then pretend that he is Parson Brown

He’ll say … “Are you married?” … we’ll say “No, man”

But you can do the job when you’re in town

Later on … we’ll conspire … as we dream by the fire

To face una-fraid … the plans that we made … walkin’ in a winter wonderland

Outro:

Walkin' ... in a winter... wonderland yeah
