COMMUNICATION FOR WORK PURPOSES

INTRODUCTION
Academic writing could be considered as a complex process. It involves many skills and
sometimes the writer feels it as the most difficult to master. It is also believed that it takes a long
time to practice and more so it takes years in order to be perfect. Thus, a writer needs a lot of
preparation. Therefore, following the necessary steps is very important so that you will be able to
merge and organize ideas having a central argument that allows the paper to be cohesive and
direct to the point. (Bauman,2013). Basically, if we talk about academic paper, in the context of
learning and teaching paradigm, the research paper that you submit to your professor is actually
an academic paper.

assignment. Does it only matter when you get caught? Is there academic integrity if you

questions can be clarified as you go along on this lesson.

DISCUSSION:
Academic work should be clearly and accurately referenced. As explained by Alison Kirk
(1999) it is a moral code or ethical policy of the academe that includes values such as
avoidance of cheating or plagiarism, maintenance of academic standards, and honesty in
doing research. If you have some work to submit, do it by yourself through your own
hard work and effort, just make sure to referenced your work properly. Therefore,
academic integrity is acting with honesty, truthfulness, and respect of the works of others.
There are some things that we should remember in order to maintain academic integrity;
If you break any of these rules there are some consequences that one could suffer such as
written reprimand, reduction of grades, remedial sanctions, failure of the course and
suspension.
In addition, ideas are non-tangible things but it can be stolen. It is considered an
intellectual property hence they are protected by copyright laws.
